^Wow that's some news! I've always wondered why the only American diesel engines are big 6 and 7 liter gas guzzlers. The euro cars have extremely fuel efficient turbo diesels that also provide a mountain of torque at low rpm. Diesels are also extremely reliable and I definitely could see myself owning one. As long is it meets my prerequisites of course :D

What's weird is that the regular Cruze is already rated at 40 mpg highway. How much better could the diesel variant get? Until recently I've always recommended the Jetta or Golf TDi to people who were considering economy cars, but there's been an explosion of very efficient compacts in the last couple of years.
