Why are grinders so crap?

Aiiiight folks.

I have a question. Why do grinders not have more teeth to grind up your dried herb into smaller particles? My grinder- admittedly a pretty cheap one, free with my WISPR- only has 4 teeth on the top and bottom respectively. It works, insofar as it grinds my bud into little nuggets, but it strikes me that a grinder with more teeth would do a much better job and produce something closer to a 'powder'- or at least nice, fine sand-like grains. Even the expensive titanium grinders only have a relatively small number of teeth. So my question is, why don't grinders have a much larger number of smaller teeth- not so small that they would be liable to get bent if they hit a big bit of stalk or so that your bud would get stuck in them- but I don't see why they can't be significatly smaller than they are on most grinders. I even read a post on here the other day by someone saying that he ground his bud first, and then used scissors to get it finer! Why the hell should he have to do this? If you have to use fuckin' scissors to cut up your bud after you've ground it, then that's surely an indication that your grinder has failed abysmally in its job?

So... why not have multiple rows of nice, fine, razor-sharp, needle-like teeth in grinders rather than a few big, blunt clumsy things that are in mine, and as far as I know, most grinders?

I believe the grinder that you can get for the MFLB has more teeth for a finer grind. And do you have a 4pc or 2pc grinder? Cause if you turn a 4pc upside down and grind that way the herb wont be able to fall threw so it will grind up a little more.

I guess smokers don't want it too fine. especially with joints you don't want it to get trough the roachpaper, and around here still almost everyone smokes joints, mixed with tobacco tough so then it matters less of it's very fine, but not necessary.

I had a grinder wich produved a very nice fine grind, it was a siliconegrinder with pyramidshaped teeth, wich got very close to eachother. with coffeeshopweed you had an almost sandlike grind after only a few turns, my own harvest(a little more moist) took more turns but also got to a very nice fine grind.
but, one of the 2 halfs rolled into the water, and that one was one of the last 2 the headshop had, and they couldn't get a new supply of them.
one of my friends still has the larger version of that one(wich is the largest grinder I've ever seen I think)

My 2 pc SC has 24 teeth (total, 12 on each half) and I don't see a need to ever need another.

Get an electric grinder. Why do you want it so fine? It seems to just fall through screens and be too dense to vape well when its too fine. If the herb is very dry it will break down easier and into smaller pieces.

I use two grinders at the moment and have used a alot over the years. As a smoker i was able to make near cigarette type compact spliffs(dont ask we developed what we think was a unique roll but its so simple others must have realized too) so prefered very fine grind and used a two piece which did exactly that.

As a vaporist on the other hand i dont like my herb too ground up and use a space case (12 and 16 teeth) which leaves the little nugget situation i guess, this i find is the best way to vape as the herb ends up as fine dust by the time i finish anyway. the grinder also collects kief which is a huge bonus lol.

My question is why do you feel it needs to be so fine?

I love my braun coffee grinder :p after breaking 2 cheap ones i spent 6 bucks more got a better one, and I Have had it for nealry 10 years now! :p instead of one every year or 2!

also for hand grinders, we have a great thread on them started somewhere already! Space case gets my vote... the medium 2 piece :)

@technique: I've had plenty of joints that ended up cigsize too, not mixed with tobacco tough but I guess I could do that too with tobacco that's fine enough(I prefer rolling with the dry fine tobacco on the bottom of the pouch)
that unique roll, was that by any chance inside-out? (around here also called 'gevlagd', since the leftover paper kind of looks like a flag)

@JJ. The really simple answer to your question of why no more teeth? If there were more teeth - and this is talking about grinders in general - there wouldn't be any room to put the bud!

Although we did master the inside out aswell the technique was just the way we moved our fingers, it wasnt how big it was it was how compact the niside was and how neat and straight the paper around the outside was. very tight roll.

I just bought a 2 piece Space Case and I LOVE it. It gets my herb ground very fine, exactly what I need.

I'm with turk, I have a 4 piece and I love it. A large amount of teeth in the grinder, too. All of the 'dust' falls through a screen for safe keeping, so that's nice.

I got a ssv medium size 4 peice and it works well. Plenty of teeth, they feel sharp and do a nice medium grind. The bottom chamber has rounded edges for easier kief removal. Sometimes, rather often, i do have to dig out a few pieces of greens that get stuck and do not grind under the magnet, but no big deal. If i need a finer grind ill gently rub the ground herb against the screen in the second chamber, be careful as stems seem to snag the screen when doing this. Also i get lots more kief when i do this.

just buy a good metal grinder...not a plastic one, or tiny cheap metal one.

there are plenty of great grinders out there. I have a sharpstone that works wonders. 4 piece with kief chamber and if I want a super fine grind I just take the kief chamber off, turn it upside down with the top 3 pieces intact and grind upside down so it grind itself over and over without falling down into the other chamber.

then turn it back over onto the kief catch, screw it all on and there you go all the kief drops down through the screen and your very fine bud stays in the 2nd chamber.

get a better grinder. i have a 4 piece grinder from my local headshop that has 13 teeth on top and 11 on the bottom and it leaves my herbs fluffy and not shake like, which is the way i prefer. it also collects kief very well.
