Dark oil - ABV extract

So I've been blasting butane through my ABV, and I've been getting a darker oil than what I get from fresh buds (and much less of it obviously). And I've been finding hotknifing this is a wonderful accompaniment to regular vaping - as long as you're after the couch-lock effect. Of course you could do an extract with iso, and probably get just as good results, as the aromatics are gone from the ABV anyway, and so it would surely result in a more-or-less similar taste.

Mind you the dark oil doesn't do much on its own - I find it just gives me a vaguely cloudy effect that doesn't seem to really penetrate my brain. But together with regular toking from a vapourizer and I'm a floating space cadet. :ko:

This seems to agree with what I've read about the high-boilers, in that they work best in conjunction with THC. I've also read somewhere that Cannabidiol (CBD) actually prolongs the effect of THC - something else I can believe. But also that CBD can become saturated in your system (which can kill your motivation) and that you need to exercise to clear your system of it. The advantage of this vapourizer-plus-dark-oil method is that you can find whatever balance of the two that produces whatever effect you happen to be after at any given time.

So I find that earlier in the day I like to use a (fairly low temp) vape only for a spacey energetic high, while as during the evening I break out the oil as well to turn into 'Cannabanana'.

EDIT For those new to butane honey oil or isopropanol extraction here's a couple of links:

And of course Spiderman's oil extravaganza is the centre of BHO activity around these parts:

i've been making dark BHO from ABV. I didn't like the taste of it off the Ti spork, but my room-mate has been using it with herb (he loves it).

Yeah, the taste is certainly different from fresh-bud BHO. But that's because the fruitier, tangier oils are some of the first to be vapourized and so aren't left in the ABV. I find it has a certain hearty, 'meaty' taste that I recognize from smoking hash (as in traditionally produced hash).

But yeah, it definitely needs to be used in combination with normal vapourizing, otherwise it doesn't hit you right.

we made another batch last night. we have been keeping the volcano at 5, so the ABV is only a bit toasted.

this stuff is great. I had a full night sleep for the first time in years.

Wow, you are definitely conserving at 5. I usually pull two bags, one at 5.5, one at 6.5. And I generally make brownies with the duff (that are pretty potent). They'd be killer if I just vaped at 5, I think. Good on ya.

It's consumable too. No need to decarboxylize it, that's already been done by the process of vaping. I've had good success dissolving ABV Hash/oil into vegetable oil to make brownies with. They were pretty potent (3/4 oz dark brown abv plus a good amount of wand hash), but had a very strange effect when consumed alone without vaping. They definitely gave a heavy sedative stone that made you just want to lay around and do nothing for hours. My eyes got very red and something happened with the pressure, I don't know if it increased or decreased, but my eyes just felt very heavy. It was actually slightly annoying and uncomfortable at some points because it seemed to lack many of the most interesting properties that cannabis has to offer.
I didn't vape because I was broke and dry at the time of baking these brownies, that's why I didn't try mixing the two. It sounds very very awesome for an extra super stone haha.

Side note: I find that vaping weed at a med temp and then turning it up higher gives me those extra cannabinoids that are obviously not being released at lower temps (300-350?). I like the fact that I can choose the type of high I get with just adjusting the temperature.

Nick, you hit the nail on the head there. What's left in the duff after vaping seems quite CBD/CBN-heavy, and THC-light. You can get a good couchlock going with just brownies, but, overall, I find them enjoyable. The first clue I have that the brownies are taking hold is feeling the pressure in my eyeball changing. It was a bit disconcerting at first, but I now look forward to it.

Right on with using 'low temperature' vaped weed at higher temperatures. My girlfriend has been saving all of her vaped Iolite weed (I think that is set to 190C/374F) for me to use in the Extreme. I plan to collect bags at 200, and then raise it bit by bit. I should be couchlocked tomorrow night I think. What's the highest temperature to go (215-220?). I'm not looking for flavour here; that's what I do when I vape starting at 140C (I swear it tastes like Welches grape or something similiar).

:2c:I vape at low temps 320 f. Pot is a psychoactive hallucinogen( my fav hallucinogen) delta 9 thc is the most psychoactive isomer. it boils at 315 f it starts vaporing at 301 f. The reason I like vaporization is to avoid certain constituents of cannabis. If you want couch lock butter up a gram of something good drizzle some honey on top and lick the spoon! :peace:

How long would you recommend letting the ABV sit in the ISO before straining? And how much ABV would you use if it was brown - dark brown in color? Thanks

This might be just a personal choice issue like it is with fresh bud, where the shorter the time you shake it or let it sit, the purer the oil, but the lower the yeild. But I don't know how the impurities in fresh bud iso-oil compare to those in ABV iso-oil (since I use butane).

Mind you the darker the ABV, the less you're going to get out of it too, of course. If you've been vaping at well over 220C/430F then there's probably not much left at at all. Still, give it a go with a few grams of that duff and see what you get - you've got nothing to lose.

OK after a while experimenting with ABV BHO I'm finding a very nice and mellow couchlock effect from having a good hit of this as the first one for the day (so before vapour or anything else). I wait for that to kick in properly (around 15 mins) which relaxes my body without warping my mind too much (I find it quite calming ) It feels like sitting in a warm cloud. Then I hit my PD or MFLB. This grabs my mind and zones me right into that cloud and I float off with it. But I don't do it when I've still got things to do that day, as they're unlikely to happen.:ko:

So yeah hitting the ABV extract high boilers first, wait for them to kick in, relax into it, and then hit low boilers from a vape. I recommend it.

Made some QWISO the other night using 30g's of avb and got less than half a gram back from 30 second soak and 15 second shake

I thought that the moment i tried qwiso made from avb

I'm making two types of hash right now and am so excited to try them out, (hash virgin)
Harvesting some wand hash, and ISOing some swamp hash from my ABV.

I'm thinking of putting a dab of each along with some high grade kief I have in a PD stem with the last of my jack herer. Anybody have any idea how potent such a mix would be? I've been taking a forced T-break recently and do get quite floaty from a stem or two of good bud. I'm looking forward to testing just how much more "effective" hash can be :D

The increase in affect when combined with bud seems to make perfect sense, but do you think it could be replicated with just kief, aka making ear wax? (Kief+Hash)
Unfortunately I have only one PD stem's worth of ANY bud left :(

Wand hash and 'swamp' hash (heh good name) are a perfect combo - after all the wand hash is the stuff that vapourized, and the swamp hash is the stuff that didn't. However, I don't think the swamp hash will vape any better in a PD when extracted than it did when it was still in the herb. You'll have to hotknife it or something, as the temperature of the PD won't be high enough.

I run my ABV through the vape 2 or 3 times after the initial session, pushing it to the edge of combustion, by the end it is almost black. I still get some good QWISO out of it though. It's black tarry stuff. Has a slightly charred planty taste when smoking it, but it doesn't have a whole lot of flavour. Mostly makes me sleepy, but sometimes it's quite potent.

Making it from wand residue on the other hand, it comes out a brownish off-white colour and packs a serious punch. It's surprising how much a dirty wand yields as compared to a whole lot of thoroughly vaped ABV.

I have an ounce of seriously mouldy bud that I'm going to turn into oil. Will be my first time making it from fresh herb, even if it does have yellow fuzzy mushrooms all over it....It's definitely a better option than throwing it in the compost.

I also heard that you can make a wash from bong resin? I know there are still some actives in bong/pipe resin, but has anyone tried it, and does it taste as awful as I imagine it would?

Why not? I have an MZ and I've made QWISO (will be making some with ABV soon) with bud, and when I don't have the time or inclination to get my bubbler and oil globe out I load the stem loosely with bud or abv, draw through it to heat it up a bit, and place a piece of qwiso on top. I then turn the Zap upsidedown to place the stem in it (to make sure the hash doesn't fall out). When I hit it I can hear the hash crackling. Wouldn't it work the same for abv qwiso?

i find that with some extra water diffusion, the hits don't taste bad off a ti pad.

gold all in my chains...dont believe me just watch
SKIP TO BELOW THE ASTERISKS FOR THE STRAIGHT INFO...sorry if my background story is too long...just thought it would provide more insight...

IMPORTANT EDIT: please make sure that you use a high percentage ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL or another nonpolar solvent that you know of to be safe & residue-free (id stick to isopropyl alcohol since its cheap & easy). but i havent read this posting in a while so please make sure that you consult or find a friend or someone who is familiar with this before you do this yourself if you are a beginner. also remember to thoroughly dry your stuff after youre finished with the water step. there is also a discussion out there (not made by me) if you google "water curing..." that may be helpful if you cant understand how i explain it.

or see this video here (not made by me): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnOYT4yuctE

wow. so ive definitely read through thousands of posts from fuckcombustion.com & always had something to say but never wanted to sign up just because of the risks of being linked to info like this. i even live in cali & do NOT have a Rx card for the same reasons. im one of those dudes that doesnt want info to be out there about me...but ive done some research (along with doing research in a chem lab @ a university in westwood...not THC related, but definitely some useful lab techniques & chemistry-related info from that is applicable to this subject) and i cannot contain myself any longer...so i broke down & signed up for an account because more people have to know about this - knowledge is infinite & spreads like fire!!!

other background info about me:

1. i have a volcano vape that i use (increase the heat bag-by-bag until its at the max - some people think this is as good as smoking, but my ganja is NEVER black nor shows any signs of combustion after these sessions...so i think its OK)

2. i just bought a magic flight launch box that im excited about & waiting for it to come in the mail (i plan on using my judgement about vaping out of the MFLB...i will put the post-vape in my "recyclables" container when i feel that i would rather work on vaping a new batch than worrying about the current one, as there is no dial setting like my volcano...thats what i PLAN on doing...so hopefully thats a good gameplan)

3. i hate wasting ANYTHING. whether it be ganja, food, money, or even time. one of the reasons i started vaping was to make the most out of my starting materials

*** *** ***
anyways (long intro)...sorry if its too much info. YES it is true that you can use a high-percentage alcohol to extract THC, however, it tends to pick up other things, like the chlorophyll pigment, fertilizers, other contaminants (contaminants are not necessarily poisons, just non-THC substances) - which are unwanted ingredients in your extraction, if left to soak for too long. but, on the other hand, who knows whether the QWISO method extracts the most THC possible...like i said, i HATE wasting...

so, this is a way to get the most THC out of your post-vape material while avoiding the bullshit:

1. wait for some time to save up a nice amount of post vape (use your judgement - theres no official amount)...more = more.

2. put it in a pantyhose or something that will keep it together while separating it from its surroundings. if you wish to not use a pantyhose, just note that you will end up doing more straining & ultimately more work.

3. immerse it in water (NOT HOT & NOT COLD - just regular temperature water)...this will "wash" the ganja without removing its THC since THC is not soluble in room-temperature water. this step is called "curing" and is a good way to get rid of a lot of unwanted substances.

4. discard the old water & replace it with fresh water once a day for a whole week. doing this will be sure to rid your product of a lot of unwanted chlorophyll and other substances. renewing the water makes sure that the ganja is not just sitting there in a pool of its own waste. by waiting a day to change the water each time gives the water a good amount of time to remove waste.

5. after a week of soaking it in daily-renewed water, spread the ganja out & dry (with a food dehydrator, blow-dryer, your oven, a fan, your farts, or whatever you can use without blowing it away too much). make sure it is nice & dry from the water so it doesnt get moldy & all of the water is gone.

6. after it is dry, put it in the freezer for about 3 hours (use your own judgement)

7. while it is still cold, soak it in a nice grade alcohol. 99% is hard to find out here in socal grocery stores/pharmacies, so i just use a 91%...that pretty much means there is 9% water in the rest of it (which has a higher boiling point & takes a bit longer to evaporate off).

8. mix, swirl, & mash up your alcohol/ganja combination & store in a sealed GLASS bottle in a dark area for 3 - 6 days (use your judgement & it depends on how patient you can be). do not use plastic because a lot of plastics can become corroded by high-grade alcohols. remember to shake it up every once in a while. you can keep the sealed bottle in a double-layer of brown paper bags or under your bed or whatever. pretty much keep it away from sunlight (& your mom!).

9. now, since all the chlorophyll & waste is already removed (from the water), it does not really matter how long it is stored in alcohol for. so all you gotta do now is strain it, NOW throw away your post-vape ganja, & work on evaporating your alcohol in a WELL VENTILATED AREA. you can use the fan under most kitchen sinks to let most of the alcohol vapors safely escape. you can use a rice-cooker (keep it outside & the lid off).

10. what you will end up with is a NICE COLORED THC OIL. it wont be dark, thick, & full of chlorophyll...what is left is pretty much PURE THC.

***
it may be time consuming, but that is how to get the MOST THC out of your post vape.

QUICK SUMMARY:

1. soak up post vape in H2O, refreshing the H2O every day for 1 week.
2. dry the post vape somewhat quickly so mold doesnt fester
3. freeze the post vape
4. soak it in high-grade alcohol, store in a dark place, & agitate it often
5. strain the post vape from the alcohol & discard the post vape
6. SAFELY evaporate the alcohol
7. ENJOY!!!

sorry for the full-length of it, but i figured some people may appreciate the science behind why each step is critical...let me know how it turns out.

give it a shot...what have you got to lose anyways? post vape!??!!??!

hi all,
just wanna put my :2c: in.

I made my 3 or 4th abv/iso wash 2 days ago & I am constantly amazed at how good it is.

1min to 90sec soak & shake (in intervals), strain with coffee filters & a potato ricer into a pyrex dish & let evaporate in a nice dark well vented corner.(or if i cant wait, hit it with the hair dryer)

Once its all dry & evaporated, I then sprinkle some kief from my grinder all over the dish & then get scraping & press it into a ball.

The lot I just did was a really crumbly mess.
well I just pressed it as best I could into a block, wrapped it in tinfoil, pressed it a bit more (just in my fingers)
I then hit the tinfoil with the hairdryer for a few mins, pressed it again, hit it with the dryer for 3 mins, pressed it.
unwrap it & there looks like a nice chocolate brown, sweet hash smelling block of.............??
hash analogue??

Holy shit batman, I give a bit to my hardcore combusting mate (longtime smoker but not a particularly sophisticated smoker).
well fuck he couldnt tell the diff from qwiso & the real thing (hash). (not that anyopne round here has seen the real thing for many years)

Just waiting for my vapor swing to arrive, any day now.

been waiting 2 weeks, usa to oz. any day now

yep, HUGE fan of the qwiso wash.
personally, I find it much more user friendly than BHO as well. but thats just me, im pretty lazy.

I think I'm going to try this next week. I plan on using about an ounce of ABV with the QWISO method. Should I use enough iso to just cover the ABV? I assume that the more iso I use the longer it will take to evaporate. Also I have a dome and nails on the way, I'll be able to use it with this, right?
