To say this was a surprise is quite an understatement. Illinois' MMJ law was signed by previous Governor, Democrat Pat Quinn. It was a pilot program to expire at the end of 2017 unless renewed. In his first year in office, Republican Governor Bruce Rauner made it clear he would not have signed the MMJ bill into law and as Governor, he would not add any eligible conditions and would veto any extension of the 4 year pilot program.
In a sudden about face, Rauner will now approve extending Illinois' MMJ program to 2020 and will allow additional eligible conditions to be added to the approved list.
