Cannabis and dreaming / Vaping and sinuses

I have definitely heard of/ and experienced the lack of dreams associated with mmj. Have you ever though that your sinus problems might be because you are allergic to mmj ? Turns out, I am. I have hay fever allergies and it turns out mmj affects me also. In vape or smoke form.
Won't stop me from Vaping tho. I do saline sinus rinses and hot menthol vapor seshes to take care of it.

Could be that I'm allergic to MJ but what makes me think I'm not is the fact that after having a 2 week T-break i was still having issues with my sinuses (although this might not have been long enough for my body to sort itself out fully)

I have found recently that fresh sage, thyme, mint and lemon thyme help relieve me when the problem occurs.. I normally make a tea and inhale the steam from it, or do a saline rinse with the water once is has cooled. Sometimes I will even put the fresh herbs straight into one of my vapes and just inhale the vapor.

One things for sure the fresh herbs definitely help whichever method i use to ingest them.

And in relation to the dream thing.. T-breaks definitely make me dream much heavier like i used to.. During the two week break i did recently i was having some of the most vivid dreams I have had in years :leaf:

i most definitely feel that mj affects dreams. im at the end of a two week T-break at the moment and have had more dreams in the past two weeks than i have had over the past year. while using mj, i rarely have dreams whatsoever but during the past two weeks i can fall asleep for just an hour or two and still dream. i've spoken with a few of my others friends who consume and they have also experienced dream suppression.

I find this true for me as well, cannabis vaporizing inhibits my dreams. But i think we have more intense dreams because of inhibiting them for so long, because i don't remember dreaming so vividly before starting to use MJ.

I also think smoking inhibits more somehow because, when i stopped smoking and started vaporizing, i had an identical dream avalanche and i only stopped with tobacco and combusting, i didn't stop vaporizing.

On the subject of dream inhibiting caused by MJ use, i must also add something i wanted to run by you guys and see if it is just me or others report the same:

If i don't vaporize at night, i wake up much fresher and without heavy eyes and sometimes i dream as well. If i vaporize, this won't happen, and if i vaporize a lot, the mornings are even more difficult and i have a harder time starting my day in a productive way.

So, this gives me one hypothesis to test: When do i need to stop vaporizing to wake up fresh and motivated? I'm thinking that 3hours would be enough for the high to subside.

@griff

I have been getting into vaping 'smoking blends' along with my herb (in spliff ike blends) and the effects have been great. Less sinus problems in general, which is awesome.
coltsfoot - helps your lungs when smoking, i dont know exactly what it does but there isn't as much 'burn' when there would be normally
mugwort - will help in general with dreams (actually works for me i think. since i added it to my spliff mix (which i only use during the day) i have woken up remembering dreams i had the night before - which hasnt happened to me in ages)

adopted a 'relax aid tea' (has camomille, peppermint, catnip, blackberry leaf, licorice root, valerian root, skullcap herb) and i has definitely made my vaping experience better in general

I vaporize late at night (around 11pm), and have noticed that I never remember my dreams at all the next morning. I have also been waking up earlier than usual, (7am) when I usually wake up at 9am..

I don't need weed to help me sleep. I could sleep forever without it, I just choose to vape at night. When I don't vape, I definitely get weird fucked up dreams.

I am also curious about how not getting long REM (long term) will affect our overall health? I am thinking of maybe just vaping during the day and not at night to see what happens and if it changes anything..

Cannabis has been known to affect dreaming cycles. I have been vaping multiple times a day, with maybe 3 days of no using, for the last 8 months now. I used to have crazy, wild, vivid dreams pretty much every night.... and in the same vein, crazy, wild, vivid nightmares. I personally don't mind not dreaming anymore. I might have a dream a week that I remember as opposed to 5-7 a week.

On the grogginess... I don't find it to be that bad compared to smoking, and usually don't notice it unless I've had a heavy session or had some edibles as well. I did end up getting that for a while, but I realized that me going to sleep so late wasn't helping me at all. A change in sleeping schedules made me feel better. And so does a cup of coffee, if you're into that kinda thing :)

Even if i skip my night cap sesh i still dont dream. I have seriously no joke maybe 1 dream a yr that i can recall. I actually had a dream.that i could recall about a month ago and it was my first one in probably 2 yrs. I have been like this since i started using mj about 12 yrs ago i have tried supplementing with melatonin and even in high doses i dont dream i just wake up a bit groggy.

My dreams got dull and mostly I don't remember anything of them even if I had any. Sometimes I remeber them, they!re dull, the oposite of vivid/crazy. When T-break, vivid/crazy dreams start in few days with more tendency to lucidity and better remembering of them. Seems common effect. I don't like complete T-breaks, i moderate, so don't even know when vivid dreams get to normal.

I have been changing my sleeping habits, before i did 2am-4am and i woke up 10-12am.. Now i go to sleep between 12-1am and i wake up at about 8:30. The difference in energy throughout the day is much higher but when i do a session before sleep i wake up feeling tired.

I am positive that there is health problems with skipping REM sleep.
During your sleep is when your body regenerates among other things.

I think that for me, since i am easily distracted and loose focus, a good night sleep is essential for a productive day. And the hours that i go to sleep as well.. If i sleep 10hours but i do it during the day i dont get that much rest comparing to a usual sleeping schedule.

Perhaps, the best time to vaporize is at the end of the day.. Like 5-6pm (420 anyone? :D), and at night, an after dinner session but no night cap, unless you need it to sleep.

One thing i found was when i started using daily again just after the 2 week break, I found that the first few days back vaping i was still having very vivid dreams despite me being back on the vape daily again. It took at least a week on the vape reguarly / daily before i began to not dream / not remember my dreams again.

The effects seem to be worse, as you continue to bypass REM sleep. After a little search i found two quotes that sum up REM sleep and deep sleep.

" Deep sleep is a time when the body repairs itself and builds up energy for the day ahead.

Just as deep sleep renews the body, REM sleep renews the mind. REM sleep plays a key role in learning and memory." - taken from http://www.helpguide.org/life/sleeping.htm

I think we need to rephrase the question here.

Has anyone who smokes/vaporizes everyday maintained the dreaming patterns that were normal for them before MJ use? And, if you have, what did you do different?

Yesterday i tried not vaping before bed but i had a long day and wasn't able to resist. I will try doing it today and see what happens but i am guessing i will have to do this for a few days first.

EDIT: After browsing the web, i found a forum of lucid dreamers talking exactly about this. They mentioned in a thread stopping 4-7 hours before going to bed.

From talking with people, I found out I dreamed a lot more than them... like 3x more. Not anymore... I'll trade some night time sillies for no pain, though.

(Didn't mean to quote your post, Puffers, sorry!)

I am sure it wasn't your intention but this is more than night time sillies... it is an important part of your function as a human being. Dreams are a sign of a proper REM cycle it seems.. If you have no choice but to medicate because of pain, there are alternatives to enhance REM in your sleep patterns.

I did not pay much attention on this before, because i didn't care and because i wasn't aware of the array of problems that can arise by messing with your sleep.
I am starting to think that part of what i thought was bad about MJ usage or MJ abuse, the memory problems, the tiredness in the morning, among other things, are in fact a consequence of lack of REM sleep.

Thats an interesting delineation and you may be onto something with that. Maybe i naturally dont attain REM very easily my wife has crazy dreams all the time sometimes several in one night. Even when i had to take a t break i dont remember having an increase in dreaming/REM sleep.

Is it possible you don't recall your dreams instead of not having them? There is a "REM rebound phase" that happens when people spend a long time bypassing this part of sleep.. it happens to MJ users but also to people who take anti-depressants and other medication for mental disorders.

Today i experimented having my last puff at 8pm and i went to bed at 12.30am and i slept, i dreamed and i recalled my dream.

Isn't that generally the accepted idea? Loads of times when I talk to friends and the subject comes up, there's someone who says "well I didn't have a dream last nigh- well, I didn't remember it is what I mean." I think the vast majority of your dreams aren't remembered.

Anyways, as per the "nighttime sillies" reply, I think I will need to look into REM enhancing stuff. My insomnia is bad enough that I permanently have Ambien on order whenever I go to the hospital, however I would rather not have a 'script for any sleeping stuff... in the ever-so-loving words of my doctor... "nothin' a couple hits of kush can't help you with." ;)

Melatonin is a pretty recognized natural sleep aid
you can get it as a dietary supplement to take before bed.

I have been taking in for a few days now and it seems that i have been sleeping 'more soundly' and definitely wake up more easily. This is cconsidering that I haven't changed anything else in my routine.

might be something worth looking into

It is, but Puffers said he NEVER has dreams, even when he does a T-break. I am by no means an expert in the matter, just curious about it, but it seems the usual reaction in a t-break is start to dream crazy vivid dreams, sometimes nightmares even.

I have been reading about this in a forum about lucid dreaming as well, and there are many MJ users, and they all report the same thing:

If they want to dream and recall their dreams with the most efficiency, they usually stop MJ alltogether or do weekly t-breaks (3-5 days off) or they stop smoking 4-7hours before going to bed. This, of course, coupled with the "go to bed early/no tv or computer 1h before bedtime/no sugary or caffeinated drinks" but this is common knowledge.

Jdog, if you vape before bed, no need using melathonin. Too much melathonin will make you bypass rem sleep and you only have that deep slow wave sleep which rests the body, but not the mind.

The recalling of dreams is affected because MJ, as we all know, affects short term memory. The dreaming itself starts to diminish until is mostly suppressed because you have no REM phase anymore, which is when you dream.

Quetzoacoatl, one more thing, from what i read (please read more about it), REM sleep, as other phases of sleep is repeated throughout the night, intercalating between them, but it usually does not happen in the beggining of your sleep. And there is usually a time before waking up where you are more frequently dreaming. There was a suggestion among the many posts i read about extending your sleep time a little longer, you will make it easier to access that REM stage.

I do recall having vivid lucid dreams as a child but yes very very rarely do I have a dream that I recall. As a side a note I have terrible short term memory, not just from MMJ use it also runs in my family we are intelligent but spacey. My wife makes fun of me abut it to no end and i find it really easy to tune people out when I am focused. My grandfather a very smart man who owned over 30 different businesses and at one point helped design some equipment that went to the moon, designed software, brokered stocks, was a pilot, etc. Would drive his jaguar to work, take the bus home, wake up the following and not remember where his car is if you look around his home there is sticky notes everywhere with reminders to do trivial thing like exercise or brush teeth. My mother is pretty similar though less severe (no sticky notes yet :) ) she has two master degrees and we have an ongoing joke about how if you call for someone's birthday within a week of the day passing your doing fine haha. Both my mother and grandfather use cannabis fairly rarely my grandfather hasn't in years and my mother was maybe semi annually I would guess until some more recent injuries. I am going to ask if they have trouble recalling dreams also maybe it's all connected.

Sorry for all the details seemed relevant given the topic

From what i been reading about adhd and other disorders, i don't know if you have any of them but it is likely there is some adhd or something similar going on in your family. This kind of stuff is usually genetic. A few months ago i had a little talk about it with my mother and it seems there are other examples in my family as well.

I must say that for the past week i experimented only vaping 4-7hours before bed and never waken'bake and i must say the results were impressive considering i done it only for 3 days. I slept better, functioned better during the day and my highs were much more rewarding and higher.

vorrange,

I got paid to kill people.
The reason that people don't remember dreams/don't dream when they have smoked or vaped is because weed really messes up REM sleep. You get less REM sleep; REM sleep is the very deep sleep stage that dreams occur in. This is pretty much the only negative side effect of weed.

Edit: Damn, I got beat to the punch with my explanation haha.
