I don't undestand why adhesive selection, of all things, seems to have completely halted zion production.

It was the knob redesign mostly, on top of supply, and setting up manufacturing for two units while doing so. IMO if anything it is more broadly setting up proper QC than anything else

a bunch random percentages and roundabout dates each update. I'm asking for clear and honest updates, not a true deadline. Waiting is one thing, being bullshitted is another.

Exactly, roundabout, so I don't believe there is anything to be held to anymore, that's all we get, I don't think it's bullshit but merely focusing entirely on the development and production over the customers' expectations bc there are so few now, until there is product to get more, so I think it may just be his priorities is all.

I would just expect nothing update-wise so there is no disappointment personally, he used to do it with a lot of detail and the reward was dwarfed by the negative reactions, so it is now minimal at best, until things really get going

That's the smart thing to do probably, but I would imagine being told to just lower your expectations on CS isn't going to ease the frustration for those getting agitated. I think RBT will benefit hugely when there are others handling some of the customer interaction, whether they're internal or with the distributors.

Agreed. People have a right to be frustrated and really nothing will change that given the history, the only thing that will eventually make it right is the products, and as far as they go in my experience with the various betas at least, there is really nothing to worry about there

Those two should go hand in hand, we aren't asking him for play by play twitter updates, but if you can't make your product arrive on an estimated deadline, at least have a paragraph explanation or so.

And yet, there was no lesson learned? The dissapointed now isn't coming from failure reports. The dissapointed is from the lack of updates.

And saying that his dates are just estimates and not in anyway meant to be taken seriously is enabling.

He threw the percentages in the mix to make us THINK the release is a box and a stamp away...but when the dates past and people start asking questions...he avoids updates avoid dissapointment?

Let's not forget an update on my takes 15 minutes to compose (on the generous side)

Zions and Milaanas will both be sold on the site at wholesale when production gets rolling.

As I see it, the dates are only really there for those who absolutely need some kind of time frame, not to create a commitment that must be apologized for if/when it proves to be false. Not "missing a date" since an exact date was never truly given, so nothing to "handle" imo

I can kinda understand that, but at the same time people aren't looking for something etched in stone (well maybe some are....), just a general transparent idea of what is going on. If he has issues, he should just let it be known, being transparent usually goes a long way. As funny as the 70% and 80% stuff is, it is truthfully a half measure....there isn't anything really garnered from it.

@DocGonzo honestly, sad as it is, that is kind of just how it is....with regards to having to lower your expectations. Honestly, god bless RBT, since he just told me outright that the Zion would not be the vape for me since I asked him to get back to my email, it's saved me a lot of headaches I imagine.

I am a pretty novice vaporist.....I rocked a MFLB for years, but really only got into vaping heavy in November 2014. I adamantly disagree that the way he operates is the standard or as per usual or the norm. This thread always gets compared to the Grasshopper thread....because of the problems. And truly some in each being blown out of proportion. But, I challenge for some other threads to be used. Some new vapes have came out recently, certainly in my lifetime on the site......more have been on the successful launch side of things, than the other. Not typical at all. Least not in late 2014 onward.

My point is, that all that is kinda pointless to share now, bc this is what is happening regardless, as the company and products are built. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but it is what it is, wait with what info we have and see, as far as I know it is indeed worth waiting for, I devoted time and money myself as well.

@little maggie he means the soup nazi public relations style he was a victim of here in this thread further back. RBT is doing it all his way, despite listening to us for guidance early on, he now knows what he wants and is trying to do. We will all see for ourselves eventually...

You must consider zion (despite its high end price) seems to be kept together mainly by adhesive (knob, glass female joint, magnets, i guess the button...) so if adhesive is no good zion is no good

I know that RBT is working hard to get the Milaana out. This is his full time job now and designers/creators are not necessarily like everyone else. Still, my CFX is coming soon and I really appreciate the support here from the makers of some of the vapes I ordered after the Zion: CFX and Dynavap. I don't mind waiting another 5 months to get my HI. I don't expect it soon and I know Alan will respond to questions. Anyway, I'll be able to let go of the Milaana/Zion while I play with the CFX. I just need to stay away from this thread.

Sorry Mag, I only meant to reply to your question to HWS, not really the other stuff. I am with you, I have some new VapCap gear ordered now as well, and Alan should be wrapping up my stems and vvps any day now, love working with both of them too. Hopefully you will have all of them very soon

So i busted out an Extreme elbow (18mm US joint) used a stock Zi/Mi screen and the same length whip and tubing i use on Herbie. Most surprising thing, the vapor in the Mi/Zi is much much cooler then vapor from the same whip in the Herbie. A ton cooler. The Herbie is still the king of consistency IMO, but the vapor certainly fires out very hot and dry when compared to these two IMO

I don't understand how you were told that the Zion is not a good vape for you? What is the reason for that?

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/zion-vaporizer.17061/page-171#post-917079

His words not mine :) , I had questions not answered in the FAQ, sent him an email, waited a week....he was active as well, but not on his email apparently.

I can't PM him because his account is private......but the FAQ didn't answer my question, so an email was pertinent....I chime in here asking what the best way to get in contact would be....as I am a prospective customer looking to potentially purchase one......

And he told me not to buy one  rather than just answer my question, he just said that. I appreciated getting an actual answer to my question later in the thread by SS. Didn't sit right that my email was ignored though, despite following proper protocol of asking a question not in the FAQ. And it especially didn't sit right, that when you bring it to his attention, rather then just logging onto Outlook and responding, he said the above.

Also why I have no empathy or sympathy for his situation. The big question that was soooooo strenuous that it didn't warrant an answer despite it not being answered in the FAQ was if I could supply my own exotic wood blank.......still wait my place in line, but to get something sexier than stock. Didn't seem unreasonable (especially since at the time these were "handcrafted"), but I did mention in the email that I would be happy to purchase a Maple one if exotics would be no dice.........he would be $269 richer had he just opened his inbox and given me a legitimate answer to a legitimate question.

He'd actually be more than $269 richer, because every negative experience adds up.

Funny enough, a chief excuse as to why he didn't get back to me was that it wasn't his full time job.......that doesn't seem to actually matter now does it? :p Now it's the fact that he quit his full time job as to why he's too swamped.....:lmao:

It is what it is though, what's done is done. I'm only relaying this since you asked...I don't want to come across as a sour puss, though I know it does come across a bit as such. That said, I'm not gonna shy away from sharing my horrid experience in dealing with him....I've missed emails, and gotten busy and pushed shit back before...I can give some leeway in that regard, but not much.......I can give no leeway when I have direct interaction (as direct as I can get) with the guy and then he willfully chooses that my money is too good for his wallet err loan.

While I'm at it, I'm 90% sure his Zion update page is 60% willful omissions, 30% misjudgements, and 10% ass kissing. Why are the previous updates gone? Why is the date always 2/27? At risk of arguing semantics......Early April is over. 1-10, 11-20, 21-30.

My birthday is mid May. Literally right smack dab in the middle of it. Think if I buy a Milaana today, that it will arrive by the 15th? (Rhetorical ?, it won't.) Or would that not constitute "current backlog"?? If I bought it today, it would be in the current backlog though right??...since things are now currently backlogged? ...or does he mean current backlog at the time of his update........when was the update....? It all seems so on the up and up, there is basically nothing left to interpretation!

So I do need to thank him if he's ever around this part, because I probably wouldn't of opted for a refund if I dropped for one, but I would of had issues with the lack of transparency and attitude.....least he was kind enough from the start to tell me his company just won't be up to par. Soup Nazi relations are a pretty good analogy, No Zion for me! I totally feel for Elaine

*Note* This is not to discourage dissent or discontentment by RBT's paying customers! Please speak your mind as you see fit. This is just a suggestion for everyone's benefit. Not only in this thread but across FC.

Is there any way we can move the RBT customer service complaints to a thread of it's own?

The details of the vape (which some people are still interested in) get lost in the shuffle.

I know there is a Zion shipping thread. Why not a RBT sucks, rocks or whatever you want thread instead?

I wanted to buy a Grasshopper eventually but honestly the pure torture of reading so many pages of bitching (warranted or not) in the GH thread turned me off. Not enough meat and too many rotten potatoes.

@MrPeanut I didn't buy the grasshopper for that same reason.

The reason I got the milaana is because I saw RBT had a forum presence, as well as the other folks raving about the product. Maybe there is a separate thread needed, but to potential buyers customer service is key.

Imo, if we just separate these comments purely to cleanse the thread of 'rotten potatoes' more potatoes would rot once they figured out the only reason the potatoes have mold is because they were ignored.

Not a mod and don't intend on acting like one, but MOST of the discussion in 'unreleased' vapes will take that conversational turn once units start appearing in the wild, but not everyone is pacified... or early failures are openly discussed, unlike the mighty that was released market ready.

I joined FC on the Ascent thread (while still unreleased)...and let me tell you that shit was UGLY.

If it was all positive stuff, this thread would get too boring. There's 180 or so pages of straight positive material ... Give us disaster!

Is Z Nation still a cult? Or did it migrate into more of a Jehovah witness type deal? "Have you heard of our lord and savior Zion?" "Man, get out of my house, I don't believe in that shit". Suit yourself!

I am not implying anything about posting positively or negatively more just about staying focused. What the the positives and negatives of a vape are in one thread. What are the positives and negatives of a company in another. Much like the moderators asking to move glass discussion out off this thread to a more topic specific one. Much like the shipping complaints were moved to a specific thread.

These threads always get to the point where they are too long with too little useful information, too much speculation and not worth the time it takes to read them.

I think they still have soap operas on TV for those that feel the need for drama in their lives lol.

As far as my reports on Zion, Milaana or future devices they will be a thing of the past. For a long time my docs did not think I was a candidate for a heart and kidney transplant but have recently started to talk about the possibility. So my days of enjoying the Jah herb are passing as I wean off for good and get ready to go on the transplant list. I was not aware but they will not even allow a person to use medicinally before a transplant.
I am confident that the Milaanas and Zions that all of you early and loyal adopters are waiting for are just around the corner and you should all be excited for this awesome tech. I am excited to see all of the happy users and success that will certainly follow for RBT.

Peace out

I take it by "for good," that they also do not allow cannabis post-op? I had not heard that it would effect the possibility of rejection by the host. What a bummer.

Aww that's a big positive mixed in with some negative, great news about the transplants, tough it comes with a price, but hopefully everything will work out and you will be that much stronger for it! Good luck MrP, hopefully you find your way back to us again...

Meanwhile, I agree it is a shame because so many joined in for RBTs presence here, one of the ways I was roped in from the start, but it is good information to have in here that that is just no longer the case. What he gained here was invaluable, but bottom line it was costing him too much time and energy, so he had to make the call to just bow out entirely to be fair (though his account still exists just in case). I can assure you he is not reading any of these threads anymore though, so if you are hoping to reach him with your ideas for improvements, it is very unlikely to happen even if he was the type to listen to everything (I've had quite a few of my own suggestions turned down many times directly even, like I said he knows what he needs and is trying to do already)

Anyway I wanted to pop in to say I was able to speak with him yesterday and get some updates for you all. First let me say there is a lot more going on in his life than any of us realize, its not just full time Zion/Milaana work, there is crazy stuff and financial obligations (pre order cash is minimal at best) so he is actually still looking for other work as well since leaving the last job. This project is still in hobby territory, and that is not even remotely sustainable, this is why he is fast tracking the Milaana the way he is, so there can be non-hobby mass produced Milaana available with steady cash flow to help finish up Zion (there may also be another price increase, on both, similarly to justify their production as time and expenses are offsetting the current demand level). I know it can be frustrating, but the pre order is for the vape, it will come eventually and that is that, the only real options remain wait patiently or get a refund. Of course at the prices paid with the time already invested that would be foolish imo, but if money is needed or spite is strong then go for it, otherwise there is really nothing else to do at this point.

So what does that mean? Well, as far as Zion goes, this thread might as well remain inactive bc it will be several weeks before they get rolling again. The reason for this is that he will indeed be building every one of the pre ordered Zions by hand, once all the parts are in, we've mentioned before that this is extremely time consuming for him, so focus has been on getting Milaana rolling first to essentially buy some time and build resources to manufacture them without his presence (I was told the two new guys are now fully trained and doing a great job on assembly, so they will be able to expand as well) so then he is free to complete the Zion tweaks and build the damn things one by one.

To address the ideas that an update takes minimal effort, for him that simply is not the case. Essentially any time taken to respond to messages or craft an update takes away from Milaana time (ie drilling bodies to get to assembly to start being made), not everyone can just hammer something out quickly, being who he is it takes him more time to carefully word things and his feeling is that time is better spent on the product development, and hearing about everything else going on in his life I am inclined to agree. Once things move out of hobby territory he won't be the point of contact at all for customer service or otherwise, he will be the engineer behind the scenes developing these and other projects further (he may also do repairs for warranty claims, probably depends on the claim, speculation on my part), while other teams handle manufacturing, assembly, retail, public relations, etc.

To @mephisto @Madcap79 @little maggie he is apologetic about taking so long with your units, but even more so he is sorry you were sent a product that does not mean the high standard of quality he set for himself. You are right a product of this price and nature should be more carefully designed and put together, this is why there is further Zion delay really, to ensure that high standard is met. This is being done with the knob redesign and more careful construction, which again means waiting for parts along with a lot of time and energy, so he wants to make sure he has all those things before he returns to Zion manufacturing. It sucks that you all have had to wait so long, get a taste, and then wait longer, but the silver lining is that the product should be overall bigger quality thanks to you, and I am certain you will each receive some sort of compensation when, or before, your Zions can be returned in the next several weeks. I think you will receive a message to this effect some time soon as Milaanas get rolling...

Meanwhile, all I can really say is Milaana is very close to getting off the ground and we should still see many more in the wild this month. It is on track going smoothly, and the real reason we spoke was to go over its performance and design since I've been testing mine quite a bit, it has been my primary vape for the past month or so. I've said it before that Zion is the fully featured RBT flagship, like a mobile desktop (and the final product will include more accessories as well), while Milaana is the bare bones RBT entry level. It is just as effective, yet much cheaper and far more simple, it is similarly versatile but in different ways, but the bottom line with the same heater tech it is still an ideal form of on demand pure convection based soley on vapor quality and overall performance imo

I hope this wall of text is helpful for some, a sort of quasi update though really nothing has changed as we are still waiting in progress limbo for Zion, while Milaana keeps getting closer and closer as speculated. The biggest takeaway is that there is more going on then we realize, and all of this takes a lot more time and energy than even he realized, but it is still getting there slow and steady. As I always say the products themselves are worth waiting for (I too had one for a while then didn't for a while, it was brutal, got me to buy an Evo while I waited) because without all this behind the scenes crap that is all we'd be talking about here as MrP was saying, eventually others will be able to see exactly what we mean as these products truly earned our support.

In the mean time, try to find something else to focus on and hang in there, while Zion remains in purgatory just a bit longer... Soon that focus will at least be able to go towards Milaana :peace:

People are now being compensated for waiting? Hot dog! Is it safe to assume all customers who preordered will be compensated equally?

Haha I meant those 3 who were sent faulty units will get some sort of bonus for their time and understanding. I would not be surprised if all Zions pre ordered came with some sort of bonus for the wait as well, but remember the main benefit to the pre order is the lower price, getting it as soon as it's ready, and depending when you ordered that free lifetime warranty. I'd still say expect the very least, but I do feel it reasonably likely there will be more than that

It seems odd to only compensate three people, faulty units or not. Has the wait been different for them somehow? If I get mine and need to send it in for warranty work will I be compensated? Doubtful. That seems very arbitrary and everyone is waiting, not just these three people (though what a horrible tease to actually have one, then not, I do sympathize). I know the main benefit was price and lifetime warranty, but if compensation for waiting is being handed out it should be equal, especially if there aren't that many preorders.

Fair enough, i just wouldn't qualify it as warranty work at this point, its really more like recall since he could've merely fixed em to old beta standards and shipped em right back out. Instead he decided to redesign something and take the time to ensure proper quality control in assembly going forward. So I thought it reasonable since they thought they were sent a complete product and it turned out not to be. Of course this is all pilot production run for this purpose, so I suppose you could still be right regardless. In any case that is mostly speculation still, we'll see when he has time to reply to them directly and tell them what's going to happen, we just don't know yet. I probably shouldn't have used the word compensation so that was my fault, apologies for implying any inequality in customer treatment, that was not my intent. Thanks for pointing that out buddy
