Discontinued The Venus Apollo

Just so Dab HAppy!
I am a little scared off by the fact that FC users won't post milk shots of this thing? On every other thread people are so proud to post those thick milky bong hits with their new vape. I don't see anything with this one, Why? Is the vapor wispy so purchasers don't see the point or is this just a fluke?

I can imagine the first good video of it showing the load, heat up, and milking a bong, orders are going to go through the roof! I can only guess there is a reason such videos don't exist?? PLEASE prove me wrong, I want to want one! If not I'll head back over to the Zion thread to kick myself for not pre-ordering that one.
I believe only two members have received theirs. One whom is sick and one whom just received it yesterday. Give this thread through next week and I am sure you will see videos...wispy or not.

Couldn't this problem be solved with a custom-molded piece of silicone that fits around the chamber, kind of like the silicone session extender on the Grasshopper?

I don't think there is room to fit the chamber into the device with a sleeve on it...and probably too hot for it to sit there or did you mean something else?

Shouldn't high temp silicone be able to resist sub-combustion temps? I doubt the exterior of the chamber gets hotter than 400F... I do see what you're saying about the tight fit... To me it looks like shaving 2 or 3mm off the wood around the chamber would allow a sleeve to fit nicely. Most of the area around the chamber is already open, so I don't think it would be too difficult to modify the specs a little to allow more clearance around the part where there is wood.

Not everyone takes pictures or video and there is only a handful of these out in FC members hands. Plus... It has only been a couple of days.

I plan to get one eventually (working on funding) and will certainly post multiple videos. Including an HD review.

@IAmKrazy2 I feel like all your posts in this thread were either taken from or planted in my mind...including the having to sort out funding so this can go into the lineup. Your excitement and desire for this vape seem to mimic mine so much (or vice-versa). I hope to jump on board this one sooner than later too!

I have my fingers crossed that I will recieve a tracking number soon. Rest assured kids, I will be happy to show what a full chamber through a FC-UFO is capable of!

Have a couple ideas cooking for how I'll make an adapter. I've got a few @Ratchett adapters to play with as well as a few other tools I think will help.

Definitely a bit jealous of those who got their shipping notifications today, but mine should be coming on Monday. That's good that silicon tubing looks like it might be sufficient to rig the Apollo up to water. I'll probably try to figure something out with that once I get mine. Keep the reviews coming, everyone!

@vapen00b or anyone else, I am wondering if the screens were taken out of the herb chamber, how deep would an 18mm male joint would slip inside? Could a long LSV type wand be used with a basket type screens perhaps?

Ohh man, it's going to be a long weekend.... ;) Happy Friday Folks!

Many vapes & accessories. Always happy to help
Hey guys,
Still not feeling great but I improved a bit - also used the rocket once more, dry this time. It warped me again preeetty much.. Not much in it, but hell, I'm SMASHED... These halogen bulbs must be so intense, they really go really deep. Even with these tiny loads, I'm going up to a hi level..
Had it stopped while preheating cause the smell was too good and I could see tiny traces of vapor dancing and moving, illuminated by the light.. Really beautiful.
So I started inhaling - no draw resistance, totally free flow - slow to medium - and this one was so intense, flavorful. Amazing..! Ville told me before, the first hit will already be very strong... You get so many goods out of it at once, it makes tingle your toes. Well, it must be the halogen power, he has his theory about it and I would lie to say I don't totally believe him on this. It's really something else (pre heat time when you can have instant convection units. But I really don't care about this. When I vape I don't wanna hurry anyway. So it's part of a nice and short ceremony. This minute is absolutely needed to prepare myself. So it's all good, no rush, no hurry.) - but this unit is fucking great.

Gonna try to answer some questions now - in a good mood but maybe way to much outer space... Beep beep Apollo calling!:D:argh:

Did you get a very low tolerance or your stash is tight enough....?

Please, try a bigger load...in the name of science!
Sorry mate, not for me this weekend... Already too much effect from these small loads, I couldn't stand it being ill... I'm sure someone will take care of you soon! Hope to see and hear about that too! :)

Everything appears brilliant but 1:20 to get to heat is not what I imagined. So it's not a "nearly on demand convection" vape then? With that long of a pre-heat you will be tempted to do a session instead of just taking a few rips, as everytime you do it it will waste a lot of energy.

That figure is closer to my FW2.1 than to my Zions (I get vapor in 5 seconds from cold with the alpha and closer to 3 seconds with the production unit) I'm not criticizing, just trying to put things in perspective.

As I said, no biggie at all to me, but I can understand that. The Apollo was never meant to be an instant thing, but you can cut the heat up time by half by changing the bulb to higher power one. Not bad! There's also different gens of bulbs available that can suit your needs even better. Very cool I think!

Right, that's the only reason I haven't ordered one; it does look pretty awesome otherwise! If I should need a vape that's great for sharing in group sessions, this one will be at the top of the list.

As for the water discussion: how hot is the vapor on its own? Nano and Firewood stock stems can both give me a bad sore throat, but after vapor-bonging almost exclusively for a while, I do prefer dry (often with longer/bent stems); it seems to deliver fuller, more satisfying effects from less material...

I'd also love to see some size comparison shots with other vapes!

Yeah, with this thing filled up you could sedate a whole football team. I'm a lightweight tho.. But 0.3 in this... I'd like to see that!!!

About vapor heat: having preferably used the long stem, I find some longer slower draws can really raise the temp of the glass that it can get warm on the lips, I def got a strong throat feedback - but this is not of harshness - but intensity of vapor and hypersensitivity of my resp. System being sick. So I think it's all good! ;) can someone chime in again? :)

My biggest hesitation is it looks like the herb chamber could be very hot to handle for removing and reloading, especially for back to back sessions and on the go. Looks like you'd need to wait a bit for cooldown, even if you had a spare chamber to swap in.

Comments from actual owners of this are welcome.
Yep. You are right. It is hot, you should and won't touch it. It sits very nicely, but after usage it stays hot for some minutes.. That's why I asked ratchet for some silicone tweezers or clamps or whatever. I know how to deal with this chamber system, but I too think it could have been easier or safer. Not saying it s unsafe, not at all. There's enough of a dugout, you won't touch it accidentally in normal use. But I do think when you're pretty medicated, there might be some one some time, who grabs the hot chamber by reflex or something or removes the glass tube- which holds the chamber and presses it in hold to the socket - and does not realize that anymore, the hot chamber could roll / fall out... And you could try by reflex to catch it... There you go.
So I'd welcome a good solution for avoiding all that :)

Another question about the herb chamber:
Does it screw shut or have a magnetic lid or other mechanism for keeping the two halves together?

I can see that if inserted into the unit, the glass tube may keep it closed just with a pressure-fit, but is it atually more secure than that? If you keep a spare filled in your pocket, will it not pop open and spill out?
No, it doesn't screw. The top cap just "sits"on the chamber. No magnetic lid, no keeping together but normal physics. But I like the idea of screwing :brow::D
Really, for on the go it would be much safer.. Then again.. Who would kill that much material in THIS... :freak: I digress...

Couldn't this problem be solved with a custom-molded piece of silicone that fits around the chamber, kind of like the silicone session extender on the Grasshopper?
well, there's not much room. The cap is so close to the wood, no chance. The chamber itself has maybe a mm to the wood. Don't think you could do that.

I don't think there is room to fit the chamber into the device with a sleeve on it...and probably too hot for it to sit there or did you mean something else?
You nailed it.. that's what I was trying to say. :)

Just had an idea.....on how to minimize the possibility of touching the hot chamber as well as something to assist with removing it.

It has to do with ......you guessed it - silicone tubing.

Cut some 3/4" diameter tubing that is just a touch longer than the chamber loading cutout. Then slice it open lengthwise and lay it flat.....the silicone is going to want to curl into it's original position - which is good for what we want.

Then cut the silicone to the same radius that exists for the wood cut out on either side of the unit....maybe leave a little extra at the end as a "tab" to tuck into the wood recess.

Then also "hourglass" cut the bottom of the tubing to allow for airflow into the unit on the heater side since Ville has identified this area as an air intake location for the Apollo.

From looking at Vapen00b pics in post 421, it looks like the wood is thick enough at the edges of the unit that the 1/8 thick silicone would probably be able to sit within the recess that exists there and the slightly longer than opening piece of silicone that was cut would be able to use this extra length in order to friction fit against the lip of the wood around the herb chamber.

The natural curvature of the round tubing is also going to want to curve around the herb chamber as well and this silicone protective piece can also be used to pull a hot chamber out of the unit.

Someone with 3/4" medical grade silicone tubing can give it a try and see if it works.

Otherwise I will try it when I receive my unit......which might still be a month or so away. Although I have the 4th purchased Apollo in the second pre-order lot - I've asked Ville to hold onto my Apollo for another month until he releases the Helios since I am also very interested in seeing that vape and potentially purchasing it as well ......and it would sure save on shipping to ship both of them at once - but even with the extra delay......I'll still probably get my order from Ville before my Grasshopper pre-order is shipped

Also, from what I understand - the halogen technology is instant heat with voltage - the 80-100 seconds is just needed to heat the bulb shield and herb chamber up - probably like the same concept as the Sublimator reaching thermal equilibrium with the atomizer heating up.

If a 40 or 50 watt second gen bulb is ever manufactured then I am guessing that after setting your vaping temperature that by hitting the boost for 10 seconds (or whatever much shorter time frame it might take) that the preheat will get you ready for vaping very quickly - although with a higher wattage bulb you'd probably need to use the low temp mapping and set the normal vape power at a much lower percentage in order to get the proper vaping temperature.

Like someone else said, I see this as a high end convection vape that has a fairly quick heat up time (with even the current bulb) but which can be sessioned without over-cooking your herbs between multiple sessions (unlike a Mighty).......and also look far more stylish and upscale with that gorgeous wood body and the illuminated vapour path that you can watch travel up the long stem.

Thanks very much for posting those links, Mangos and Nssl, and of course, "Pictures Of Pot" for filming and uploading the video in the first place

I am looking forward to reading your usage reports in this thread..... and watch out for that hot chamber.....lol :)

Now I am even more excited about the Apollo!

Wow, does it ever look nice in all the pics I've seen......and the hits just keep getting better throughout the video......and who knows if it doesn't even get better with time as someone gets more experience using it.

After all, this proud new owner of their brand spanking new Apollo Venus has just owned it for a very short time......I'm sure that with more usage and greater experience you would only get a better feel for how much boost to use while drawing.

Can you imagine what a 40 or 50 watt 2nd generation type bulb would do through water?

Also the fact that upgrading your unit to a higher power level would be as simple as just switching out a light bulb?

You would have the best of both worlds......a heat soaked stainless steel bulb shield and herb chamber (which retains and conducts heat better than glass) as well as an instant boost to high wattage heat for when you are actually drawing.

With such an "animal" I am thinking that you would hit the boost for a short time and then release and continue drawing in order to cool the chamber down to a lower heat level afterward so that the herb doesn't keep vaping.

I am thinking also that this would help minimize the chances for combustion rather than just holding down a button at a constant set power level for both the heat soak preheating of a glass bowl and then drawing at the same power level after 5-10 seconds of preheat.

With the Apollo, when you release the boost, it just goes back down to a lower vape power level - which would help keep the stainless steel parts heat soaked and ready for the next hard hit through water with the boost button.

If you want to link directly to YouTube to watch the full video rather than a short Instagram clip.......then here is the link.

But the Instagram link is worth a visit too as well since it does provide some nice pictures as well as some size comparisons to other well known vapes.

This vape is a "Mighty Killer" for sure.......it looks like it performs just as well through glass, if not even better, and it also allows for multi-usage sessioning due to the pure convection.

I am also betting that with the narrower body that it would fit better in your hand than a Mighty does. The Apollo Venus is certainly the most beautiful vape on the market right now aesthetically, and now this video certainly shows that it runs with the "big boys"......and perhaps even might lead the pack for portable vapes.

When "Pictures Of Pot" shows up in this thread to fill us in on his Apollo adventures, I would ask him what exactly he is using for his water pipe attachment as the Apollo seems to slide over it very easily and then release easily enough too - yet it is obvious that it sure seals well enough during the hit.

Speaking of which.......I think that I will start my Mighty up and hit that and start enjoying my weekend some more :)

P.S.
Ville - You sure hit this one out of the park!

I sure am glad I stumbled onto this thread early and was able to grab a seat on the early pre-order Apollo flight. I can't wait until I have mine in hand and can say, "We have lift off - we have absolutely no problems Houston". I think that I will have to play Rocketman by Elton John in the background for my first inaugural flight :D

I have a feeling that the line for this vape is going to be building quickly as more and more pictures, videos and user reports start to circulate throughout the global vaporizer market.
