I just find it easier to use the silicon tubing from the end of my stem going into the downstem of my bong. It also makes me feel SO much better when I get 2-3 stems into my vape sesh, as I know the chances of breaking something are reduced quite a bit.

AGBeer,
OK.

I think I'm going to like this.:D

The Zap arrived Tuesday afternoon (wife called) so I couldn't wait to get home and unpack it. I let it provide aromatherapy for my home office overnight to burn it in a bit. Next morning, I took the diffuser off while I shaved and showered so it could get up to max heat. Filled a stem using the cleverly-named "suck" method and applied to Myrtle.

When I finished coughing I realized I had just had the most enormous headrush in quite some time. :o I tried for another from the same stem but it was much too wispy to do much. But I did get SOMETHING from the second. The third was empty so I tapped it out.

I had to go to work so I stuck the diffuser back on with some fresh oil. Rick, the bottle was unlabeled but it is definitely lemon to my nose - and I like it a lot. Freshens the office, laundry and part of the kitchen nicely. Since one of the larger cat boxes is in my office, it will be staying plugged in 24X7.

The ride in to work (50 min.) was pleasant and my medicine was definitely working for about the same duration of a pinch-hitter load with the same material. I was definitely looking forward to getting home Wednesday night to give Myrtle a real workout. Which I did.

After several stems I got the packing method down (I think) for a good draw but I am not sure I am getting what most others report. I have a Kill-A-Watt so I checked my outlet and I get a full 120+V out of it and the Myrtle is getting 12.2 most of the time. However, I only get one good hit and one crappy one out of any stemload. I think that will be fine as the effect from two zaploads is equal to the 1.5 loads in the pinch-hitter I am used to doing in the morning.

Should I be getting more though? I read people claiming 3-4 hits but I don't see that as possible. Is it different with the 13.5 adapter?

I am fairly certain my pinch-hitter and dugout combo stretches the herbs a bit farther but the jury is still out on that. The effect is definitely superior with the Myrtle without the heavy-lidded head-fog from burning it. I get my general pain relief with a nice overall attitude enhancement.

After Friday night's vaping session ( I started typing this then) turned into an all-day Saturday experimentation session I am still only getting 1.5 good hits per load. Not really a problem as the ABV is not piling up as fast as I guessed it would. I am having a high-school buddy over for the game today, so I will get some good feedback from him. He is a lifetime combuster like I was so It will be educational for both of us.

Anyway, last night I was playing around with Google Sketchup (incredible free 3D modeling program) and worked up a 3D MyrtleZap model (link below). It is not to scale, but now that I figured out how to do the bevels right I will be re-doing it more accurately.

I have used this program to copy my house exactly and do virtual remodeling before ever lifting a hammer. My wife comes up with ideas and I translate them to the screen so we can see what it would look like in 3D with a fly-through. Holy shit, my creative skills are on overdrive while vaked! In addition to the MyrtleZap I designed a cat tree that would look at home in the Jetson's house.

Without further ado, here's the VirtualZap:

(I will be doing the stems and diffuser later too)

Nice comments and review. I like the Virtual Zap. You will get a few more good pulls if you pack a little tighter. We have read, and seen, thanks to VaporHand, the suck to fill method of filling the vapor stem tip. That is a good method but I would pack just a little tighter than we saw on VaporHands video. I would then put some more in the tip by the pinch to fill method and tamp that a little. We always use the pinch method for filling. The tamp is very important because a slightly tighter load will slow the air flow coming through the tip contents. That makes for hotter air and thicker clouds. It does require one to get used to a restricted pull. Slow and easy. Don't try to force it. This technique will also give you 3-5 good pulls as there is more herb in the tip. You do not have to fill it full by any means. Just tamp 'er a little bit more and suck slow and easy after a choo=choo puff or two to get the vapor started. The first pull on a lightly packed load will be great because the air can move around alot of surface area very quickly but after that, there is not much left in the tip to vaporize.

Thanks much for the video. A thorough demonstration of Myrtle and her charms. Just not sure if we should be calling you "Alvin" now?
You guys amaze me with your techie skills via the internet.
Howie, are we going to see a pic of your Zap? I have been making a special effort to get some of our nicest pieces out to FC members. I have got to say that wood is amazing. It is all so different.

One of the things I like most about my PZ is its utter simplicity (=elegance). With that in mind the simplest and most effective loading method mirrors that of a dug out and bat. I fill an empty 35mm film can with my ground herb and just dip the stem and twist. Perfect doses every time.

Getting your draw down is key as well. Unless I am hitting it through a bong, I like to make little 'mini pulls' kind of like if you were trying to stoke a cigar. Pull, inhale, pull, pull, inhale (and repeat)

You may find that you get a couple more (visible) hits this way. The 13.5 will take your weed way farther to dark brown (too hot for some) and remember that your blend might also be the difference in how many 'clouds' you see. I have some mid-level brick that does the trick and is similar to your experiences. I also have some verra killah med grade that seems like it just wont quit.

Also - check your grind. Ive been able to get a couple more hits from a stem that wasnt doing anything by recrushing and sucking it.

Enjoy!

Howie - the 13.5 is only getting me about 1.5-2 good hits per stem load unless I pack it tightly, as Rick said. With the 12v, it could be twice that. I just take it easy on the 13, and don't try to take as large of a pull.

Haha, we both are hitting up Sketchup after getting out MZs. If you look back through this thread, I've done a few Zap related models.

How can I put a screen back in a stem?
Anyone?
I read somewhere on this thread *i think* that you can buy screens at local smoke shop and just cut em to size (a bit bigger for a tighter fit)

If your asking about putting the original screen back in....

Im gonna try to look for that post.

I would suggest email Rick directly for info on replacing the screen. I know it's been discussed in threads so a search might pull it up but I'm sure Rick can help you.

Oh...no need to be poking in those stems really. When done it should tap or easily blow out. If not, hig it again and then tap or blow it out. Some folks crunch it up and reload to vape again as well. Good luck!!

Lo,
Here is a picture of my MZ doing its second most important job - great air freshener!
I have found the shot glass to be perfect for ABV storage.

from the the previos link

" Red - Sometimes I find it an effort washing it after a night of soaking, and blowing the warm water out of it, yet finding some hole still clogged. Is there any great liquid that would help get this little problem sorted out?

1) If you have a steady hand, take out the clips/screen with the tip of a push-pin.

Screens are custom fit, but a steady hand and good eye will get you close enough with head-shop screen (stainless of course) scissors to cut and fit.

The clips are available at an AutoParts shop. I believe it;s .028" clip to fit a 1/4" bore. Spring steel and plated.
"

they was talking about PD so I don't kno the bore of the MZ if you plan on using the clip.

Hope this helps some:|

A shot glass for ABV storage? How do you get it out of the stem without blowing ALL of your stash all over the place? I use my grinder carrying pouch for mine. Im able to wrap the sides nice and tight and usually blow without getting duff all over myself.

It still happens from time to time though... :p

AGBeer,
I wish I had snapped a pic when I first got it because it did not look like this at first.
The strangest thing happened after a liberal application of ZAPolish, a definite image presented itself. Here is a closeup and it is quite clearly a cat's profile. Must be karma since my wife and I have been rescuing, fostering and adopting the little furry buggers for many years.

Tap, tap, tap - lightly. It all comes out without a fuss.

BTW, love your avatar. Is that VaporHand hitting the bowl?
After that video, I wonder.;)

Nice! Too bad it's not of the Virgin Mary, or Rick could have gotten some major press!

BTW Rick - how's that tubing working out? Sorry if it's majorly kinked from me wrapping it up like that. Curious to hear about what someone so used to the regular style thinks about the heat difference and change in pull.

mnmlh,

Do you have a link to the camera case that you got a while ago for so cheap from Amazon? I am thinking about picking one up.

Yeah man, get one. I'm very happy with mine. Already came in handy for traveling and protecting my glass. Plenty sturdy, and would not hesitate to put something really expensive in there. Be sure to move the top foam layer to underneath the cutout section.

Here is is: http://tinyurl.com/ydz795k

Great! thanks.

I am thinking about getting a EHLE bong and am a little confused about all the different connectors. If I was to simply get a "shortie" stem from Rick will if fit in the downstem?

Thanks for the noobie help.

Yeah, just get the blank stem stock from him if you want to connect it to a glass piece with tubing, otherwise just inserting the one you have upside down works great. I have a GonG adapter too, and the stem stock is much better for using with tubing. It's light, can't break and matches the ID of the MZ stem, which gives you better control over the flow.

Damn, that Zap image is pretty sweet. I too am a kittay lover so I can especially appreciate that Zap.

And there is 1 more picture for my Zappics collection :)

Email me about your stem and I will send you another and some screens and clips. The screens go in from the back(handle side) of the stem tip so are very difficult to get out as they have to come out through the handle. New ones can go in from the front if you want. LO was right in that you should not have to pick at the screen to get the contents out. If the contents don't want to come out easy, give it another pull to vaporize all the sticky stuff a bit more.
Howie
Now you know I knew you were into cats. We Emailed a bit when you purchased your Myrtle. Sure as hell I saw that cat......or was it a wolf howling with wind? Or was it.....? So glad you see the cat. Keep up the good work with them.
