I'm a Connecticut resident and I'm pretty happy about this. Glad we were able to join the other states who recognize the medicinal value of cannabis. Hope we can avoid some of the controversy over the dispensaries that California has been experiencing with this bill. Regardless, another step forward for the medicinal community.

Obama is just an idiot period... The shit he has pulled in ca in relation to mmj just made all the democrats who voted for him look like bigger idiots.

Ca damn near has all its depenaries closed down... So now they have to deliver it.. Unfortunately, at least here in San Diego county, the mmj drivers are now getting robbed,

I hope CT learns from the mistakes ca has made.

I would bet that Florida will be one of the very last states to legalize.

I wouldn't count on that. The panhandle is still real conservative but many would like to see this change.

I forgot to say that I'm very happy for my New England neighbors in Connecticut, congratulations and welcome!

Pardon my hijacking, I promise I'm done derailing the thread after this last post.

Though support for MMJ is high, the majority of the voting demographic in Florida is white republican senior citizens. Further, when it comes to minor marijuana charges, no other state routinely punishes more severely than Florida (source: NORML). On the medical front, pharmaceutical corporations are the biggest competitor when it comes to cannabis legalization (source: Republic Report). Cannabis was made legal for medical use toward the end of 1996. Since 1997, the DEA has allowed a 1200% increase in Oxycontin, off brands not included (source: Alternet). Medical marijuana is the single largest threat to the monopoly PhRMA has created on the pain medication market. To protect their interests, PhRMA has spent over $20 million annually since 2007, lobbying for votes to keep MMJ illegal (source: NORML). Florida prescribes 10 times more oxycodone pharmaceuticals than every state in the country combined (source: NPR, Current).

Florida is one of PhRMA's greatest assets and they are fighting hard to keep it.

Don't forget that Florida had the largest amount of pill farms in all of America. Even CVS got busted for filling illegal oxy prescriptions... Florida is trying hard to get this straightened out. Also, in 2011 there were 251 applications to open new pharmacies across america. 90% of the applicants were from Florida...

GA use to be the biggest Pill Mill states but we have cut down on them a lot but i still see the signs on the side of the road. There still out there. But right now our biggest deal is the Bath Salts and Fake Herbs. The busted into my local head shop and sezed all the Bath Salts, Spice and such from the store.

I understand you miss givings about Florida but I don't think your problem is the " white republican senior citizens", I'm not quite senior but lived in Florida and had many retired friends. I don't think any of them would have a problem with MJ. That's not your problem in Florida. I am white and republican and don't know any who have a problem with MJ. And I hang out with a very conservative crowd. Its the uptight panhandle crowd you have to work around. I think presented right, by the right crowd, everything from Orlando south would vote for medical MJ. Florida is not, is not, is not a southern state, it just happens to be south of Georgia.. There are more transplants from New England than the southerners in south Florida. It will come much faster than most of the South.
Thing of Florida as an broke off appendage of New York.
