The thing is if it's packed loosely (which I think is good for better/more even airflow), doesn't the herb fall against the top of the cap if turned upside down. I would think that would have a negative affect...
I don't get herb in the cap, even with small packs and inverting into an IH. For the most part, once you get the first heat cycle going I believe the melting resin on the flower holds the herb pack together.
What @BabyFacedFinster said...

On the air port discussion, when using a VC at home and with glass (water) I tend to use an airportless stem or a stem that has it's airport blocked and my JarHead IH. When out and about I use a torch, and I like to feather the airport much of the time so I usually have my Omni along to give me options.

I'm advocating for a normally-closed airport. Would that be more useful so you could clear the stem and complete the current inhalation?

I'm pretty close to a real-time IH 'log', at least in a manner where I can give a few seconds of heating while drawing on the VC. What I need is get the power level way down and I think we'll have something in the makings of a real-time IH. Today I use the IH sideways. It uses a separate switch so orientation is much less of an issue. Already combusted a couple of times due to the lag in the heat-signal. But it is a way to clear a cap in one efficient draw. No loss for flavor and the potential for bursting intensity! I think I'd want a two position switch for standby [maintain] and a second for 'power boost' as a normal IH functions now. And as with previous tests, 14500 Li-Ion IMR [or better] cells can manage this. If the unit had a charging cradle with a BMS, it could be a proper IH log with a lesser battery pack for portability and convenience. Think PSM with some ergonomics added for holding it to you cap and a thumb switch :science:

The 'chamber' is on long 'legs' so it is a bit flexible in position from the circuit board.
No additional support is required.

Very interesting and looks simple. One 18650 cell? could be made nice and small.

Still requires 3 to get the voltage up. However, a less powerful unit could work with 2x 18650 or 14500. 14500 enegry density sucks compared to 18650 but if you leave the unit in a charging cradle, no problem. I haven't got a cap to click at around 7 volts but it is within the IH spec. It is this reason I think this would 'sustain' a draw. It may be an odd way to manage power in an IH, but shifting from 2S to 3S could also cover the boost option.

I'll give this some more thought this weekend. It would make for a cute little pocket heater.

I tried that couple of times but to ring would always slide out of position when I inserted the condenser...

I was playing with a wooden stem that was rough inside. Setting o-rings was tough until I learned to set the middle one with a straw with the condenser installed. Then I could wrestle the one on the end with only a small movement of the condenser.

Then again, there is no shortage of stems to experience. Personally I don't like my vape condensing on anything except on my bio-self.

I DO have to say that you MUST be careful if you TORCH clean the titanium CCD.

Too much can actually make them SHRINK an ever so slight bit.

Enough to fall OUT of its Groove in the tip. Many have unfortunately discovered this themselves and warned others.

Myself included.

But out of the package, both titanium and stainless steel CCD's are completely interchangeable between both titanium and stainless steel tips.

George DESIGNED it that way ON PURPOSE . Part of that modularity concept.

Just wanted to post a thanks for my favorite Dynavap Accessory Machinist @Andy Capp ... I purchased the GRAV Wide Base Water Pipe a few weeks ago and the first night broke it in with Andy's 12 Milli Ti stem and was mortified to see that I'd scratched up the finish terribly sliding in and out of the glass adapter ... I contacted Andy as I didn't want to try to fix it myself and ruin this beautiful piece. He had me return it to him and not only did he fully restore my precious but he also created a white Teflon WPA for me to protect it going forward ... now that's customer support ....

Thanks Andy ;)

As a low-poke micro-doser, haven’t had the occasion to fuss much with them (not even the OG
ceramic ones).

A post from days long gone bye:

Not mine

I tried one of the boro glass honey screens in my vapcap once. Virtually identical to the picture you just shared but glass.

Vaped just great, but too much build-up too quickly underneath.

On my Shadow M's stainless steel tip I use a titanium CCD and on my titanium tip I actually use a stainless steel mesh screen cut to the right size to stay in any Notch I want to put it in but I always set it at the bottom for the largest bowl size.

Then I put about a half bowl sized nug in, so there's still that tiny bit of room before the rim of the tip.

Do you mean the honeycomb glass screens? Went to a head shop in Boston once, and
Asked for them. Bloody bloke wanted $5/a piece.

Tried one, and yes it was a POS. & thick.

PS if anyone has an interest in the wide base bubbler that Frank shared, Grav is $ALE-ing
them for $99 at the moment. I believe Ramahs’ got one recently as well.

Yep. That's the ones. Sent my wife into a local head shop one day to grab me some screens and she's a noob so they took advantage of it and sold her the Honeycombs for about that same price. She spent like 30 bucks for a handful. I shook my head when she walked in the door but thanked her anyway. LMAO

You let go after the second click -and- the temp is to 'taste'. Let off and when things wane, push the button until the right temp is reached again. I don't have taste anymore so temp is all I get as feedback. I modulate the switch on that. Easily step up by cooking a few seconds more. You're basically spiking the heater but managing control by knocking down the power by about 1/3rd. That may result in a 15-20 second heat-up time all while drawing and not combusting for going a half second over. It's a tamed IH using an input resistor (wire). A Cauldrin should work similarly if the FET input allows a drop to say 8V to the box.

I see it as a removable bowl (VC) from the vape of sorts. Yes, when your finishing off the top of the draw, you separate the VC from the IH as per usual. I just see too much vape honey on the DD-IH to think it is efficient with my bud. So the goal here is to capture it all, especially the delicate trichomes.

Great work. I had intrest in doing somthing similar a bit back just in a more upright fashion and never got to it beacuse of alot going on. Glad to see members still taking on projects like this. Can't wait to see a more refined version. 3d printed case?

I was just looking up potting compounds for a mold

@Xclerk - the universe is the limit to what could be done with IH. It has to be part of a clean air-path solution. However, this is the VapeCap thread and this heater is a cheap DIY heater that now needs a little more integrating. Although lowly, it does a VapeCap proud
