EVO, Mighty, Plenty, or easy valve?

I've been thinking about getting something new. I had been kinda planning to get an easy valve (for a change-up from the solid valve), but I have since found myself thinking about the other vapes I've listed in the thread title.

Some things to consider:
  • I'm very neurologically clumsy. I drop just about everything. Which makes vapes with important/expensive glass parts (like the EVO) somewhat risky.
  • My weakness makes it difficult for me to use desktop vapes that need to be lifted (to the mouth).
  • I will likely never actually need a portable.
  • A true change-up might require getting a non-S&B vape. Purchasing a Mighty or Plenty would make two in a row from S&B.
  • I've been jonesing for a direct draw/whip style vape known for producing great flavor.
I feel like EVO is what I really want right now, but it is much more easily breakable than the others I've mentioned here. Plus it's a big investment. So for now I'd love to hear what people have to say.

Anyone know how frequently EVO factory seconds become available? That would probably be the best option for me, and I feel like I'm in no hurry to go through with my next purchase.

I vote you consider a 7th Floor DBV or SSV vaporizer and buy a LONG ass whip for it so you can easily use whenever.

I think the 7th Floor whip vape would give you a good switch-up from your current vaping experience yet still easy to use and portable. Yes there is some glass bits, but those are easy and cheap to replace.

Note you can buy sometimes cosmetic seconds from 7th floor's website directly - these are extremely fair priced and there's really nothing wrong with the vape (I never noticed any flaws in the cosmetic seconds I've seen).

Thanks for your input.

I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but 7th Floor is a great example of what doesn't work for me. I actually had a factory second SSV and an extra 10 feet of tubing. It was one of four vapes seized from me during an illegal search of my home just over a year ago. It's the only one I don't miss. One reason why the SSV didn't work for me is that it's hard for me to hold a wand up in the air at a very specific location. Plus I sometimes make uncontrollable jerky movements.

Due to my poor history keeping important glass vape parts in one piece, I asked Vapexhale if they ever offer factory-second EVO units, then explained why I asked. Sounds like the answer is no. The EVO is likely where I'd be leaning if it just wasn't such a risky purchase for me; definitely if there was a possibility of buying a marked-down factory second. However, I've probably now ruled out the EVO. The Aromed already taught me a valuable lesson about buying vapes with important glass parts.

So it's probably down to Plenty vs. Mighty. An easy valve system wouldn't be enough of the change-up I feel like I could use right about now.

EDIT: I see the Plenty costs $100 less than the Mighty. That could mean good things for the Plenty.

Your second point in OP I think points toward the Mighty.

From a handling perspective, the choice depends on your motor control. Plenty is bulky, and the hot coil may make you anxious, especially with a sudden jolt of arm or shoulder muscle spasticity. You can rig it with tubing to avoid holding the unit itself, but you'd still need to repress the handle switch every couple minutes. This may be viewed as either annoying or a good safety feature.

With the Mighty, you need good hand/finger dexterity to take apart the cooling unit for cleaning. You make pizza, so your hands and fingers probably work fine.

The Mighty is easier to pick up, hold, put down on side table, no cord to trip on or get tangled with before and after session.

Mighty takes less than 2 minutes to warm up, while Plenty takes 4. This alone can make a difference.

The Plenty will probably never break, but with the Mighty you will need factory battery replacement eventually. The Plenty is cheaper and may be easier to resell if you want to buy a used one for a test drive.

S&B would probably guide your choice based on usage -- Plenty for very frequent use.

Actually, my hand/finger dexterity is crap. That's precisely why I drop and knock over just about everything. (I haven't made pizza since last August, I think.) So that probably puts the Plenty solidly ahead at this point.

I'm surprised to see you pitch the Mighty ahead of the Plenty. You're the first person I think of when I think of the Plenty.

Strangely I'm in no hurry to make this purchase. So I hope more people show up to educate me.

Yeah, Plenty was the first vape that I fell for. Free, open draw and mindless operation -- no technique required. When vapor stops producing, it's done. No combustion or near combustion. This may be an issue for you, as I remember reading your posts searching for a high temp, really dark ABV. You won't get that with the Plenty. They have the upper temp "governed." On the other hand, a vape study showed a mere 2-3% actives remaining in the ABV of the Plenty test, so color shouldn't be our only guide. If you do decide on trying the Plenty, the wood vise I showed as a stand would be a good setup for you. Eliminate cooling coil, insert 14mm male to male adapter instead, attach a 2-3 foot length of silicone tubing with Plenty mouthpiece at the end. Tubing would cool vapor enough, replace it when too stinky. Now the problem is dosage control. Now know you would not handle little dosage capsules well, so it would be up to you to control how much you put on the big chamber screen. If you keep the Plenty stable with the vise, there is no need to cover the load with the pad. Very easy to remove and reattach the herb chamber when the bulk of Plenty is held by the vise. Sorry for my ramblings. This should be in the Bump thread.

From your listed choices, the Plenty seems most rugged/least technique involved (since you cannot use the dosing capsules) if you can live with it not being as herb-efficient as others.

From outside your choices, I'd suggest you look at the miniVAP. Can work as a connected desktop that is very compact/ very light/ very easy to handle OR as a portable with huge battery capacity but bigger and heavier with battery attached.
This would be best if you could use the miniVAP Flexicones modules. FYI, I find them MUCH easier to use vs the S&B dosing capsules. It's a silicone lid and wire basket bottom that firmly sticks together and easily comes apart and makes for a super-clean oven/almost never needs cleaning.
Flexicones are not a deal breaker if no-go as you can still load the chamber direct for bigger hits but oven gets dirtier.
FYI, I use my Flexicones in Mighty/ Herbalizer/ Vapor Prima as they are "the cat's meow".
Oh--miniVAP takes a little longer to warm up, if that's a big deal

@ChooChooCharlie I've actually kinda come to the conclusion that really dark ABV doesn't necessarily mean what most of us think it means. First of all because an appropriately-portioned treat of very dark Underdog ABV fucks me up. The same amount of milk-chocolate-y Herbalizer ABV does essentially nothing to me. Not sure about Volcano ABV, but it does come out the same color as Herbalizer ABV. Based on my pizzamaking experience, I'm inclined to think very dark ABV more likely indicates direct-draw ABV (repetitive intense heating and cooling).

All right, now we're seeing the mod freak I remember meeting after doing my Aromed dough riser mod. I have recently thought of another Aromed mod, but my Aromed lives with cops now. (I don't feel ready to share this mod idea because this idea may be worth a lot of money.)

Dark ABV usually is indicative of conduction while lighter shades are full on convection like the herbalizer you mentioned .as far as I know that's how it is...
Convection rules btw.
And whatever you call the supreme vapor.
Convection/conduction/radiation heat ?
Maybe biogasification lol

Yes, but if you think hard and try to understand why some ABV is consistently darker than other ABV, it makes sense that direct draw vapes will likely end up with darker ABV than bag vapes. Because the herbs used in direct draw vapes fully heat, then cool, then fully heat again, and so on. Conversely, bag vapes heat the herbs once.

If you try to bake a pizza by putting it in the oven for 20 seconds, then removing it from the oven for 30 seconds, then heating again for 20 seconds, and so on (like you do to your herbs when using a direct draw vape), the outside of the pizza will be black by the time the inside is done. Just like what I've consistently seen with ABV from direct draw vapes but not bag vapes.

@ChooChooCharlie and @MinnBobber, could you guys share links to posts featuring any mods you have done? Doesn't matter what vape. I like how you guys think. We should all get together and create a vape that utilizes our collective mod ideas, because we've all managed to make some of our vapes better by modifying them; even vapes that are already very good. I've managed to turn one useless vape into an awesome vape. Not to mention my DIY pipe vape.

If your concern is breaking glass, but you want the flavor of the evo,
your safest bet imo is using the EVO with a good quality silicone whip.
Keep in mind the EVO is very light weight and can tip easily.
I have recently broken the glass in my cloud, the risk is real.
Vapexhale do offer a repair service for newer units at a price : https://www.vapexhale.com/products/vapexhale-evo-accidental-break-repair-service

The Mighty is also a great unit and is tough and super easy to use, but as you said, you don't have much need for portability.

As someone who owns both the Mighty and the Cloud (which functions essentially the same as the Evo,
i've used the Evo and my original cloud back to back and the difference in function is pretty negligible) I can say that the Cloud is the clear winner (compared to the mighty),
however the fact that the Mighty actually comes close to the cloud is amazing.

I'd say get the Evo, i've used a lot of vapes and for me the Cloud/Evo is the best in terms of flavor, heat up time, vapor production. If you're looking to get the Evo cheaper, look on the Classified section and Ebay for 2nd hand units.

A short conversation between myself and someone at Vapexhale, beginning with my original inquiry.

-------------------------------------------

Having viewed your website, it appears you occasionally offer factory second vaporizer units. If so, are you ever willing to keep any kind of waiting/contact list of prospective buyers?

I ask because I'm becoming very interested in owning an EVO, but a new EVO will always be a prohibitively risky purchase for me, due to weakness and poor muscle control. (Replacing important glass Aromed parts taught me an
expensive lesson about buying vapes with important glass parts.)

Thanks,
Ryan

VapeXsupport replied:

Ryan,

Thank you for reaching out!

We actually only offer factory seconds of the Hydratubes, not the EVO unit itself.

Please let us know if we misunderstood you.

We would love for you to be able to have an EVO!

Sincerely,
VapeXsupport

Here's some helpful information: There is no chance I'll make a $400+ purchase of something I know I'll end up breaking, and will always fear breaking until it finally happens. Been there, done that. Since the vape you produce is too fragile to be bought by a certain demographic, if you produce any factory seconds, you should seriously consider selling them fairly cheaply to people like myself, who aren't going to spend that kind of money for something they already know will become unusable at some point; probably soon. We are a big demographic, and we only buy what we know isn't going to be wasted. Looks like I'll be buying a Plenty with the money I was hoping to spend on a factory second EVO.

@Aimless Ryan you and I have talked a few times and I had initially followed your pizzamaking posts.

I've been trying to think of what might work out a good marriage for you in terms of things you would like. I understand that desktops that require lifting can present some challenge and that you've been leaning towards a whip experience. Have you looked at all at @funkyjunky's tubo evic? It is in the unreleased portables section and can be used direct draw or with a whip. I've not used one but it is on my list of wants. It allows for digital temp control and they use 18650 batteries, is it difficult for you to perform battery swaps or to use the temperature change buttons on portables?

I'm not familiar with that vape. I have seen it mentioned, though. Thanks for directing me there. I'll check it out.

I'm not really in need of anything new; just jonesing for something new and different. With a Volcano, Herbalizer, and Underdog, I'll probably never actually need another [tabletop] vape; especially since the Volcano is just about perfect for weak, clumsy folks like myself. I just want a change-up.

Vapexhale don't offer factory seconds on their actual unit and never have.
You may be getting it mixed up with how they sell factory second glass,
Or the time they were screwed over by their manufacturer and a number of factory second original clouds leaked onto ebay (Most of which i'm aware broke fairly quickly).

Electronics are much more complicated than glass, I wouldn't even want to risk getting what a company considers a 'factory second' and I doubt Vapexhale would want to be implicated with that risk.

It's also against Forum Policies to share the contents of private conversations without both parties consent.

If you don't feel comfortable buying the Evo due to your condition (which is completely understandable)
then I suggest searching for a different product. However in my opinion suggesting a company lower the price of their product for you because it doesn't fit your needs sounds more like you should search for a different product rather than trying to justify your purchase with a discount on the basis of your disability.

This is not meant to come off as critical or attacking you and I apologize if it does.

Edit : If your heart is set on vapexhale evo, my only suggestion to save money would be getting it 2nd hand and buying a hydratube on dhgate.

Aimless Ryan

You don't seem to understand the concept of factory seconds. Apparently neither does Vapexhale. That's not my problem. Nor is it my responsibility to overpay for faulty design. Some other companies understand that.

I'm not interested in lowballing anyone. All I'm interested in doing is making an even exchange.

I modded my Herbalizer with the miniVAP Flexicone modules. Herbie bottom chamber only, then Flexicone, then hydratube direct OR shove Flexicone into Delta 3D Song I had him make and hydratube onto that or his Song also offers a much more secure connection for whip. Flexi means chamber never needs cleaning .
Pic shows S&B dosing capsule in Herbie chamber but Flexi works much better IMO

Another fav mod is the Flexicone filter: wire basket bottom, main screen, degummed hemp fiber filter, tiny over-screen, Flexi top. Keeps all those nasty micro ABV particles from your mouthpiece/ whip/glass/mouth/throat

Also, my quoting of an email conversation was not an attempt to make anyone look bad. It was simply me sharing information I thought could be useful. If you think my earlier message makes Vapexhale look bad, it's because you interpreted it that way. If I had paraphrased their response, that would look to me more like quoting someone out of context, or misquoting.

Here's a crazy idea. Buy a Mighty cooling unit for $20. Noticed vapornation has them in stock, free shipping.

Play with it, see if you can separate it and put it back together.

If YES -> buy Mighty
If NO -> I'll buy the CU back from you

And, don't worry about filling the chamber or handling capsules -- @Ratchett has your back with an easy-to-handle loading funnel specially designed for the Mighty.

Think you already saw my pics and posts of Plenty being held by that wooden vise. There are always a couple Plentys on ebay, don't worry about buying one of these used. The vise was around $15. It's heavy and has a wide stance, it won't tip. Makes it easy to empty and replace chamber with one hand, if necessary. You may not like the feel of holding the bare silicone tubing, so you could use a cover like I showed. (Vito says silicone tubing feels like touching a baby monkey's palm! Yuck, especially after watching what they do after dropping a load)

I'm not really sure what this means, but I got another email from Vapexhale:
Ryan,

We sincerely appreciate your sentiments.

I know the conversation for factory seconds EVOs is at hand. We will let you know as soon as we can about that decision.

Please let us know if there is any other questions or concerns

Sincerely,
