ISO wash ABV or Cannabutter? That is the question

Greetings-

My inquiry today comes in the form of preference. I am trying to decide on whether to ISO wash my 16 grams of ABV or turn it into cannabutter. I have never made hash from ABV, so I was also wondering what sort of amount of hash might I get out of ISO washing this amount? How does the product turn out in the end? Do you think it would be better worth it to just make cannabutter out of it?

What are your thoughts?

To be honest if those are my choices, i`d go with canna butter

depending on how hgh you vaped, most likely you have got rid of all the trichomes in the vape process, which is what makes up your hash. I`m sure you may get something but I would think your better off just doing it with butter. its already activated (heat it up still as you may want to go higher if you didnt vape high temps to get the more stoney couchlock high) so you just gotta let the butter soak it up then strain and its ready.

then you could bake whatever.....the one ive been thinking of doing is making some candies with the ABV.....someone in here has a few threads on it. depending if you AVB is from top grade or not you culd have some rocking candies that are pretty stealth (just dont forget to label them so you or someones else dosent eat a bunch by accident)

that or make a tincture with it

personally i like to tincture it and make candies. i use compassrosie's microwave candy recipe and it's pretty simple. http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=3650
the tincture can also be added to soda or iced tea.

but between butter and ISO wash, i'd say butter just because i don't really want to smoke anything anymore.
here is the canna-butter thread

if you want to get fancy and remove any of the burny flavor of the abv, you could try a watercure before you make the butter.

Why would you have to smoke the abv qwiso instead of vaping it?

Yeah, i just realized that error.
Up until the other day all i had was a MFLB, apparently not too suitable for concentrates. But now I have an Ion, so that changes things. Maybe i should do some QWISO.

First of all, you don't get hash from QWISO, you get a thick gooey oil that is (in my opinion) a bitch to harvest and use. I've got a glass pie plate with a layer of stuff on it that I haven't bothered to collect beyond taking a sample to see how good it was. I wound up rolling a bit of ABV in it to get a little ball of something that resembled hash, which I then vaped at high temperature (see below). It wasn't too bad but it wasn't satisfying enough to compel me to collect the rest.

To be honest, I don't see how vaporizing it will work too well unless you vape at a higher temperature than you originally used. To make use of the remaining goodies in ABV, I think you are better off eating it somehow. I wish I had thought this out before I did the QWISO. Next time I will probably make a tincture, starting by using the ethanol to dissolve the QWISO oil I already made. In my opinion, QWISO is a good technique for unvaped material but really isn't the way to go for ABV.

One other thought I had was to add kief to the QWISO oil, which I figure would result in a potent hash, but then there is the problem of how to consume it. Combustion is out of the question for me, and if I vaporize it I have the same temperature issue I mentioned above. I use my kief as a dynamite kicker for special occasion trenches, and I'll probably stick to that, but if you're preparing material for smoking and want hash, it might be the way to go.

Just gather a bit of that AVB oil on a pin then drop it on your bud and your good to go.

It's called a dressed salad I believe :)

Thanks. Familiar with the concept, but it's really tar, not oil. Getting it off that pin would be tough.

pakalolo, you use a lighter to drip it off the pin ;) you must be new to oil. if it looks like tar, you must have soaked it too long and/or not filtered it well enough

I have made qwiso from vaped once before. 30 second wash. it was low potency for oil, couchlock buzz, bland taste, dark amber oil, sticky at room temp. it was ok, wasn't great so I gave most of it to a friend who enjoyed it.

make sure you filter it well. drain the iso/weed mix through a fine mesh screen first and then the coffee filters to try to avoid clogging the coffee filters with weed dust. filter through coffee filters twice at least. I found my vaped weed gave off a large amount of very fine particulate, that made the iso look almost black before filtering.

remember to use unbleached coffee filters and be of careful evaporating oil, do it outside, don't burn off your eyelids

I will probably make oil again from the vaped weed I have saved up. I don't really care for edibles

as for vaping oil. I don't raise the temps. I use the elbow pack method. pack 1/2 elbow, drip on some grease, top it off with more weed. I've posted this pic before. a drop of bho

No, not new to oil, I first used oil in 1972. I confess not having used it since about 1975 however, except for this adventure.

The preparation procedure you describe is almost exactly what I did, except I used a 30 second soak followed by 30 seconds of shaking, then drain and strain. I didn't use a mesh screen either, just multiple coffee filters. My ABV was probably more used than yours as well. I guess that's why my result was darker than amber. As for evaporating, I was in no hurry, I just set the dish aside for a few days.

I agree it has low potency for oil and of course gives a couch-lock buzz, since it's from ABV.

is this "couch-lock buzz" a common thing for ABV no matter the form or just oil? i have been collecting my ABV herb and was going to make some brownies with it once i had enough. thanks.

When you process ABV you are collecting the active components that weren't extracted by vaporizing. Unless you vape at near-combustion temperatures, most of these are sedatives. See:

http://www.vaporpedia.com/wiki/Vaporizing_Effects_by_Temperature

As I understand it there are also actives that can't be extracted by vaporizing at any temperature. Someone else will have to enlighten us on the makeup of those components.

Personally if those were my only choices id go with a qwiso. ive gotten about a 7-10% return from using avb- i only vape top shelf strains just for reference.

i prefer to use butane and make some avb errl

O we're making cookies bud, was thinkin about making some tonight from my 1.5L jar of ABV. Here are my thoughts/questions. Whats the best tasty solvent? I've read coconut oil is the way to go because it has the highest capacity for THC (sorry no numbers because i cant find it now). But since its more expensive that other oils/butter, would straight up unsalted butter just be the best route? I've also wondered about making oil from the ABV, then dissolving this oil in the butter? Would this increase the extraction efficiency or would it actually lower it? Might just be a wasted step if the butter can dissolve the remaining goodies.

Well i made some cannabutter but no munchies yet. Used 150g of vaped weed in 2lbs of butter. From all the posts around the cooking forum this should be potent butter, but if not i got some oil ill evap and then just dissolve it in some of the extra butter.

I've used coconut oil and unsalted organic butter with ABV for cannabutter and both work great. I like the coconut oil because I like the coconut flavor but some people it might just not be right for. Supposedly coconut oil is a good fat, so if you're on a health kick that's something to think about. But it's also about 3 or 4 times as costly as butter.
