The Lotus Vaporizer

A little late but... to me the biggest advantage of the Lotus over the gn0me is durability, handling and faster heating times.

When it comes to taste, the gn0me is better for sure.

In terms of controlling temperatures, i can easily adjust in the gn0me but, comparing the heating times, i think the Lotus is faster to change temps.

Other than that, it is pretty much the same. The "crack pipe" problem is as much of a problem in the Lotus, albeit less since it's not glass, the main reason for the association people make is because of the lighter.

I know this because that's the usual comment i get when people see my torch. And i use it with the wood genie and the vaponic.

I like the Vaponic because i can hide it under my palm while heating it to bypass the "crack pipe" look.

ok so once I save money in going to get a lotus and this bubbler http://www.grasscity.com/us_en/weed...-shower-head-perc-diffusers.html#.UngDFRakWfQ

its cheap lots of diffusion and the bowl is a good distance away. They also have a triple chamber version http://www.grasscity.com/us_en/weed...bler-with-shower-head-percs.html#.UngDNRakWfQ

does anyone think three chambers is too much? I don't mind more diffusion but would it be too much volume/drag for the lotus?
i think the 3 chamber is more of a novelty rather than a good piece, it would be difficult to clean and would more than likely break pretty fast but that's just my guess

thanks for the comparison vorrange :)

i rarely vape in puplic, so the crack-pipe problem doesn't really bother me - though when i've been out and about with the gnome i've earned my fair share of enstranged looks ;)

looking forward to try the lotus - should arrive tomorrow...

I posted this glass in the cheap glass thread the other day. Thought I'd give you all a look, still I prefer the 19mm Honeycomb I posted a few pages back also sold by the same vendor on aliexpresss

If you'd like to see the glass better here is a Perc test on Youtube.

Here is the thread where it's being discussed: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/cheap-high-quality-bubbler.5255/page-99#post-483188

After getting the replacement pipe from the Lotus guys and for the last couple of days I am proud to state that I have reached ABV perfection with the Lotus and it's the best looking ABV any of my previous vapes ever produced!

I can immediately tell when the taste begins to turn pop cornish with the pipe and stop the heat right on time... The feedback I get is just amazing. The ABV is like milk chocolate brown and so uniform it makes me smile just by looking at it... I can even one hit it and get uniform brown ABV. Crazy!

The Lotus is the biggest revolution for me after I started vaping! I just can't get enough of it!

Can you show us a video of your technique and resulting ABV? I would love to see if I can get this "abv perfection"!

No special technique here... Maybe I am getting more sensitive to the feedback... :p But it gives a lot with the OG stem, let me tell you!
As for the vid, never managed to show ABV colour with the crappy phone camera... Sorry... Someone else will have to do it. I can't even shoot a proper fogging vid... Bummer! Most vids so far though in the thread show the technique great. It's just what the manufacturer suggest you do, nothing more. Only thing I do these days is lightly pack the load, ver lightly... Not many bits and pieces fly up to the vapor cap this way as well! ;)

Big Torch Tips & Tricks
Some of you know that I use a fairly powerful torch with the lotus. I'm using a 4 flame honest torch. I was actually scorching almost every single bowl for the first couple weeks learning how to control the heat. I'll share some of my experiences.
  • Do not preheat. The best part of using a large heat source is instant vapor. I begin to draw at a very slow speed right before applying the flame. I then accelerate my draw to the desired speed.
  • Max out your draw speed. If this is your first time using a large torch, inhale as quickly as possible without straining yourself. I can get a golden brown ABV in 2-3 hits solely by inhaling as quickly as possible.
  • Next, lower your draw speed. After your are comfortable hitting the pipe at a quick pace, try to scorch a bowl. Slowly lower your draw speed until you get some black bits at the end of a hit. This will establish your 'slow' draw speed. This is why I scorched many bowls. I couldn't get past golden brown and I tried to slow down my draw. The bowl would usually end up a bit black.
  • Vary your draw speed throughout a single hit. Once you are comfortable with high and low draw speeds, mix it up. My personal approach is to draw slow for a 2-3 seconds, then draw quickly until my lungs reach capacity. With in 2-3 hits I'm getting bowls that are milk chocolate to coffee bean in color with no scorched taste.
  • Vary flame distance from plate. I have begun to hold the flame further from the plate, compared to using a single flame torch. I feel that heating the plate with the hottest portion of the cone is too intense. Heating with the bushy tail of the flame provides superior taste up to the golden ABV stage. I do bring the cone close to the plate when taking the last hit from a bowl.
YMMV and it is not recommended to use a large torch with the lotus. I do notice some scorching of the wood underneath the heating plate. You need to remove the plate to see it. Personally I am not concerned, since my myrtle zap has some scorched bits. I've been using it for years and have accepted any risk that scorched wood in an airpath can present. However, there is no visible sign that the wood is contaminating the airpath.

All said and done, I'm going back to the small torch for a bit. I want to master the lotus as originally intended :D

postman came at 9am and brought my lotus, it's now half past ten and i'm grinning from ear to ear :D

nice little device!

thanks so much for turning me onto it naturalfarmer and everybody else! :)

tried two bowls already, first one was 3/4 filled and gave nice clouds, but i heated too much too early and taste was gone immediately... so second try, about 1/3-1/2 filled, carefull with heating and WOW! got 5 or more thick and tasty hits of a really small amount.

consider me impressed, the direct control over the vapor is amazing, this little thing has a lot of potential!

now back to testing :D

Welcome to the Lotus party mate!!!

More and more of my "weed" friends decide to get a Lotus everyday and it's not hard at all when they get to try it! It's hard not to be impressed, especially if you are a seasoned vaporist… I wonder if @Vitolo has one of these! If not go get one Vito and show us how they do it in front of a cam like only you can!!! :D

And a good tip to ABV perfection: Get your flame right! How to do it easily? The distance between the leaf points of the Lotus flower on the hot plate is just about over 5/8". Use it to adjust your flame to perfection! ;)

I must be a complete idiot?
I have 2 SOLO's?

So this is way better than a SOLO?

I guess I'm missing out?

Yeap, you do! :D My poor Solo is gathering a lot of dust these days…

EDIT: And it's not way better on all fronts… Just the ones that matter! ;)

The taste, Flavor of the MFLB made me :puke:

So the LOTUS is the HOLY GRAIL?

Me too my friend! No matter how good I became at hitting the box, tiny specs of finely grind herb always managed to get charred somehow at those little corners…

Don't compare the Lotus to the Box… Not fair… Lotus is miles ahead in every way except stealth when vaping in public and when it's very windy! We still need a classic tobacco stem to cover that stealth front imo… Maybe one day.

You should only compare the Lotus to the best convection vapes out there, even desktops. Conduction vapes are off my list for some time now! :puke:

And yes, for me, I believe it's THE HOLY GRAIL of vaporizing right now! Tempt me to compare it with anything, please… :smug:

I already had my answered typed for you… :p

"OK… You mean if it gives better flavors? I am pretty sure that's what bothers you the most… :p I have not tried either the Cloud or the LSV cause I want to keep it portable and pocketable but I don't see any reason for them to give better taste than the Lotus or the Solo assuming we are hitting them dry. If they go through water I am pretty sure you lose some flavor with every vape!"

i have a cloud and i would say that the taste with the lotus is slightly better ;)

the cloud has an more exact/stable temp control, thus is more reliable in reproducing the same exact vapor-quality time and again, and vapor might be a little bit thicker with the cloud (though only marginally, the lotus produces nice thick vapor)

in any other aspect that i can think of the lotus is the winner for me ;) but of course this is highly subjective and a matter of preferences, there just simply is no holy grail of vapes, just a bunch of very very good vapes that all have their own characteristics!

Right on! And the reasons the Lotus is the Holy Grail for me and not a Cloud or a Sub or a Herbalizer or an LSV, is mostly because I want my vape with me wherever I happen to be and want it to be built like a tank and never break. I want a tool, not a gadget that will leave me vapor-less when I need it the most and will have to pay an arm and a leg to send it in for fixing if it breaks… Style matters too for me. And the feel… I rarely leave the Lotus of my hands when watching a movie, even when it's empty. I like to caress it like you caress a tobacco pipe even when you are not inhaling. Can't beat that feeling… :D

Those gadgets are very expensive as well for most people, including me and I just can't justify the costs when a Lotus can perform the way it does…

So you are calling me a complete idiot?

"Yeap, you do! :D"

That would be "Yeap, you are!" bro…

You know you are not… I like you a lot!

I can see clearly now the smoke is gone...
Um, while I agree with your sentiments and love the fact that you are happy with your Lotus. That doesn't make all other vapes "gadgets". My LSV for example has never failed me with HEAVY use. It can do things the Lotus cannot do and was only 189$. Not THAT much more than the Lotus kit.

I have a custom room just for vaporizing.
To vape in public would ruin my experience.

As a medical marijuana patient I may have a different view point than you may have.
I'm sure the LOTUS is a good vape for the Recreational User.
I was curious since you were promoting it so zealously!

No hard feelings!

Should have used the words "electronic gadget" since the lotus is a gadget as well (A gadget is a small[1]tool such as a machine that has a particular function, but is often thought of as a novelty. Gadgets are sometimes referred to as gizmos.)

I didn't say it as a negative. I had and have many electronic gadgets including vapes. The thing is they all can fail you eventually and leave you with cold feet. Even the trusty Solo or the LSV or a Sub no matter how well built they are, isn't it so?

I also use weed and the Lotus for medical issues… Pain, anxiety, stress, you name it! Why would you have a different view point?

You think I act zealously? Haha, when I fall in love with something I like to talk about it all day long, just like you do with the Solo…
