It looks like the inside of the crafty. Heater on bottom chamber on top. The metal ring on the inside of the crafty is a heat sink, IMO the crafty is around 50/50 conduction/convection.

The firefly is a conduction vape but people call it a pure convection. I took mine apart and there is a coil wrapped around the glass crucible heating it up...conduction.

My hope is the MiVape has much more convection properties. I'm just worried about the quartz herb chamber, quartz retains heat longer than glass. :sherlock:

I have yet to have a MiVape in my hand so this is really speculation on my part.
I'm just looking at the design aspect of it. I'm always looking for a truly portable convection vape to compliment my coveted Elevape.:D

I won't know until I have one in my hand!!! I can't wait to try it out!

Yes I will be getting a replacement unit. To try and rule out some issues I was having. I'm not going to give up just yet...
You had to send back the new replacements? I am glad I had VaporNation trade my miVape for the Prima. I know I would be pretty pissed if I got my replacement and the same thing happens. I got those exact same black charred bowls with the first version. I will definitely be waiting to see if it ever gets perfected.

While I'm not sure I agree about the firefly despite the findings (though they do explain a bit, I think there's more going on there... Damn never thought I'd be sticking up for it all over lol far from my favorite at all honestly)... Have you checked out Triihouse vapes Doc? Not sure if you ever swing away from electronics but they're a very pure and very fun convection experience that's difficult to match (ok my beloved Zion could come close... ofcourse Elevape knows what's its doing too brother ;))

Anyway I kind of always suspected mivape was more Crafty/Mighty/Solo style convection conduction mix given its design, albeit plenty powerful and nice with all the glass quartz what have you. Seemed clear to me they were going for the automatic desktop experience, meaning it mixes in some conduction with its convection power to limit learning curves compared to a more manual pure convection on demand unit like the ones mentioned above. I guess that's the case off, which many people seem willing to make, though personally Im not sure I can anymore... so so spoiled now :ko:

Here is some testing I have done...

Things to note: The first test was testing the temp inside the unit after being on for 4 mins and reaching desired temp of 290F. The IR thermometer reached over 513F.

The second test attempted to simulate air being drawn through the intake vent in an attempt to see if the unit cooled the air down inside the chamber which resulted in a temp of 464F

The fourth test tested the temp of the air coming out of the stem of the mouthpiece by blowing air into the intake vents. This resulted in a temp of 130F.

The fifth test tested attempted to test the temp of the mouthpiece after simulating a draw by blowing through the intake vent with the mouthpiece on. This resulted in a temp of 173F

The sixth Test tested the outside of the unit near the heating element, this resulted in a temp of 140, but on higher temps I have read temps of over 190F.

The final test was to look for foreign vapors which are hard to see on camera but they can be seen. (Forward to time 5:35 to see these) These increase when the temp is increased. This is best tested in a dark room with the LED on your phone by blowing through the intake vent. The vapors smell similar to plastic. (however this vapor may in fact be my fault, since I made a mistake of cleaning the unit with the nylon brush assuming it was a wirebrush, It could also be steam from condensation forming inside the glass air path, but if it is steam I'm not sure why it would have such an odor and if it was the nylon from the brush it should eventually burn off, but have cycled the unit @ 430 many times this effect is consistent even here at 290F, It could be a few other things as well, I will know for sure once I receive the replacement unit next week.

Also I would recommend NOT using ISO to soak the mouthpiece, instead I would use 420 soak n' rinse solution. Since it is safe for plastics, you can get it on vaporfections website.

Here is interesting information about how the mivape works... and vaporfection in general

Im kinda frustrated that the mouthpiece has melted, knowing I was inhaling plastic is concerning. The patent states the unit should not get over 500F yet it does. What is going on? Why is it he magic flight launch box didn't burn herbs... or the pax2? there was no melted plastic? what is going on?

Hi, new guy here. As someone who will be receiving one of the 2nd gen miVapes on Thursday, this is alarming. Can you share whatever evidence you have that the out-gassing/odor you are experiencing is due to the mouthpiece melting? Was there visible damage to the mouthpiece? You mentioned some melting of your nylon brush. Are you now convinced that is not the cause of the smell? Did you experience the smell before cleaning it with that brush? Sorry for the barrage. I really, really want the miVape to be my next vape, but if Vaporfection hasn't solved their first-run problems, I'll be returning that box immediately.

Thanks.

I can't prove absolutely that the vapor is coming from plastic, but I know for a fact that the plastic has melted. Because Yes there is visible damage. And I didn't have the unit long enough to become familiar enough with it, before the accidental brush the melting nylon, but even if that problem is set aside the mouthpiece should not be melting, period, for any reason. In my opinion after reading over the patent, I'm not sure plastic was such a good idea to make the mouthpiece or the unit out of, but i'm not sure, I don't know enough about plastics to know for sure that it hasn't melted because I soaked it in ISO 91% and during that process I may have weakened the plastic. I will know 100% once I get the replacement unit.

I wonder if this is just one bad unit with the new version or is there more? I started reconsidering the miVape yesterday and now I am pretty sure I won't be getting this.

I hope it is just a bad unit. I will test the replacement and if it isn't up to par, I'll have no other choice but to look for something else. Which is unfortunate because reading over the patent, the idea is unique and seems like it should be an amazing vaporizing experience, however I am not amazed thus far, for 260$ these issues should not be present. In my opinion I'd rather have a unit or at the very least the mouthpiece made of something other than plastic, but I think if made properly and calibrated properly even the plastic shouldn't be a huge issue.

You are right; if you can see visible damage, that ain't good, no way, no how. I don't know enough about the interaction of iso and plastic to have an informed opinion about that aspect of what you're experiencing, but I do recall reading a warning somewhere that soaking the plastic mouthpiece of my Pinnacle Pro in iso would damage it. So I always just dab the screen with an iso-dipped q-tip and rinse immediately. Thanks for the info and please keep us posted. I'll do the same when mine arrives.

I am soooo disappointed and discouraged to hear that your unit has to be replaced.... AGAIN. I agree with you for the money ( and 4 (I believe its 4) flipping years in development none this should be happening!! ) I am in limbo as Vaporization (where I purchased the mivape) tells me they need to wait and see what vaperfection is going to do when I ask about a refund. This is my first vaporizer and I couldn't be more frustrated. Is this normal? Do other portable vape manufactures go down this path with new product?

My impression is that it is not all that rare for manufacturers to go though a public shakedown period with their first release. IIRC, early adopters identified weaknesses/problems with both the first Pax and the early Pinnacles. In those cases, issues were addresses in subsequent releases (Pax2 and Pinnacle Pro DLX). Let's hope Archaicrevival's setback is just isolated bad luck and not an indication that Vaporfection has yet to work out the bugs. (Hard to believe they'd sink the capital and other resources into a V2 and release another flawed product. Especially when being so open and forthcoming about making things right for all the early adopters.)

Vapornation exchanged mine for the Vapir Prima (same price). I agree too this is wayy to much money. I really want this vape to work out but at $260, I'm not gonna be a "tester" at this stage of the game. I will eventually buy this down the road (have the viVape and dig it), but after I see the improvements made and a sturdy case for it.

Unfortunately it is extremely common, yes. It is still a new industry with new technologies for many if the more complex electronic units. Others, like the various wood and glass vapes, tend to have smoother roll outs but even then still no guarantee... I'd suggest checking out some of the other good options here (many simple, still powerful, and cheap), always good idea to have a backup if you really want to reliably vape, something many quickly learn

Curious, I see the lists of the different vaporizers that people here are using or have used. I don't see many Crafty users. Is there a reason for that?

I mean for me, expensive, constant cooking conduction and slow heat up, nonreplaceable weak battery life, have to use phone or two temps, plastics all over, warranty hassles...

Why mivape is more interesting to me, though it still has some of these issues and others maybe so we'll see... I have used a Volcano though, so I get Crafty/Mighty appeal I guess to an extent, but still the other issues outweigh (also bags arent quite worth it for me personally though theyre fun for sure) and the competition is pretty fierce right now...

@Annie Pepper I have a Crafty and a mighty. Everything @Shit Snacks said I agree with.

The crafty/mighty also works best with less material IMO.

Not to get too far of the thread but I have an early crafty #832. I have 27 hours on it, barely use it. It takes 2:37 seconds to heat to 340F and 4:30 to heat to max 410F (tried using the oil pad with shatter, unimpressive) these heat up times are outrageous! Mighty works great but is too big to just carry around IMO.

I too have my reservations about the MiVape now. I was hoping the MiVape would be a crafty killer.

It sucks hearing about all these problems, but I for one am glad to know they exist so I know what to look for. Thanks to all for all MiVape news, good and bad.

Looking at the inside of the MiVape I wonder why they put the heater so close to the chamber. It looks like it would be better suited having the heater below the coiled glass chamber, but would that make it too hot to hold on the bottom?

We shall all see very shortly I suppose....

I am now expecting the worse and hoping for the best.....:uhoh:

It gets pretty hot to hold as it is once its used for about 6 mins. The temp near the heating elemnt gets to around 190F so its best not to hold it at the back of the unit.

This thread is WAY more civil than the Grasshooper thread. That said, I've been following this thread to see if the mivape would be a good "quasi-portable" convection companion to my daily driver which is the GH.

That said, if you're looking for a GREAT one hitter experience the GH is awesome for that.

It's not a session vape which I'm hoping the mivape could be.

A new product launch is tough stuff so I hope this thread remains this civil. Vape tech is a new and exciting space, we should be rooting for everybody. The successes and failures in the end benefit the consumer
