Hi All,
Following on from the hilarious Arizer Solo thread, as promised... here is the :- Guess 1DMF's Initialisation Competition.
Brief History
When I first started out as a software / web developer 10+ years ago, I was completely self taught and very ignorant regarding best practices, industry standards, terminology, paradigms... basically I used to fudge things till they worked.
I would often get stuck and need some help, so I turned to professional techy forums... and as with all forums, I needed a handle.
So I came up with 1DMF based on my passion... was I aware of what some might think it stood for, of course, which I thought was pretty apt, as at that time I was pretty dumb regarding Object Orientated Programming (OOP), data typing, database design & normal form etc.
Even after a few years, the more I learned the more I realised I had gaps in my knowledge and needed to go back and learn some fundaments as I was clearly missing something... So I decided to send myself back to school and started a four year Diploma course with the Open University in the evenings after work and the weekends, which included class days at Croydon / Coulsdon college.
As I have Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, I had to be assessed for dispensation because even though it was a computing course the final exams were still paper based and I have real trouble with handwriting.
During the assessment, I was told I had Dyspraxia by the O.U. adjudicators that visited my home. However, as testing for this condition is highly skilled and only a handful of people are qualified in the UK and the O.U. will only accept diagnosis from these select few, I had to pay a specialist over £300 to assess me.
It turned out I do have Dyspraxia (A learning disability) : I know some of you like to read up on shit so I've hyperlinked the word!
Now all the trouble I had at school and through-out my life finally makes sense and why I can't do handwriting very well and being tortures as a child being forced to write 1000's lines for many years as punishment is probably why I had early onset Carpel Tunnel Syndrome since my late teens.
It took until I was nearly 40, sending myself back to university and paying for an expert to assess me for it to finally be diagnosed - though I should point out I have a mild form of Dyspraxia and apparently an above average IQ (it's part of the assessment) which sort of balances out some of the symptoms (unless I've had a drink and then it's exaggerated.) - Though you now know why I sometimes get the wrong end of the stick as I can struggle with 'context'.
Anyways... this is when I then started to adopt the dumbfounded 'Fry' avatar when joining other forums, as I thought it was amusing knowing that people think my handle stands for 'One Dumb MO FO' and the fact that I actually have a 'brain damage' type disability, well it makes me chuckle, and judging from the Arizer Solo thread and the fact I've started this competition... I can see it makes you chuckle to - mission accomplished
Incidentally on the techy forums that I have now become an active member in giving back where I can and helping out the 'new' noobies including writing how-to FAQ's, one of the regulars who has helped me over the years actually posted having seen my knowledge and experience grow and suggested it was time to change my handle... which I quipped...

Competition Prize
So on to the actual competition. Firstly here is a photo of what I'm giving away to the lucky winner.
I'm not even sure what some of this stuff is, to me it looks like glass nails (dunno what you do with them?) some GonG's that wouldn't fit anything I have, and yes there is even an Arizer Solo / Air 'bubbler' mouthpiece (New purchase only used once but I don't like it, so hope the winner will get some use out of it), there is also another 'mini bubbler', but not sure what would fit it?
Competition Clues
Now I think it only fair I give you context of where my handle is derived (which I hinted at in the beginning of this thread).
It is based on my love and passion for E.D.M. (Electronic Dance Music). I have been in love with E.D.M. ever since I was @ 10 and the New Wave Funk that hit the U.K. from the U.S.A. aka Electro Breakdance!
This passion never left me and was revived in the late 80's when the U.K. started the Acid House rave scene based on the pioneer house DJ's / artists from Chicago.
In 2000 I set up a record company with a friend and started making my own tracks... 15 years later and countless website re-writes, I am now working on my 13th album, writing yet another new and shinny version of my website (still gotta get motivated to finish it!) and have 11 other artists on my label... check it out : http://dance-music.org
