I found some old shatter in the fridge, I left bout half a gram in there. It is probably 3 months old BHO...it's so old that it's not as transparent anymore, it's more like budder...it is also no longer rock hard, even after being in the fridge, it is still gooey...

Is it ok to smoke? Why does shatter turn into waxy budder over time?

No smoking is allowed on this forum. :whip:

I've never heard of old shatter giving anyone herpes or causing an extra finger to form on their hand. Don't you have any friends "royal testers" that are more desperate than you are that you can have try it out? :uhoh:

I can't imagine why that shatter wouldn't be as good as the day it was made.

True story. Back in the 70s, weed came with seeds. Lots of seeds. On average, about a third of an ounce was sticks and seeds.

A friend of mine had a farm and I used to save my seeds for him. Of course we never came close to using them all, and I accumulated about a kilo of seeds that I left in a paper bag tucked way in the back of a closet. A few weeks ago, a conversation in IRC inspired me to dig them out and sift them for shake. I recovered 18.1 g of material.

Now this was from the 70s, anywhere from 1977 to 1980. I used to keep seeds from each ounce I bought separate, with a note indicating what the ounce was sold as, how good the stuff was, and the date. (Most of it was supposed to be Oaxacan or Columbian.) The seeds had just been put in baggies and left in the closet. The weed they came from was mostly leaf, not buds, and this was the shake. It looked brownish-green and under my USB microscope I could see that there seemed to be trichomes—not a lot, but some. :o Naturally, I tried some in my FlashVAPE.

The flavour was surprisingly strong. It didn't taste the way I remembered; instead, it had a floral perfume taste, quite different and not unpleasant. The interesting thing was that after about 35 years, I still got a nice buzz from it. I certainly didn't suffer any ill effects.

In other words, the shatter is just fine. Do not fear the shatter. Embrace the shatter. The shatter will get you high. :ko:

That story makes me want to create a shatter time capsule, so in 35 years vaponauts can unearth it and wonder, "wow they used to ingest this weak stuff, everything is heisenberg 99.1% THC now..."

Not commenting on :myday:, but @pakalolo has vaped herb that is older than many FCers. :whoa: Is there a Guinness Record for Aged Weed? :science:

Sounds like it aged nicely... I'm not sure if it's these silicon containers I'm using but any shatter In there turns waxy or crumbly after a few weeks. I has one batch where it altered the taste so much I couldn't even deal with it and just a cooked with it. The stuff I have now is starting to turn waxy but the taste and effects are still there

I have also had questions about old shatter... Concentrates are not always well known in non-mj states, and in my circles, most persons require an education and have never seen an oil rig or a nail before.

Consequently, my source has been sitting on the same stash for months with no other takers. Stuff still works, but I do think some effects have been slightly diminished since I first bought...

I'm still working on this ounce of shatter, here is what is left. Anyways, I keep it in the fridge with just the oil slick pad folded over and its doing fine, BUT, if I start to do more oils, and I just might, I think some kinda containers might be necessary . . . :)
