Concentrates leaving smell?

I know when you vape weed, there is a small amount of smell, but when you vape wax, does it leave any kind of smell?

It most definitely does. Especially if the concentrate is high in terps. Rosin reeks like you stuffed a nug in each nostril. BHO and other solvent based concentrates may lose some of their terps to the solvents however IME they have a very strong smell still. Sometimes more pronounced than weed even.

We need to qualify this by saying that you can smell somebody has used concentrates is if you are somewhere near where the direct vapor stream went within a few mins of an exhale/dab etc.

No, a place will not smell like dabs if somebody has not very recently dabbed there (unless they have left oil out, or a filthy rig/vape etc). Flower vapor is similar in this regard.
