I go where the thrills are
Only real issue I don't like with this ff2 is the battery indicator. It is fine fine fine, 4lights and app shows full, then boom, done. got it to actually show me 2 today and within a few minutes it was done.
The battery thing has been brought up many many many times. It it known by FF that the battery indicator doesn't work and will be addressed in the app update (hopefully)....we all have this issue.

Yep this is known by FF and has been experienced by multiple users. Basically the meter reads inaccurately, occasionally, on a partially-charged battery. I find this is a non-issued if you start sessions with a fully-charged battery, but this can be difficult to manage without the external charger. (With the charger and two batteries, I find this is a non-issue, though I'm still surprised when I get a dead battery suddenly.)

In all honesty, the faulty battery meter is a huge deal to me.

My biggest complaint about the original firefly (aside from the fact that it was kinda unreliable for me) was the way the batteries would just die mid-hit without any sort of warning.

Now they're still doing that, but they tell you the battery is 100% full mere seconds before they tell you it's dead.

It's my absolute least favorite thing about this vaporizer and on some days when i start my inhale and watch the pulsing green snap to blinking red i just want to throw the goddamn thing against the concrete.

I'm very happy with the vaporizer aside from that, but the battery issue was my biggest complaint with the FF1 and the fact that the FF2 has the same problem (and in addition lies about how much battery it even has at any given moment) is driving me fucking nuts!!

It's not really the same problem. You can leave the house with the FF2 battery fully charged and get 2x or more the usage you'd get from the FF1. They really did fix the battery life issue. But because you can't rely on the meter unless the battery starts with a full charge, it can be very frustrating.

It seems like the same problem when your battery dies unexpectedly. That I completely agree with.

Hopefully they can fix it with the next firmware update which I understand is coming in the next few weeks. Fingers crossed.

Conspiracy theory coming.

So that is why they give the really (harmful to lithium-ion battery) inaccurate advice to leave the unit on the charger at all times. Then you do not see this problem and won't be annoyed by it. Leave on the
charger and run it to ground (another piece of really poor lithium-ion advice) and then fully charge. You will soon learn how many bowls you can get and can forget about the indicator.

I haven't been logging my hours or tracking hits or any sort of madness like that, so actual metrics are lacking, but I can guarantee that the 'failure without warning' is no less maddening on the ff2.

I'm not sure I understand this 'full charge' thing you keep saying either. All my batteries get fully charged, then they get used until depleted. Are you/Is FF (sorry, not holding you responsible for any of this) saying that draining the battery -over the course of a day- is enough for the battery meter to lose calibration? This isn't anything i've seen on any other device i've ever owned.

None of these batteries are getting tossed into a unit half-charged or anything.

General takeaway until this issue is fixed: fun vaporizer, great taste, great effect, battery life is entirely unreliable and the vaporizer is not fit for outside the home use. I really hope they can get it together. I really truly hate the feeling that I cannot trust my vaporizer.

Hey Jim I think Mitch is saying if fully charged in morning you should be good for the day but yeah not good enough.

Basically think of it that apps job is to record battery life but fly isn't communicating correctly with app so not working. Should be simple fix of fixing bug in app. Won't need to send in fly to fix this problem.

@darbarikanada Thanks for the good suggestion. Unfortunately I'm currently in an isolated area.

At this point it seems I'm just going to do a chargeback.

Unfortunately for me, this FF2 project has taken up too much of my time.

But it was worthwhile since I always would have been wondering if the FF2 was for me.

Also learning how FF considers smell to be not covered as a defect is something I now know to ask of other vendors before ordering.

At this point, I am going to either stick with trying vapes that primarily use wood and glass, like the Milaana or Zion, or Vapcap. My old AromaZap has a smell that I thought I wanted to get rid of, but actually it is only a pure wood smell, which by comparison, I no longer mind at all.

Good luck to all.

So I've now had the FF2 for a week or two and have some thoughts. The short version - this is a good device that functions well for its intended purpose. It is FAST on the heat up...and it handles small amounts of material volume admirably.

This is not my holy grail device. The proprietary battery must be inside the device to charge...negating most of the benefit of having two batteries. The battery meter doesn't work. The device is NOT stealth imo whatsoever...and the need to stir regularly reduces any stealth factor even further. The magnetic top form factor and glass parts are not 'made' for a stealth on the go portability imo. The device is quite easy to clean...and cleans up beautifully...but does require cleaning fairly frequently.

Overall a really great portable for around the house...perhaps even the best portable vape...but still not perfect. I'd easily give up the positives of this device for something with similar speed/power in a more portable and pocketable device. I haven't seen/tried one....but the Grasshopper looks like my holy grail.
I like this FF2 enough...but at its very premium price...and without true portability...I'm not going to stick with this one for the long term methinks.

This is about how I feel, especially on the unreliable battery. It's not that it dies quickly, it's just that I don't know where it actually is battery life wise. My memory isn't the best and I certainly won't be writing that stuff down to count pulls or days etc... Not going to happen. But otherwise I really like it, really do. So clean and smooth. Huge fan, just hate the battery situation.

I ordered white from vapeworld a couple days ago. I hope it ships quick. I did contact firefly about which colours ship faster and they said it was impossible to say. I had a feeling white would ship quicker than others due to most people going for the blue

I got my FF2 last week and have had the grasshopper for nearly a year. They are very different and both great vaping experiences. If I only could have one or would hands down be the grasshopper but glad I get to have both!

How would you compare the harshness/coolness of the vapor in the gh compared to the ff

The firefly is cooler generally although at high temps they really are kind of the same.

Vapor quality is subjective of course, being a former smoker, I actually find the grasshopper vapor quality more statisfying. I can easily see someone saying they prefer the firefly's vapor.

I haven't really done a temp by temp comparison because a. It's not really fair as the grasshopper has much more precise temperature control and b. I find I use the devices differently because of the temperature control difference.

I tend to temp step on the grasshopper from 2.5-5 during the course of a bowl, over say 10-15 draws. This works well as you get new flavor as you step up without having to stir. I also use MUCH smaller amounts in the GH so I'd say it's more efficient in that sense but also its really a personal device. Clear the bowl then pass it on rather than share a bowl.

After experimenting for really only a week so I might change my mind, but I really have found for me it's best to set the FF on high and forget it and think of it as an electronic bowl. You can get really great flavor on lower temps and if I'm trying a new strain I'll use it but for an enjoyable session on the couch or with friends, particularly non or novice vapor, setting the FF2 to high gets the job done for me. I haven't mastered packing yet, the balance is lose enough to pack vs. more hits/clouds but requires stirring. I have been able to get clouds at all temps and in not really a cloud chaser, more a flavor chaser but for convenience and balancing that the Grasshopper is a crazy cloud machine at all temps, I find High on the firefly is the balance, it's like a fresh hit out of a clean glass bowl using a hemp wick, of course I find that stirring really is best every few hits, a bit of pain but also part of the charm of the FF2. It's a different and pleaseant experience, but if I'm out and about or frankly even home and can't be bothered, the grasshopper is overall easier to use, and the way I use both the vapor quality of either isn't so different that I can objectively say one is "better"

Cooler -maybe the firefly but high temp to high temp, very little difference

Harshness- Grasshoppper but what some call "harsh" others may call "full body"

I prefer the overal vapor quality of the grasshopper but I like smoking joints more than bowls or bongs, for example although it's awesome and you get huge hits cooler than either device native, I rarely use my grasshopper with a water piece primarily because I can't be bothered (Highly recommend it though)

If your smoking preference was more a bowl or a bong then I think you would prefer the Firefly but you really can't go wrong either way.

BTW...do you add a screen to your GH (beyond the built in screen)? It would seem that you would easily and frequently get bits of material in your mouth upon inhaling....or bits of material would fall into the unit where the heating element is located. Please clarify.

This is not my holy grail device. The proprietary battery must be inside the device to charge...negating most of the benefit of having two batteries..

Not true. You have to buy an external charger, but the batteries can easily charge outside the device. (But yes, with the accessories that ship with the 2, it's not possible.)

This isn't anything i've seen on any other device i've ever owned..

I can't speak to what you've experienced. What I've experienced, across two devices and four batts, goes like this:

1. A fully charged battery, when used up within say a day or so (or maybe 12 hours) always reads correctly in both meters.
2. If I use that battery say 1/4 or 1/2, then set the FF down for a day, and pick it up tomorrow, it'll read full on both meters.
3. If I forget that I've used half of it, and believe the meter, it'll suddenly go to dead much faster than I thought, because I was mis-led by the meters.
4. If I charge both batteries and use neither of them, and set them down for three days, and then put one in the FF, it'll read accurately for the duration...unless I set it down for a day mid-charge. Then the next day it'll read falsely charged again (maybe...this doesn't happen all the time).

I don't think the batteries are having charge issues. Just the meter is having "reading" issues when you start a session on a less-than-fully-charged battery that's been sitting in the device for say a day or so.

FF is aware of this issue, but I don't know how much they've reproduced it in terms of my exact description. I have reproduced the above scenario a number of times. Again, a new firmware update may fix this in the near future. But I guess we'll see.

Basically think of it that apps job is to record battery life but fly isn't communicating correctly with app so not working. Should be simple fix of fixing bug in app. Won't need to send in fly to fix this problem.

FWIW this meter issue should be the same on the device itself and the app meter, since the app gets the data from the FF directly. (At least that's been my experience...a false "full signal" occurs on both the device, four flashes, and the app, a full battery icon.)

For me the GH is too harsh in my throat/lungs. First time I have this problem with a vaporizer and to be honest, smoking is less harsh for me, thats why I sold my GH and I'm on the hunt of a FF2 :)

But will probably end buying the GH again in the future, I love it when used through a rig/bong with water filtration.

My blue FF2 just arrived! :) I unpacked it, but have to wait until tonight to put it into use. I can confirm that the lid (probably the rubber seal) smells very much like a petroleum product, giving off a strong odor. That doesn't bother me much, as I'm sure that will ease over time. I'm leaving my lid off for now, to attempt to let it off-gas.

Will report back and post some comparison pics with my other portables later. :)

I have a pax2 and the reason I still use that occasionally is because I used to be a real smoker and sometimes it's nice to just puff on something for awhile. I have a fairly decent tolerance but I just can't take 25 rips back to back on a convection vape, I'd LOVE to but setting aside (though not really as it's the reason the taste extracts off quickly) the efficiency for a minute ...

Okay I'm leaving that sentence there unfinished and unedited as precisley my point. You just get a big ole birdhead from convection vapes that inherently for me anyway make them by definition "not session" vapes. I would say the Grasshopper is a personal device while the Firefly is for sharing, neither are "session" vapes because the flavor extracts quickly and you get high quickly because that is just the nature of convection where a conduction vape like the pax2 can "feel" more like the "coffee and cigarette" experience.

Whether my Grasshoppper or firefly, when I go on the balcony to find a cup of coffee, I take a rip or two and find that sometime later my coffee is gone and I haven't touched the vape, where pax2 I would probably go through a whole bowl if not 2 during a cup of coffee. Different experiences, both pleasant and I'm glad o have both though if I had to choose it would be convection.

Nope, for both devices I just finger grind. That might be a problem with the GH with a fine grind but I also don't think that gives the best results or as good as a finger grind. Thanks for the reminder to clear my FF mouthpiece though, I've definitely learned my lesson about fine grind on the FF but still the moutpeice clogs pretty quick, super easy to clear though, just pop it out and blow through it and it's good to go

Here's my feedback regarding the "buzzing" when using the unit, I don't hear anything. I haven't tried using it in total silence like at 3 in the morning silence, but if it is totally quiet at my home I don't hear anything. Haven't tried putting it up to my ear yet. If I don't hear it while using it, then for me I don't care if it makes a noise next to my ear in utter silence. ;)

Now regarding battery use. I thought I was going through a battery if I used the FF 2 over let's say a 4 hour period. That actually was not the case, I am embarrassed to say. At some point during one of the sessions the led would flash red. Now I know the thing is supposed to flash red if it gets too hot, but for me it wasn't hot, only a bit warm. I just assumed it was the battery. As it turns out the unit was just too warm. By the time I changed out the battery, the unit cooled down enough to work. I probably was medicated enough to not hit it for a while after that. I am just stating this because maybe some others are thinking their batteries are not lasting very long when in fact the unit is just hot and flashing red. After I realized what was going on, I let the unit cool down and checked the charge by tapping it 3x. Yup, we got juice! so it was just too hot.

Just got a response from Firefly saying that they should be receiving new lids tomorrow or early next week. They said they would contact me when they're available.

Anybody who was considering grabbing a different colored lid should keep their eyes peeled :o

I must admit all the buzz about the buzzing cracks me up a bit. I guess I'm an old-school stoner...when I'm firing my vapes, I have music playing, usually at a pretty decent volume, and I would never notice the hum. But I also cannot stand to be in a quiet room, even at night, so I guess I'm a prime candidate for someone who would never notice the sound.

So two things. One, it should be a SOLID red when it overheats (the FLASHING red is indeed a dead battery....though, in my current unit, I never get a flash....just a totally dead, no-light-at-all FF). Two, I know what you mean...you can get the solid red when the unit doesn't feel all that hot. I asked about this when I was testing the prototype (same behavior) and was told there's an internal sensor that is reading the temp, and the body of the unit may not feel all that hot, but the sensor is reading too warm, and shuts off the heater till it cools down).

I personally get the red light every day. I guess I push that fucker to the max when I'm in a serious session mode, and like once a day I push it too far and get the red. It doesn't really bother me...less than 60 seconds on a glass table and it's cool again. It's probably a good thing...it forces me to slow down. :p

I emailed them yesterday morning so it took over 24 hours for a response.

If your question was more technical than mine (which was essentially, 'when you getting extra lids?') it might take a little longer to get a response, but I'm not sure.

Maybe email them again if you don't get a response by the end of the day?

You could also try calling them directly. I would imagine that you'd get a swifter response going that route.
