This was from early this week, on our 19th wedding anniversary. A nice morning present for us. And a great little overnight trip to celebrate.

Happy anniversary Tom and Pammy , I wish you many more . You make a great couple ! Good karma all around .

Thanks, to all folks who comment on my work. These are one offs. #1, #2, #5 in order.
( many other previous bowls ;) )

#2 shows the 'little bowl' design. Gonna keep the fine stuff, that always falls to the bottom? (for yourself) :brow:

Kept doing that for some of the other bowls. PD innovation? Who cares, it's cool.

Folks have asked about Billy Bowls (made by a neighbor business in Oregon)... I might bring my own version back. The Maple examples, are close to something, I would put my name on.

I really like those Tom, I wish they were available... but i still love my porta billy!

The porta billy is definitely awesome; very well conceived and works great with the straw sucking technique.
The billy bowl is great - I'm lucky to have one, I couldn't imagine a better stash bowl for home use until I saw what's going on in PD land as of late...
really gorgeous bowls Tom... and happy anniversary.

I REALLY Love your work Tom...so Beautiful!

So, I've had my lovely PD a bit over a month now, & I've a few things I'm curious about w/it...
1st, because it went cross country w/me just after getting it, I was curious as to the effect of moving air on them. You guys kinda touched on it w/ceiling fans. But, I actually felt, in moving car w/Windows open, it runs hotter! Kinda like it behaves like its being constantly being used/hit. I was actually afraid it would be bad for it. Should it be protected from that?

Also, when you do a hit, I saw mentioned that filled stem can be heated 10-20 secs before drawing. But, It's not necessary. My Question is, what do you do w/unfinished stems, between draws? Leave them in, to stay hot or take them out to cool down till you're ready for the next draw? If you can leave them in hot, how long is too long? Does herb degrade in anyway over time? & If you forget a few minutes...is it spent? OR, is more wasted by continually cooling & reheating the same herb?

You guys should do a "Top tips for using your new PD" pinned to the beginning of this thread. I'd NEVER want pics, contests & other FUN to end, but there's allot of reading to go through to get to the meat of things here! LOL

For me, as a LONG time bong user who NEVER vaped until I received my PD, my TOP suggestion to those new is Slow Down & Back Off your draw! It's part of what I've come to love. You cannot rush it! Make it a "ritual"! Relax, Slow your breathing, empty your lungs & Pull as Slow & Light as you can, allowing more air in the side of you mouth as you pull, if you need to. Until you want to stop! Hold on & release just as slowly!

My Son, got a MagicFlightBox after I got this. Because of course he'd "be better at choosing 'em"! NOT...he's having buyers remorse & Uses MINE all the time! So haha! lol

Thank you again Tom & Pam for this great product! My friend, in Colorado, is camping out at the post office waiting for hers she ordered while I was visiting. Since Mine left w/ME back to Maryland! I'm worried she may need therapy soon!! LOL

I'm working on ideas for the contest. And may attempt to enter.
and I've posted pics of our Motorcycle Trip here, on G+, if you wanna see!

Thanx again for all you help & Guidance here folks!

MagicBartender, glad you're enjoying the new toy!

This may have to do with a higher voltage being drawn from your car. I'll wait for other more knowing users/the manufacturer but I recall that the PD may draw more juice (in the form of voltage?) when being powered via the car adaptor.

I opt to remove the stem in between hits. If you leave the stem in the PD while its not being hit the heat obviously doesn't stop. Just as an example you can take a fresh (green?) stem and place it in the PD for 30 seconds or so, without taking a hit you'll probably still notice some browning upon removal.

I hope you consider using a bong or bubbler with the PD if you haven't already. Water-filtration can make the vaporizing more comfortable and fun IME. Take a look at this for an introduction if necessary: Vaporizing with a Bong or Bubbler

Keep on enjoying MagicBartender!

P.S. nice pics!

Tom those jars are awesome. I would pick one up for sure, as they'd be much more elegant than dealing with my current snap lid ensemble. Great loading surface on top, that's the killer feature for me. Oh yeah, and they're beautiful visually.

I like the bike pics. There are some roads around here you would really enjoy. Prescott would be a great central location for a week of riding... :2c:

Heating 101 : The PD has a 20 Ohm, heavy duty resistor, that's the heater. Resistance is fixed. With all other factors held steady Voltage controls heat output. At 12V the 'draw' is 7.2 Watts... at 12.8 Volts (a 12 Volt car battery) you are running about 8.2 Watts and when alternator is running you can figure about 13.5 Volts (or better) we get about 9.1 Watts... Running a unit at those higher voltages will make the unit hotter. My mention of wind and cooling effect, ie. air conditioner or open windows in a car, helps keep these higher potential temps a bit under control... The PD is set, Voltage and other conditions will change the heating.

Slow down, is a great suggestion to any new user. The harder you draw the more packed the material becomes and the harder it is to draw...

Pre-heating the bowl is something we do. While this is a convection vape and you can insert and draw heated air from the heat exchanger immediately. the metal bowl is at room temp for a short time. You will get better performance letting the bowl com up to temp, IMO 5-10 seconds before starting your draw.

Remove the bowl between draws? Pammy and I don't agree on this one... She always removes, she cares more about the taste of the stuff than I do ... I leave mine in, and may go half an our or more (lots more) before returning to it. I have returned to bowls left overnight and gotten something... never sure if anything was lost, as it's a cashed bowl, left from the night before.

This is my theory. You can insert a fresh bowl, leave it, it will get somewhat browned on the bottom and the bowl will heat to operating temp, but without drawing heated air through and out of the system, the active ingredients and a bit of local vapor have no place to go. A bit of hot air will rise of course, but it's like expecting a draft in a blocked chimney. With a load in place it's like the damper is closed... Of course flavor degrades with time...

I can completely back this up as I have experimented with this as well. I have left stems in over night and during work and have gotten good hits afterward. I thought I was going to be called crazy.

Mummified PD. :D

Bitch'n bowls Tom! I agree with drewper, that recessed top is brilliant, and looks great for prep work. I also like the #2 one with the little hole in the middle, and I would be interested to see if most of the pollen collects there. Do those lids have like a tapered seal, or is a seal not a good idea in case the wood expands or something like that? That maple looks beautiful, almost hard to look at since I am currently waiting on one of the maple P-Ds

I've been visiting these forums a few times a week and often daily when I'm looking for new units. I read just about everything but seldom post. I ordered my first PD recently and I'm psyched to cut some packing tape! I've told a lot of people about this project because I think it's awesome a team like Pam and Tom (my aunt and uncle are named Pam and Don btw haha) are taking the time and care to do this right. I'll post my notes from the first session once she arrives.

In the meantime, I'll chime in where I can (in-between bags from the zephyr)

Cheers
