Could this ceramic heating element be used for vaping?

You could probably use it, but unless you knew the manufacturer info, there would be no way of confirming if it was made safe for inhalation.

Another homemade alternative to the VHW heatwand style vaporizers would be to use a soldering iron and a Silver Surfer/Da Buddha heater cover. These can be used with a bong set up.

Check this thread, http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=121 towards the end there is a good one that has adjustable temperature and everything (not just a dimmer)

if you could stick a test tube into that hole you wouldn't have to worry about the element since it would be covered in glass, but i don't see measurements for the hole's depth or diameter

so cool seeing a ceramic element that's shaped like a drum, heating the inside, if it were open on both ends you could put a glass straw through it and have an instant light bulb vape

without measurements, and since the Hakko's are so cheap, i'd go that route instead however.
