7th Floor Rep. Q & A

I have returned, and am authorized to put the Da Buddha debate to bed. SSV DBV and LSV components are produced in China, they are manufactured to exacting standards that we have set forth, the factory only produces the parts for our vaporizers, we have been to the factory in china, are in close communications with the ownership of the factory, and know definitively that the staff are treated fairly, and compensated above what is comparable for the district they operate in. Our heating elements are not produced in china, but for trade secret purposes I am not able to disclose the country of origin. The DBV unit was assembled in the United States, until the time when demand was outpacing what production could handle, at which point we contacted the factory we work with in China to alleviate the work load on our employees. As we receive a Da Buddha currently it is assembled minus the glass components, testing and final packaging. The glass for all units are still made by hand in Colorado Springs, CO. The obvious next question why did we move to China, with the Da Buddha? It just made sense, the original design idea for the Da Buddha was to beat someone else to knocking off the SSV. So we served that need, I hope this has cleared up the concerns and allayed any notions of attempting to deceive the customer base. We are have redesigned all of our web based portals and are changing some copy around currently. I apologize on a personal level for my lack of attention to this venue of communications, I am wearing a lot of different hats in the corporation currently so I was hoping to have the time to do this since I sincerely do enjoy receiving customer feedback on our products and services, it is the only way to learn and move forward, unfortunately based on this time frame for my responses I will most likely be handing off the responsibility of lurking and responding to inquires and comments to another co-worker, but I will be around every so often and posting when I can. I appreciate everyone's dedication to the board, and good or bad information provided related to our products.

Thanks for the heads up SSVAdam, we were starting to wonder a bit. Understood that you were gone though as 7thFloor seems to be going through alot of changes (good ones we hope) :)

Thanks for stopping by and putting some people at ease.
Now, about that Mind Eraser... :brow:

Glad to see you stopped back in.

I personally did have some serious issues with the way your company kept implying the product was made in full in the United States when it wasn't. Also, DBV being assembled in China and the SSV parts coming from China is new info to me. But, i am glad you are trying to be more honest with past customer and potential future ones.

Your new product looks promising IMO. And the current pricepoint of $299 is completely reasonable in my opinion IF the product if fully built in the United States... Is it? Any details on your new product and your manufacturing process would be appreciated.

One last question, when was the manufacturing switch originally made? The charade lasted much too long IMO. BUT if you did decide to outsource to China and save some money, why did the pricepoint on your products rise so much? You would think your new manufacturing process in mass outsourced to cheap labor would allow you to keep price down, instead of increasing for a higher profit. If you were able to make them in the United States originally, at a lower price point, greed for money seems to be the only motivation for raising price on SSV and DBV. While raising the price, you continued to imply to customers you were a completely United States operating company. Still ethically questionable IMO.

Very good questions, at the current time, the LSV will be partially assembled in China (at the same factory the DBV is produced), with glass and final testing and packaging occurring in the states.

In regards to the pricepoint remaining the same with offshoring of the DBV, it wasn't as much a cost saving decision, we were looking at it as an infrastructure move, we were a manufacturing company that started on the owners pool table, moved to his garage and finally to an industrial space in fourth quarter of 2007, from there to the current time, we have moved another 2 times, to larger spaces to attempt to accommodate the demand for our products. When we started to see that the Da Buddha was going to be selling so well, we decided it was a product that could be handled third party for the majority of the production and still meet the standards we have set forth. I feel like your point of view on the price point being only contingent on the cost of the raw parts themselves is a bit short sighted. Since we are still having every unit shipped to our factory, we still have a lot of operating expenditures. I could write pages on the other costs of operation that fit into running a manufacturing company.

Whats in the foreseeable future for 7th floor. LSV aside and congrats on a new product release.

Also I have a question about the stir sticks. Do the current stir sticks glass end fit inside the wands on the DBV, as to tamp it down. My glass end just fell off. Been with me since I got it but ive seen reported that the stir sticks have changed since I ordered.

I have a buddy who has a stir stick with the glass end that is too large to fit in the DBV wand but the most recent stir stick I bought within the past two months easily fits inside the wand which was a relief to me. Dunno if this is just chance or they are consciously making sure they fit.

Finally a voice! Thank you SSVAdam for doing this. This company needed a voice on here. It makes it feel like you're less of a big company, more homely and accomodating.

Anyway, my question is this. I have a Da Buddha (I love it) but after a session with the glass top (for the wax) the wax went all over the sides and base. Is there any way I can bring it back to its old shine, like how I use to have it? Cleaning wax off is pretty hard without knowing if I will do damage to the Da Buddha. I want to take it apart but there is wax on the head of the screws put there by your staff after I got it fixed (for warranty purposes I believe). Could I buy new parts?

If I remember correctly, there are two kinds of stir sticks that you can purchase. The new ones with the fancy ends, and the old ones with the simple marble which fits the wand (which I prefer for this reason). Feel free to correct me.

Yes - there are two types of glass picks. The regular with the colored ball and then the designer ones. None of the designer ones will fit, however some of the regular glass ball ones don't fit either. I think we are just talking about the standard ball ended type.

I have a test going in the workshop right now for a way to clear the wax out of your unit, I will give you a heads up as to weather it is a successful procedure, and how to do it.

In regards to the pokers/picks, when a new apprentice is moving into the glass studio in the past the first project they would work on was picks, and as with learning anything new its not perfected on the first attempt, so we would received wild variation in the size of the glass tops, quality control is usually able to weed out the ones that don't fit into a Da Buddha wand, unfortunately we are all human so some do slip by. Now the character and fruit/veg picks, we have included them in the units only when we were low on stock of the standard marble picks, in those situations we would attempt to only use fruit picks that would fit in a wand but as we run through those ones, it becomes whats better a pick that won't fit, or no pick at all.

Can we get a rock solid 7th floor designed product from this great company with air assist? Basically what we need is a rock solid heat gun with an all glass or quartz pathway with a clean quiet fan. Air assist enables a bigger diameter "sweet-spot". This is helpful when vaping herbal mixtures (not something more concentrated)

Chris or any 7th Floor rep,

can you guys make wands w/ 14mm gong fitting instead of the 18/19...?

also, could you make one in a compact steam roller design with that same 14mm gong where the bowl would be...? about 5-6" long?

thanks

My friend blows glass. Is there any specific dimensions I can tell him I need for a custom wand and custom heatcover for a standard SSV bought in June of 2009?

cant you just take your current SSV wand and heater cover and measure it...?

I was planning on bringing my heat cover and wand to my friend for him to measure but I figured it didn't hurt to ask the SSV Rep if there were set measurements. Although, I understand if they are reluctant to give them out.

My SSV isn't handsfree.

gotcha. i assumed we were talking ground glass hands free.

i dont think youll have to worry about 7th Floor being reluctant to give you that info. i do however think you should not be expecting an answer in this thread. your best bet is to email them at the: customercare@7thfloor.biz address for an answer on the dimensions.

7th Floor's Da Buddha auction

(content deleted)

mod note: Why are you listing an eBay auction in a Q&A thread? And no more posts, anywhere, concerning where 7th Floor products are manufactured, assembled, etc.

Again with the USA claims.

mod note: Again with the posts about manufacturing location. Let me make it perfectly clear- NO MORE POSTS ABOUT THIS TOPIC.

I was simply reporting an error on 7th floor's own ebay auction.

mod note: The thread is for questions for the 7th Floor rep. We're not going to discuss eBay auctions or other issues with their own site here, even if you pose it as a question.

I don't really understand why 7th Floor's manufacturing processes are all of a sudden OFF-LIMITS to talk about.

A lot of us have dropped good money on 7th Floor products, and I personally find it very interesting to find out what is really going on over there. Any yes, they have been very crafty, and honestly misleading about where and how their products are produced, if you ask me.

That said, I use my DBV daily and generally love it (though cannot wait for the VXC). Did I think it was made entirely in the US when I bought it?.... YES! Do I really care that much that it wasn't?.... only that I was mis-lead to believe what is basically an untruth - otherwise, no not really.

So. anyway... This is why I say BOOO to mod interference here. Just .02, from a long time DBV owner.

mod note: We're trying to make it clear that this thread is Q&A, and not a thread for taking potshots at a manufacturer. With the kind of out of line, out of place posts we've already cleaned out of this thread, I certainly wouldn't participate if I were a vape maker rep. And it looks like you need to read the rules, in order to stay within the lines. From the rules page- Public discussions of staff decisions are not permitted on the site. If you have any concerns or queries relating to a staff decision please take it up in private with a staff member. Consider this an official warning.

This isnt an 'all of a sudden' decision - this 'debate' has been going on for quite a while around here, and sometimes the horse is dug back up and beaten some more. I believe that 7th Floor has come in and addressed this (or not, depending on who you ask) and given their explanations on WHY they do business like they do. Im pretty sure that 7th Floor has made some corrections in their advertising - there are still some 'vendors' who obviously havent. Chances are these are the same vendors who are selling the product below the MSRP therefore NOT honoring the warranty practices by 7th Floor as well.

mod note: Although FC management agrees with the intent of your post, once again, this is not a discussion thread, especially between members. It's 'ask a question-get an answer'. And it's not going to be ongoing debate about the answer either.

AGBeer,

toxicc

The thing that i was just pointing out is that they have not made the correction on their own ebay auction. It was no debate or anything.
mod note: If it's a complaint about where the 7th Floor products are manufactured, it's been beaten to death already. 7th Floor's policy has been made clear and so has the forum's policy.

That should be no problem, but your screens would need to be cut to fit...it would be much easier if we had a drawing or image to refer to. If you have anything, email me @ chris@7thfloor.biz and we can make it happen.

Yes if you can get access to the 19mm ground glass (male and female) those will work.

Yes they are glass, we went with colored glass for more UV protection.
The seal is 'triple seal' plastic.
SM = 4.5 fl oz, 3.5 in tall, ~2.25 in wide.
LG = 8 fl. oz. 4 in tall, ~ 3in wide.

Yes the standard picks fit inside perfectly, our custom picks do not.

From the day the order is processed...it could take anywhere from a week to two weeks, depending on what you need. Then add a few days for shipping.

Hello, my original da Buddha wand has broken and I'd like to purchase 2 'old style' standard replacements. Are old style wands still available and how do I place an order for them? Thank you

MauiSon,
Considering this thread got bumped I might as well ask a question that has been on my mind for some time about your heating elements. Are the tips all ceramic, or is it alumin-ceramic I have come across before? Many tips are a a combination of ceramic and aluminum even though testing as shown that aluminum is a cancer causing agent. At least to my understand

If someone knows much more then me, or has good insight please feel free to chime in and save 7th floor a couple of minutes.
