Discontinued The Persei Vaporizer for herbs and concentrates.

Thanks. I just got my Hercules and I found the connection was really difficult to get stable with the PTFE on. The vaporizer would keep saying Check Atomizer and have the ohms not show up, and then I would twist it a bit and it would work for a little while, and then the connection would be loose again, which was frustrating. Looking at the diagnostics, I tried to remove the two PTFE pieces besides the mouthpiece and the connection appears to remain very stable and it was hitting well, so I left them off. But I'll try adjusting the bottom connector on the bottom PTFE insulator as you suggest and re-installing, and see if I can get the same good results with the safety of the heatshield.
Although, I'll say, it really doesn't appear to be getting that hot, and I wouldn't touch the metal core with my bare hands anyway. Perhaps mine isn't getting overly hot because of the vaporizer I'm using which seems to sometmes stop and tell you "Too hot! Please wait 10 seconds" when it gets too hot according to its own diagnostics. This is NOT on temperature control, incidentally, but on the regular Wattage mode (I've just been running at 35 watts), as I tried the TC and it didn't work, I'm assuming because the TC for the digital vaporizers for nicotine generally only have settings to work with wire of T1 or Ni200, not the thick coils of T2 that the Hercules uses.

In any event, I've been happy with the Hercules despite the connection problem and I'll try the fix you suggest. But the only problem I've seen with going shieldless thus far has been the issue you note with the mouthpiece occasionally coming off the top and needing to be re-set. The top-cap has been pretty stable, and I make sure not to touch the atomizer, and I think the digital vaporizer I'm using has safety features that prevent it from getting extremely hot anyway, unless I'm misunderstanding.

Thanks for the info, especially the fact that XL won't install without the shield (another good reason to try to adjust the bottom insulator and re-install the shield!)

Just have also been wondering a little bit on technique, if anyone can help-- what's the optimal pulse length? And how long to pulse initially before the first hit? No idea at all what I'm doing here, though it's been working fine just pulsing for random increments.

Edit: actually, it's not connecting at all for me with the bottom insulator attached now. I'm going to try adjusting the centerpin again, but no luck yet.

You want to be adjusting the two screws in the bottom insulator, not the center pin in the bottom chamber. You need to hold one of the gold flat head screws in place with a screwdriver while using another screwdriver to back out the other screw 1/4 turn and see if it makes a proper connection

edit: as for technique i prefer alternating 3 to 4 seconds on/off and initial warmup i just hold the button and puff like a cigar untill i see vapor (but its much easier to see with the nibbler xl)

I had the hercules sr71 and it was too fiddley for me, had to get spare pats sent like 5 times, now i see they make it 510 threaded, so can i throw it on any box and go wild now?

Does it still leak if you leave it on its side?

And how strong of a 510 vape box do i need to run a 510 hercules?

back when i got my NiblerXL, I had problems with the oring/cap coming off inside the Herc.
I decided to solve that by carving a new groove and relocating the cap's oring to the heat shield body itself.

I'm a little late to the party, I finally grabbed a tc/vv box mod what do i have to do to get a 510 for my herc.
TIA
This is what im wondering too, I only have an itaste vv and I know for sure that thing can't put out herc levels of power LOL

@DrNick420 I have only tried Sub Ohm Mods with the herc. So far they work great. I have been using the joyetech VTC mini and Cuboid with no issues at all =). I have been running straight power mode and set anywhere from 20 to 35 watts. So far it has been really nice. The one main thing I have noticed is the mods tend to heat up much faster and this can cause your concentrate to drip out the bottom if you are not careful.

Is that PTFE ring/center pin still an issue?

I am ready to pull the trigger on the 510 threaded herc but if the center pin still doesnt work reliably I don't want to deal with that....

I'm not sure what you mean by PTFE ring/center pin exactly. Can you elaborate a bit on the issue you had?

Heres a pic I found on google.

2nd from the left on the top - that thing that screws into the battery? Is that all one piece now or does the pin come out? I had a problem wit the pin falling out before i warranty replaced it and I am wondering if it is still a "weak point"

I think the part you refer to has been updated since the old sr-71 you had. @SamuraiSam can help more but if I recall the pin is now spring loaded.

Nevermind, that is not the part I thought you meant.

Yeah i had a 71

That is typically called the bottom insulator I believe.

I'm not exactly sure what version you have but on my SR-71 and SR-74 I have not experienced any issues. On my SR-74 it is spring loaded and the SR-71 uses a simple design where it is a screw that can be adjusted. I believe the newest revision went back to the SR-71 design.

All you need is a https://www.w9tech.com/cartridges/hercules/adapter-bottom-insulator/ to attach your SR series Hercules to a 510 mod.

If so, was your pin spring-loaded, or flathead-ended and adjustable with 2 screwdrivers? I'm not sure what design issue could cause the situation you report as I don't recall hearing this issue on the mechanical insulators. On the SR-74 (if yours was spring loaded we did revert to the SR-71 design so you have to adjust the pin length, but it doesn't wear out.

If the pin "fell out" but you still have both screw halves of the pin, all that may need replacing are the PTFE insulators inside it: https://www.w9tech.com/on-sale/hercules-sr-74/hercules-ptfe-insulators/ A photograph of what you experienced will help confirm what happend and what the corect fix is.

Or, if you would like to attach your existing Hercules to a box mod, the https://www.w9tech.com/cartridges/hercules/adapter-bottom-insulator/ will allow that to happen.

@SamuraiSam i had the kind you tighten with 2 screwdrivers but the connection would get fussy over time and the resistance would go all over the place? does this still happen?

I have not experienced this with my SR-71 bottom insulator which sounds like the same design.

Have you tried a replacement bottom insulator?

The only issue I'm aware of over time is that the pin can get a little shorter after some removal and installations and needs to be lengthened to restore proper connection. You can pull the insulator apart and follow the instructions to turn the screw 90° and see if connection is restored. If you think there's a defect with your insulator please email support@w9tech.com and we'll work on testing it out, or mailing it in if you'd like us to test it.

I just bought the herc as well and I am finally figuring out the technique.

My only concern is that it seems far from conservative, anybody with any experience get a lot out of one load or is definitely not for those who trying to conserve?

Well there is the oil 'buffer' which I really don't think you want to vape in to. So in that sense there is always an up front investment of oil into the Herc that you won't truly consume.

Other than the buffer though I feel like the Herc is quite conservative if that's how you choose to use it. The issue I find with the Herc is that due to its capabilities it encourages people to take huge hits. This gets particularly bad when using the Nibbler XL because you can take monster pulls that hit extremely smooth. You can sip on the thing for days if you want but that takes personal discipline hah.

I recall a friend's bachelor party where we had the Herc going strong for a full day in lightsaber mode with double 18650s on the old v2 Persei. The thing was just a cauldron of molten oil with people throwing chunks of shatter into it like putting logs on the fire all night.

I'm pretty much anti-tweaker and I LOVE the Herc.
This is what attracted me to the Herc. I tinker pretty much with my nic vape atomizers so I figured why not since some of my rebuildables are just as intracate. I was looking at something similar on the market (project was scraped) before discovering the Herc. Why has this vape been off my radar?

Good things do come to those who wait, and slowly the industry is understanding what the Herc is all about.

When it was introduced in 2012 it was a little ahead of its time, now that battery packs have caught up its becoming more and more main stream and if properly used nothing portable comes close to it.

We have many customers now claiming to reach the magic 300 grams for the Herc, and one i know has reached 500 grams on his original SR71.

Just there is a new Kiss Alpha Centauri supposed to be out today, June 15th?

Anyone have any information on the new model?

Also, the w9tech site says to check about Vaporizer compatibility, just wondering if anyone knows if it work on mine (have a Vapor Flask with an SX board, runs variable Watt 5-60 and temp control)?

Thanks!
