Hi Darkrom,
I got my first Firefly in March 2104. Then it died, and I got a total replacement in summer of 2015, until it died in November 2015. When it was returned, it was obviously my Firefly, but I am certain that it was retrofitted with the new technology coil. It works better than any previous Firefly I have had.
Nonetheless, I am a 29 February 2016 pre-order purgatory dude for Firefly 2. I envision using my Firefly 1 as a home rig, and my Firefly 2 as a mobile vaporizer.
Also, if you have the external charger for the original Firefly, and the original car charger, just plug 'em the fuck in ! Problem solved. SNAP.
Is there any info on this new technology coil? This is the first I'm hearing of it. This thing is way better than any firefly experience I've had and I loved it before too.

I have not heard of this either. I'm fairly sure the FF2 coil wasn't in production in summer 2015, so I suspect that whatever perceived improvements occurred in studmuffin's FF1 had more to do with proper coil alignment. (Apparently one of the FF2 improvements relates to an automated process that ensures much tighter tolerances in the coil placement, thus eliminating the whole "hot/cold" unit variations. Perhaps they are using the new process in FF1 repairs.)
If nothing else it is pretty awesome to hear folks are getting FF1's back in much-improved shape. Maybe I'll send both of mine in.

My latest iteration of my Firefly 1 was returned to me from Firefly in November 2015. I do remember reading, somewhere, about the next -generation coil, designed for Firefly 2. However, now I cannot remember where I read this. (Senior moment ?) Anyhoo, by November 2015, I had already experienced approximately 2,500 bowls in my Firefly. From the first bowl in my repaired Firefly, it was clear that my Firefly had improved performance, whether this was due to next-gen tech or proper coil orientation. I would certainly contact Firefly to explore the possibility of a retrofit for your Firefly. It couldn't hurt. Also, the total number of draws possible from a single battery charge has been reduced by about 25 %, which may be attributed to accelerated battery draw to energize the new (?) coil. I don't know for sure.

I wonder how well the foam would fit with the FF2. I'm assuming this was designed for FF1, and thus has a larger cut-out.

I have faith stud muffin has the integrity to not do this to us. Part of me is thinking he's the only one to get it, there's nothing on Twitter about shipping them or receiving them, they told me to look out for shipping email before they're sent which wasn't mentioned and they said late April etc....I am sure stud muffin will clear this all up and many more of us will return home today to find firefly in our mailboxes!

4/20-ish soon. Whoever predicted the first units might be received around 4/20 will probably be right. So say three weeks-ish from today. (Happily there are no more April Fool's days between here and there.)

Keep your digits crossed. I think they are still waiting on the first batch to come in so until they have them, they can't ship them. Sounds like that's the anticipated time frame...but I would have a backup ready for your trip just in case...even a week or so delay would be too late for you.
The waiting....still the hardest part, after all these years.

I was hoping the April/May window would begin today as a here are your FF2's and unlike another company who never deliveres in their estimated window we are so good we got it out April 1!!
My trip is next weekend so chances are slim but I'll survive!
4/20 is definitely what they are shooting for so three weeks isn't the end of the world!!

I have plenty of backups haha, I'm just particularly excited for the FF2. I use on-demand vaporizers exclusively now and for me, there's just no going back to timed session vapes. GH and UD have nearly cured my VAS, but neither one is great for my most frequent usage scenario: relaxing at home on my couch after a long day of work. The UD is limited by its cord, and while the GH can work in that setting, I'd prefer the smoother, cooler vapor of the FF2.
I see my UD and FF2 getting the most use while I'm at home, the FF2 for when I go on short trips, and the GH when stealth is a concern.
