Discontinued Zion vaporizer

nosmoking

Just so Dab HAppy!
Does the glass stem on the Zion ever get really hot near the loaded end? Is it ever too hot to touch? I would imagine that the end that fits into the glass heat chamber would retain some heat, but I was wondering if this is something that beta testers had noticed and if it was ever a concern.

It does get warm but it never gets too hot to touch. Remember there is no conduction with Zion. No heat is generated by the female joint. All the heat is in the air stream, so the hot air traveling through the stem will warm it, but not get it very hot. That is good, as then all the heat is traveling through the load.

Not much, only with a few back to back, long hits at a high voltage, it can be hot but usually it's just a bit warm is all

It would probably be possible to burn your finger if you let the Zion overheat (crank the dial and hold the button for like a minute) put your finger in or on the joint and blow slowly through the air intake. I'm sure the air could get hot enough to burn you. It would be a pretty silly thing to do, but if you wanted to test for maximum heat, you could do it.

Do I need to add "Don't do this at home, kids"?

I think he means the loaded end of the stem, not the female port on the Zion.

But I agree...I wouldn't try that at home. Definitely go to a friend's house so if things go wrong, you can bail. lol

@killick already thought of bag fill ability a while ago some one mentioned it no idea who.
Some nice little fans. One on the left is a 40x40x20 centrifugal.

The only problem I can see is the size of this hole
sSV2Aqi.jpg

I can see it needing to be enlarged. The fans could be mounted in a wooden base with a Zion shaped recess with a stainless male sleeve that fits into the larger intake hole. In keeping with the mobile desktop theme the fans would be battery powered. Easily converted to a plug in 12v for home/car. The hole could even be a small adjustable valve type ensuring your Zion delivers the good with 'effortless versatility' where ever you are.
The Big Lebowski was on again last night and those two words keep appearing in my mind. Thanks @TheDudeNextDoor they have to be part of RBT 'slogan' for the Zion.

Hmmmmm . . . should I break out the only new & pristine screen I have? . . . . or shall I just stick with the same one that I've been using continuously and torching clean for more than than the last 3 months now? . . . I know it sure as hell doesn't look pretty but it still delivers the goods dammit!

Such are the stresses of Zion vaporizer maintenance!

Shiny screen or no shiny screen? Just what is a boy to do?!

Evening all.

Having used many incarnations from the prototype through production I have to agree with @KeroZen. I have mentioned before that the vapor Zions produces has a very distinct full bodied nature. Changing the size of the inlet changed the vapor characteristics dramatically. With that said I have been asking about a balloon system for Zion for sometime. Who knows maybe @RastaBuddhaTao will give it some thought after he gets three stellar vapes in our hands.

@KeroZen ,@MrPeanut and @DieHard hypothetical fun.
The only way to know if bag filling was at all possible would be with extensive research.
Neither water tools or balloons are my choice of weapon but some people like this kind of stuff.
The 'plastic' fans were just examples of how small they are and that one could 'hypothetically' be fitted into a portable base/adapter. I would be keen on seeing the fans already fitted to assisted vaporizers but I get the feeling they will all be brushless and plastic. I may be wrong.
I have no doubt about the inlet hole being enlarged having an effect on the RBT tech's performance otherwise the man wouldn't have made it the size he did.
Just throwing out ideas while we all wait patiently for the first production Zion's to appear.

Yeah, neither of these options are attractive to me either, but others may benefit!

My own pref' with my INH05 is my D020-D without water, or sometimes I make some weak Earl Grey tea with some lemongrass and bubble through that.

I'm thinking of replacing the INH with a single batt RBT as it seems almost ideal for this use.

I'd get the Zion, but it's bigger than I need for home use, as the storage isn't needed (and I'm not in the US).

I did think about that but I don't know how restrictive the flow would be. If it needed to be enlarged then a simple iris type valve could be added so it would still run okay when not filling balloons. Something I am sure will be considered when the time comes. Posted some more about it on the DPH thread. Could the Zion tech. fill a balloon as fast or faster than the 30/60 second volcano?? Once the volcano had warmed up of course.

@phattpiggie The cano has a 110w heater and it heats a very large mass to draw from. This is why it takes a bit to warm up. The cano also has a temperature controller so it can run the heater at 100% power as needed to maintain the temps.

Not even fresh air? Since that's what it's designed for, how could it hurt to try?

That would depend on the velocity of the incoming air and how long it was maintained. A short puff of lung power is fine, but the Zion is not designed to handle the sustained flow and higher pressure from a pump. We have no way to know what would happen to the heater, which could be damaged or dislodged. I wouldn't try it.

@jojo monkey thanks for that. Looked at a video of the internals and you didn't get to see the pump but judging by the size of the silicon pipes it can't be far off the Zion intake. So no re-drilling or valves which is good. Don't like the look of the cheap sponge filter on the fresh air intake side of it.
I have to agree with @MrPeanut it's probably not a good idea to 'jam anything' in the intake.
Gram for gram it would still be interesting to see if the Zion tech. could compete.
It would certainly pick up the balloon folk market. A Zocano would be a whole new concept.
I agree with you @pakalolo on the velocity thing and the not wanting to try it but as you told RBT people will do whatever they want and good idea or not you know someone will be trying it.

Good to know
If I was so inclined I would ramp up the velocity slowly with a valve, but no need if the heater can't handle sustained air flow. I don't have a zion and would not be so inclined if I did, but it's still fun to consider.
