Amsterdam

I recently returned from Amsterdam. What a place. Coffee shops are cool - no tobacco or alcohol allowed. The laws are strange - anywhere there is a smoking section it is legal to smoke Tree of Knowledge.
Various new strains I hadn't tried before : haze amnesia, new york diesel, romulan etc.
Strangely Skunk#1 is no longer to be found - I assume its given way to the newer strains. Northern Lights still around.
As for vaporizers. The arizer dealer stocks a whole range which can be demo'd in the shop.
Coffee shops which were cool - The Greenhouse Co, Rookies were my favourites.

Has anyone else been ? What did you get up to ?

My wife and I are leaving for Amsterdam this afternoon. This will be our 4th trip since 2005. Obviously love the place. :brow:

My favorite shops are Amnesia and Barney's Lounge. Have spent lots of time in Rookies too.

Last October our favorite flavor was G13 haze. Had the Amnesia haze too. Hard to beat. Looking to try some Chocolope this trip, plus lots of hasj. :ko:

It IS nirvana. Recommend at least one trip there before you cash in your chips.

Cheers!

I think the city-wide cap is set at something like 500, but they may have reduced that a bit over the past few years. Either way it's hard to go a block or two without seeing one! If you're in CA, the weed is actually quite a bit better here, but you can't beat the variety and the cannabis culture in general. Nothing like burning one on a sunny afternoon on the edge of a canal while people walk by. I <3 Amsterdam.

Edit: I say burning one because I haven't had the chance to go with a portable vape - next time I'll have an IOlite or whatever in my pocket. Can't wait.

By the way - there is a Arizer dealer at 119 Kerkstreet - near Leidsplein. In addition to the Extreme they keep various other vaporisors. Best thing is you can demo them all in the shop and then go for coffee somewhere.

I just realized I wrote that in my first post :/ at least you have the address now.

KC - wow, you really think the herb here in CA is better overall than Amsterdam? Good to know!

Yeah dude, but a lot of it is the processing. Not many places are into proper drying or curing, and a lot of growers seem to harvest early. And good full melt, if you can even find it, is like 50 euro a gram! Not dissing, I LOVE Amsterdam, I think it's just the fact that the market is so much bigger here.

curing is that important eh? I know this aint the right forum but what are some good tips for curing? I got some girls ready to dry and want to make sure I got this step covered

I tend to agree with KC - while the 'dam stuff was great is was by no means better than anything else. Most of it is indoor grown so its all fairly similar.

Curing is vital for a smooth and flavourful smoke. The method I use is to dry the stuff in a cool dark place (like a cupboard) for about a week (ambient temp around 25degC - will need more time if its cooler). Then, before its completely dry I put it into glass jars (also in the dark) where the curing takes place.
Jars need to be opened at least once a day to allow fresh air in. Pay attention to the smell - any whiff of ammonia is a sign the plant needs to be drier - leave the jar open for a day or two. Same in the case of mould.
Curing is complete after about four weeks - plant will turn slightly darker. My plant stays in the curing jars for good - untill I use it.
The difference between cured and non-cured is night and day.
I'm interested to hear from others.

Depends where you go in Holland. Amsterdam is the most famous part but its also the most tourist. Go to Rotterdam, Maastricht or some other cool spots in Holland.

If you go to tacky tourist traps, you will get tourist trap quality.

Make no mistake everything I tried was excellent - Amsterdam and else where (Zandfoort etc). What Im trying to say is that good stuff is good stuff. Home grown is often hard to beat.
Mates of mine from the UK were blown away by the 'dam stuff - I assume they're accustomed to worse quality.

What Amsterdam has over any other place in the hash. Nothing like a hash spliff and a cold beer.

Now for some advice that might help in this crazy city.
Be friendly and talk to the man behind the counter
A good pair of shoes is a must
Smoking at a bar (ones that let you) is a great way to save money on drinks.
You will get lost. Use the tram lines and the map along the line to find your way.
Stay away from blue lights

A few places I like.
Kashmir Lounge: Very comfy and theres a bar (herbs bought across the street). Its far from the center but worth it.
de Kuil: plays Zappa, good cookies, volcano bags, open late.
Rokerij: Good bud, knowledgeable staff. There's 4 of um total. The two I visited where great.

I'm planning a long weekend break to Amsterdam. I've never been since Ive started Vaping. Are volcano vapes common place (or other vapes) in a lot of the coffee shops?

Im anticipating I will probably end up smoking as well. Might have to buy something cheap to use when Im there and just leave it. I dont like the idea of travelling with equipment if it has any residue on (even if Ive cleaned it).

I like Blueberry's videos about her visits http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcPTuDNS2i8 Like the look of Mellow Yellow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSg83HIyCJw Pure 100% sativa at 0.40 he says 16 weeks to finish..is that 16 weeks of flowering or the whole thing from start to finish? Ive never seen a pure sativa

good is good and any grower with the seeds can produce anywhere in the world. You can get any strain there here.

Amsterdam is just an awesome place. Great vibes, my wife and I stayed for 10 days for X-mas & New years - Had a blast. It's just great to pick a strain, grab a cup of coffee, and smoke guilt free. Centraal Station is your hub to get around by tram.

PS - Don't eat FEBO
- but look for a black chocolate bar called "NOIR DE NOIR" @ the smart shops. You will get a really good trip off it. good stuff

BTW Curing is very important

Yes and no, I think the general quality of weed is better in California. However the best weed I have ever smoked was a tie between the G-14 haze @ Barneys in Amsterdam, and some home grown white rhino from northern Nevada (Just because this grower cracked out like it was a science project). Long story short I think if you know what you are looking for, you might be able to find something better in Amsterdam at the extreme high end, but it would be cheaper in Cali.

Barneys is a must visit place by the way, great place to start the morning.

Roughly how much does an enjoyable 3-day trip to Amsterdam/Holland cost? I know the plane ticket is the bulk of it, but you have to consider a hotel, food, and of course...the glorious bud. I'm not even mentioning the cost of souvenirs and other attractions in the city.

You can do it for really cheap. There are tons of good cheap hostels(15-30 euro a night), you might meet some cool people there so I would recommend it over a hotel. The food is usually cheapish too, I had a steady supply of 5 euro pizza and stir fry while I was there. Stoner heaven.

The expensive part is the pot/any other vice you might take part in while there. I think you could have a great time in Amsterdam for about $100/day. I personally would want about $500 for a 3 day trip.

Damn, that's not bad at all. But what about a plane ticket from say....Atlanta or somewhere on the eastern seaboard to Amsterdam?

700-1100 was what a quick internet search gave me. Cool thing is Amsterdam is a major international airport.

OH. MY. GOD.

Researching a trip to Amsterdam has literally got me watering at the mouth.

I MUST go soon! :o

I'm seriously considering going sometime in December or January (supposedly the "cheapest" and least crowded month of the year), even if I have to go by myself. I doubt anybody I know has the money to go...which sucks, but it would give me a chance to do some "soul searching".

I've never even traveled outside the US though...so this big of a trip is kinda overwhelming. We'll see....

I WILL go one day before I die...guaranteed.

I'm with Sanjo. While you can sample numerous (often improperly cured) strains, the real draw for me (been 4 times) is the hash. We just don't get much here, and there is some amazing hash in the 'Dam.

Check out Coffeeshopdirect.com for maps and reviews and such.

If you go solo you can bang some prosti's with no shame.

I wouldn't go alone, unless you are a true social butterfly. The Dam can be sketchy though, had some friends that got an apartment for a couple months there and basically fled towards the end of the lease. One of my friends got drugged at a Casino by some guy..... lots of weird euro underground shit if you are not careful.

ATL is probably an 8 hour flight.
