Arizer Solo

OhTheAgony

here for the chicks
I'm starting to feel that I'm the only one in here, but I still f*cking love mine.

I wish I could try a few others though, I'm getting curious of what you guys are smelling and tasting.

Only 10 days I've got my Solo, use it everyday and I love it !!
No strange smell for me, and I look often how is the ceramic bowl, and everything's OK.
I just wish having a second one, because the battery is not enough for a complete day, and it takes a long time to charge.
I use it very hard since 10 days, and I wanted to know: how many times you have use your Solo before seeing the first flaking on the ceramic bowl ?

Still no smell or flaking for me and I STILL LOVE MY SOLO!!!! I have been impressed with Arizer's response based upon what I've read. The AC adaptor and auto charger are supposed to arrive today. Has anyone used the AC adaptor yet?

Great Scott!
I still love mine and have no problems, its just causing stress/anxiety worrying that it will fall like the others :/

OK disagree with me, I can't force you to be right
:2c:
Been using mine steadily for two months now. Several times a day, usually "out and about". No smell or flaking issues. Stems are a snug fit so the draw feels a lot like the PD unless I pull the stem up slightly to increase air flow.

Got mine from Rockwise. I wonder if the "problem" units came from so-called "unauthorized" resellers? Also when were they purchased? Are we talking about a single bad production run or an issue that went on for some time?

I can't believe the hits this thing can lay down, ya I'm very happy with mine. It just makes me think the flaking problem is not so small a number , why would you redesign rather then replace the ( very small ) number of effected ones, the new coating vendor as claimed would remedy it right, so Arizer would only be replacing the few that made it out. I'm not bashing Arizer but something don't add up, will they be using a new coating vendor or using a stainless bowl, or did I misread them emails.

Valid point. If the problem is this batch or 2 of solos, why not replace them with the new ones that should not suffer from the issue?

I've now ran maybe five or six bowls through my new warrantied solo and the taste has died down enough that I'll continue using it happily. You don't taste it until the bowl is mostly finished. But now I'm in a similar boat as CDS with having my unit been replaced so graciously, but really just wishing I had my first one replaced with their _new_ design and not at risk with the old design again. I'm very worried about my new one just flaking up like my old one, and as much as a little metal sleeve would satisfy me I wish I could of just waited until the new, stainless steel only bowls were out. Let us know how steve responds to your request to swap your warrantied one for a new one, I would do the same. However, my alternative plan is to sell both my solos for like 150$ and pick up the new model effectively for free, while giving deals to others. I would be selling them to my friends who have been listening to me talk about the solo chipping drama. None of my 'combustion' friends are at all concerned about the chipping ceramic, as compared to their resin filled pipes they scrape away at with paper clips, and then re-consume the resin. They also know the full story and think its a great deal.

Also, my entry in the horrible and depressing chipping solo photo contest (My old unit, I still continue to use regardless)! It has not chipped any more over the passed few weeks as I have only been using a loose stem carefully. I think IF you have a unit with a coat not stuck on there so great, a snug stem will be the main culprit in the damage (Though it still seems to happen to people using loose stems gently).

Starting to think that the taste everyone is experiencing is just hot air..literally off of the heating element.

Vaporizers with exposed ceramic heating elements have a certain smell and taste to them, some might not have been able to notice them because of experience with longer vapor path.[Whip based vaporizers with vinyl tubing allow time for the vapor to cool and etc] I remember being able to smell the heating element of my VB when it would heat up...because the solo has such a short vapor path its more noticeable and "in your face".

I'm thinking a great way to lessening the flavor would be running it through a water filter or providing a longer vapor path[tubing or a long glass stem]..i would love to hear some more experience from other members who actually have the solo.

As far as redesigning the bowl, its possible that the solo already had improvement developed for the next future model, but since the chipping because an immediate issue they rushed it and put it in queue.Vaporizers such as

MFLB
ExtremeQ
VaporBros
Vriptech
Supreme

have all had revisions and improvements added on after initial launch, it just helps the product adapt to the needs of the market and consumers. We want solo's that don't chip..so they are adding the stainless steel bowls to the new units. As for replacing units a small amount of units, i'm not too sure on what Arizer..but so far they are taking care of their customers so its not so bad.

I've thought carefully about these smell and potential cancer-causing issues, and I've decided to make a huge sacrifice.

I'm ready and willing to save you all from bad smells and cancer. Just send me your Solos and I will do all your worrying for you. Don't forget to include the stems and accessories.

I know it's noble of me, but really you don't have to thank me or anything.

Glad to hear your still happy with yours as well Kelbow (as well as all the others replying, it's nice to have some positive vibes in this thread as well next to everything that's going on here). And yeah, sometimes I do miss my SSV :|

Not sure if the taste/smell thing has anything to do with being picky or sensitive though. I know from experience I have an above average sense of smell & taste and I can honestly say mine is free from smells or tastes that shouldn't be there.

Wow, the lighting probably doesn't help, but that bowl looks terrible Willeh. I couldn't imagine, apparently. Can't you just grind it off with a dremel or likewise for now at least?

You kinda put to words what I was thinking Blackbur, and as it happens I am a former SSV owner (whip reference). But, I don't keep up with everyone but it seems at least Charlie and Stu have plenty of experience with different vaporizers. And I'm also really sure my sense of taste and smell is very very sensitive, which can only lead me to conclude that there must be a noticeable difference in quality between one Solo to another. I think that's something the good folks at Arizer should look in to at least.

As far as the reference to the two years of research and testing of the Solo before it came out, as was mentioned several times in this thread now, can anyone here confirm that that is anything else but pure speculation?

The Vriptech VHW had some initial problems, but none of the other models you list had a defect that needed to be addressed. Making improvements or adding features, over time, is common with a lot of products, but shouldn't be equated to a problem that needs fixing. This issue is like the Cloud's heat sensor, which was too easily displaced and had to be relocated. The difference is that the Cloud's problem was discovered during beta testing.

I'll be careful with my wording on my future posts.

Respectfully, I don't see the need for your sarcasm, and I don't think you're using it just to get a laugh. Some people are affected by faulty merchandise which came dearly. I'm glad you're happy with your Extreme Q and it has apparently been trouble free, but the Solo is not so similarly lucky.

A Legend in my Own Mind
Since Arizer seems to be listening, here is my wishlist for Solo 2.0

If Arizer is going to a stainless bowl but was concerned initially about the blueing of the metal in the current model necessitating the use of the ceramic coating, they should consider using black stainless steel like the PD does.

Also, why not put in some higher mAh lithium cells, it currently uses 2200mAh cells and up to 3100mAh are redily available... that is a whopping 40% increase in run time, with not much more cost involved for Arizer.

In my opinion they should also put a high temp silicone ring in the top cap that screws off, which would hold the stems tight while they are not tight in the bowl.

Add a rubberized texture on the outside to protect against scratches and wearing while also providing a more ergonomic grip.

Make the up and down buttons have a concave face instead of a bubble up face, they would be a hell of a lot easier to push.

Lose the crack pipe and give us a thicker walled tube with a nicely formed mouth piece.

Fix the smell issue!

To Recap my Solo 2.0 wishlist:
- Black stainless bowl
- 3100mAh lithium cells for a 40% run time boost
- High temp silicone ring in cap
- Rubberized texture on outside of Solo
- Concave face on up and down buttons
- Nicer aroma tubes
- Fix the smell issue

Well I just joined the clubs guys. Mine just arrived today, got a hell of a deal that I couldn't pass up and decided I'll be another to see what the hell is going on here. So far I have used it once and the only smell I notice is like what BlackBur is talking about. Just a hot ceramic smell, my DBV would make a similar smell. So far with the one bowl I have vaped I did not notice any other taste in the vapor besides the Bubba Kush I'm vaping.

Quick question, do you guys leave the stem in the whole time, or remove it between hits?

Oh, and mine has arrived chip and/or flake free. I will be keeping a close eye on that. I have one loose stem and one tight stem, and have only used the tight one so far. I'll give this thing a hell of a testing in the next few days and report back with any updates concerning smell, taste, and flaking.

OK! To everyone here who has two solos as a result of the warranty. Hit both of them at once. One in both sides of your mouth. It hits harder than the buddha, and like no restriction whatsoever I will be doing this very often :o  :brow:

Both my stems lock in pretty tight, so I would never remove them between hits. Sometimes when you remove your crack pipe, er, I mean stem, you may lose the load into the ceramic bowl. This has happened to me a few times already, so now I invert my solo to remove the stem just to be safe.

WTF?? what possessed you to bung em both in yr mouth at the sametime?? Man I love it, my replacement solo is in the post. i will be sure to give it a go.

Fuck me, use em both at once, what a classic, cant wait. :D

I have thought long and hard about the issues with the solo. Now my 1st unit is flaking only, no smell yet.
( but I do have a terrible sense of taste & smell, so who knows)

and I have arrived at the conclusion, I dont care.
I just love my solo to pieces, and the fact arizer offered me a FREE unit as well as keeping my chipping one.

OMG, a replacement $300 unit no questions asked & keep the 'faulty' one. I mean really, who does that??
That would be close to the best customer service I have ever experienced.
Now I accept & probably expect my new one to flake as well, I still dont care.

The solo has filled a gap in my life & I just fucking love it. I was going to buy another regardless, now I dont have to. All I did is ask about the chipping on my unit and express concern regarding the issue and they send a free one.

Arizer, I can only speak for myself, but you have a customer for life in me.

Dont get me wrong, I sympathise & empathise with those for whom this issue really pisses them off & concerns them.
But after years of smoking out of homemade plastic bongs and shit, all the beers, junk food & 20+years of combusting all day everyday,.
its just I think this is probably the last thing I have to worry about.

If we are having a solo 2.0 wishlist-
better battery life naturally.
custom stems (GonG joints, bigger bowl size etc)
a charging dock

and lastly- what if someone could make a water piece/tube for the solo that was similar to the cloud??
sits on top of the solo while you hit the shit out of it.

now that would be fucking knarly!

oh good. you must know which lithium battery chemistry they are using ... the only match i could find on alibaba.com shows LiCuO2 -- is that what you found, too?

By the way, LiFePO4 has the longest lifetime -- i.e. number of recharges before degrading.

So wait, Arizer sends you a 2nd unit for free when you claim warranty and you don't have to send the defective one back?
