NFC FC and NewFC Merge FAQ

Hello and welcome to the first decennial FC merge frequently asked questions thread!

Q: What are FC and NewFC?
A: FC is short for https://fuckcombustion.com. NewFC is short for https://newfuckcombustion.com.

Q: Why was New FC created?
A: As has been discussed elsewhere on the site, there were concerns that FC was going to disappear. @pakalolo and I made an effort to ensure that the FC community would have a lifeboat (NewFC) in case of disaster.

Q: What has happened since then?
A: The FC ship is back on course with the leaks repaired and a new coat of paint. Also contingency plans have now been put in place to ensure that it won't head adrift in the future.

Q: What will happen with the two sites now?
A: After considerable thought and discussion, select content from NewFC will be merged into FC.

Q: What does "select content" mean?
A: Such a merge has its share of complications and there is no perfect solution. After weighing the options we have decided to import only the threads and attachments from NewFC into FC. User accounts and private conversation will not be transferred over.

Q: Why not import the user accounts?
A: The majority of the ~1500 registered users on NewFC already have accounts on FC. Importing them would mean ~1500 duplicate accounts which isn't feasible to deal with. The problems would outweigh the benefits.

Q: What will happen to my posts on NewFC?
A: Threads and posts from NewFC will be imported and merged into FC. Imported posts will display the author's NewFC username, however they will not be linked to an account.

Q: What about my post count and likes and private conversations from NewFC?
A: Because we aren't importing user accounts --as discussed above-- post counts, likes, and private conversations from NewFC will not be carried over to FC. You will retain your original post count, likes, private conversations, trophies, etc. that you already have under an FC account.

Q: How will imported threads from NewFC with an equivalent thread on FC be handled?
A: For the most part they will be merged together. The Vape XYZ thread from NewFC will be merged together with the Vape XYZ thread on FC. This needs to be done manually for a few hundred threads and will take some time. After the merge, threads that had been strategically locked on FC will be re-opened for posting. When a matching thread is eventually merged, the mixed posts should end up in chronological order.

Q: What do I need to do?
A: If you already have an account on FC you're all set. If not you're welcome to create one. You may want to look over any meaningful information in your NewFC account that won't be transferred.

Q: When will the merge happen and what should I expect?
A: On Friday June 26 both sites will be temporarily closed for posting and will experience downtime while the merge takes place. If all goes well it should take a couple of hours or so. If there are problems it is probably Pak's fault.

Q: What will happen to NewFC?
A: After the merge NewFC will remain accessible, but closed to new posts.

Thank you all for your patience while we work through this transition as best we can.

:peace:

To the mods: Kudos for the work, help, devotion, blah blah blah... I have no idea what exactly is involved in creating or maintaining a forum thingy.

That's why you guys get paid the big bucks! (wish that was true).

Question: we're supposed to do our thing HERE then after Friday stop here and go BACK to the old site?

There's no tone or sarcasm I'm genuinely confused.

Well that works. No complaints. I guess you’ll be unlocking the threads that have been closed on FC?

Also, cultivation, we done with that?

I don't think we have heard the final word on Cultivation or Classifieds, but I DO see that Imgur is back on FC...

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
Thanks mods! I am ready to head back to the mother ship on Friday.

I do hope cultivation stays.

Yep! If your posting in a closed FC thread between now & the merge, you have to post here. But if I were starting a brand new thread, I'd post it over there.

[/QUOTE]@Stu, as I understand your comment:

Although the threads will be closed to new comments, will we still be able to log into our accounts on here?

How long is NewFC going to remain up?

Most/all of your posts should be transferred over, they just won’t be linked to an account. It’s not a perfect solution, but for most of us it’s better than a lot of alternatives. You do have time to copy down any info you have in your account here and make an account on the main FC so hopefully it’s not more than a small inconvenience and things should be smooth from the merge on out. :)

I imagine this has been beaten to death but I think it is regrettable that we haven't taken this opportunity to improve the site name. It's unfortunate that the most mature and knowledgeable cannabis vaping site has the most childish name. I've tried recommending this site to non-vapers but can see them lose interest as soon as they hear the address. Reddit's r\vaporents is overwhelmed by inexperienced and uninformed teens and VLF is gone.

Yep. As I see it, the only feature effected is the search feature as it won't include the NewFC posts in the results, but all your posts will appear in FC thread; & everyone knows your handle. Gotta give up something for a better FC future. A small price to pay IMO.

The site will still be the same, the info the same, the people the same, the threads full of the same stuff. All it takes is making an account on old FC, waiting till Saturday and carry on posting as normal.

Is this why my suggestion of changing the site name to poopoobumholecombustion.com has always been rejected?

Very much so. Or very little so. Whichever is in agreement with you about the tiny size of the price.

It makes sense, and could be my own fault for not finding out if this was shared before. However, being brand new to fc with NewFC and having started some active threads that brought and encouraged other community members to join up as new members (like me) .. only to have it closed a month or two later... is what it is.

@Badbee, I wish it wasn't so, as I so enjoyed it as a word to make an emphatic statement. But, as I see it, Fuck is indelibly ingrained in our vernacular & it isn't going away. In the way I see ... 👂.. it, it's pervasive - it's part of the norm. I never feel uncomfortable about telling anyone about FC. I'm proud of it ... err, ... her. ;) But, I will say, that I'm diplomatic when I recommend the site so as to reduce any stigma to those who might not be comfortable. I say it with a polite, aristocratic & light-hearted pronunciation.

@DocAnchovy, you'll be OK with it, you'll see. :leaf:

For me, as far as likes are concerned, it wouldn't matter to me if I had negative likes. I post whenever I feel like it, regardless of the likeability of what I'm posting.

And now, there are reactions that don't add to your likes. So the value of the like count is taken down a notch. @EmDeemo's post are witty, so, he loses out on likes cause I choose :ROFLMAO: at times. Sorry EmD. :D

Don’t care about likes. The things I’ve been working on are diy related so having the posts follow the user tag and those discussions is worthwhile. Instagram reigns supreme for keeping a virtual log of these things... plus.. the insta models :myday:

Don’t care about likes.

But some peeps do.

DocA, took a look at your posts & the threads you are heavily involved in. Those posts are gonna be transferred over so your post investment is still gonna stand the test of time - they'll be read by those new to those threads who are reading through it.

As I said, the one & only real sacrifice seems to be the Search feature. So, when a question comes up that you already posted about on NewFC, you can find that post on FC & answer that question by linking back to it. Better still, quote or copy & paste your previous post so that, going forward, it will show up in the search results.
