Da Vinci Vaporizer Concerns

I recently purchased a Da Vinci and when I first used it, it tasted very weird. Almost like a rubber or plastic taste. After this experience I tried dry burning it. I thoroughly cleaned the bowl and made sure it was empty then heated up the device. After a while the unit started to produce a vapor even though the bowl was empty. Is there something wrong with my device?
