DIY Cannabis Lotion

Hi @Ace of Space , how effective is this cream?
my dad has rheumatoid arthritis, and I have a load of cannacoconut oil that I can't stand the taste of, can this be used for a lotion???
Or do I have to start all over again...

Does it really work??? Or is injestion a better option for pain relief???
I ingest a lot as it is and I still find applying the lotion directly helps a lot. You can definitely use the oil you have to make it or even just try applying it directly to your skin. I was really skeptical of the pain relief aspects before a buddy told me about his experience with it. I have mild-moderate muscle pain, if it isn't bad it takes it all away or at least dulls it within minutes. If I feel my muscles before and after, I can tell that they're a lot looser and more relaxed.

@heady blunts You should check out the whipped recipe a few posts up as a water-free solution.

Nope, it reaches the muscles and tissues but not the bloodstream. I've also heard of people have testing clean after using just the lotion daily.
Very interesting! Unfortunately weed where I am is $60 for 5 grams so won't be putting it into a lotion.

is the decarboxylation step needed for lotions?

i've been experimenting with activated vs. acid form cannabinoids for topical relief.

the acid forms THCA and CBDA are both powerful anti inflammatories. if inflammation is a major component of the condition you're trying to treat, they may be effective as is.

the decarboxylated forms have broader therapeutic benefits. pain relief, treating psoriasis, inflammation, muscle spasms, bone repair, etc.

If i add shatter to my batch or kief will what will the differences be? Will it last longer, will it be take away more pain? Will it do both, none, or something different?

Why not? I'm just curious I thought some THC would degrade into cbn
It may degrade very slowly into CBN but that won't mean it will get stronger.

It will be stronger but it's hard to say if it will provide more pain relief. Probably best to experiment. I have no idea what the point of diminishing returns is, but at a certain adding more will just increase the cost.

I just did another batch, this time used 0.75g per 8oz instead of 1g to see if I notice any difference. Here's the amounts I used which worked well last time, only change I'd make would be to use a bit less essential oils.

For 500-600ml (17-20 fl oz) of lotion

QWET Shatter: 1.5g
Infused fractionated coconut oil: 75g
Water: 245g
Aloe Vera juice: 100g
Polawax: 30g
Stearic acid: 15g
Mango butter: 25g

5 ml essential oil (3 lavender/2 vanilla bean)
2.5 g Germall Plus preservative

Nice one @Monsoon, how is that working for you, -25% ?

I gave a jar of my cream to my mate who has an arthrose affected hip, (if that's correct) pretty bad too. He says he really benefits from the cream, but it only gives him about 2,5 to 3 hours pain relief so he still wakes up from the pain really early in the morning.
So i will see what happens if i double the dosage, but i'm not sure what to expect, will it work longer or will it just be stronger?

I treated my shoulder with it for a couple of days and it really took away my pain and i could move it around again too, to test i quit for a couple of days, and within 2 days i felt it getting worse big time, so for me the placebo issue is resolved ;)

Thanx @heady blunts , cool chart!
I am wondering though wether it is completely correct. It says thc does't have any anti inflammatory properties, but my shoulder benefits from the cream for a couple of days, and besides pain, it also improved mobility big time.
So basically that tells me there's more going on than just pain treatment, and the cream does the job longer than the couple of hours that it's been absorbed in the skin.
I don't know if that's only from the added cbd or arnica, but i'm guessing not.
Anyone?

I'm going to try to infuse bubble in the canna-coconut oil without decarbing it, looks interesting, just have to figure out how

I haven't had a chance to use it much yet so I'll report back later. I mainly use it for tired, achy muscles so it's a bit harder to gauge effect compared to something that wakes me up at night. That's great to hear it's working for your friend though! I have a feeling increasing the dosage will make it stronger, though not necessarily last longer, but it's worth a try to find out for sure.

I have that feeling too, but let's see what happens :\
What i find strange is that company's in the us that make these type of creams, never state the % and type of actives in their products... These creams, balms, lotions are very expensive, i would think customers would like to know what they get?

@Ace of Space

i completely agree! anecdotally i've found my decarbed THC topicals are anti inflammitory as well. actually that seems to be one of the most dramatic effects folks are experiencing. i have often wondered if the pain relief was largely due to the reduced inflammation.

we also have some anecdotal responses that suggest it aided in bone healing and skin repair/scar reduction.

i just dropped off my infused coconut oil at the lab last week so i should have some numbers to share soon.

Sounds good @heady blunts, do you mean bone fractures or damage done by things like artrose, or maybe both?
Is it easy for you to get tests done, and is it expensive?

Bit of a funny story, I gave a jar to a friend awhile ago, yesterday it was nearly empty except for the last bits around the inside edges and on the side. She left it out and when she came back she had found her little ~10lb dog had licked it completely clean! Luckily it hadn't been more but the dog was completely baked off that tiny bit. So I guess be extra careful if you have pets or children.

Herb gardener...
Ha it's ok, dogs are one of the animals that have an endocannabinoid system.

No harm done... probably even enjoyable for your friends pooch.

Ha many many moons ago when i was a nipper i remember our little dog went for someones bacardi and coke and they put some out on a little saucer by the fire... The dog was staggering sideways on four legs! But if you say it works on dogs well the next time our dogs get old i think Cannabis would be great.

Our boxer was riddled with tumors and was not eating last Christmas and we had to get him put to sleep but i would love to know how he would of reacted to some edibles and Cannabis. He had a very limp paw and would limp until mum would slip a arthritis pill she took into his meals and by god the next day he would not limp!

Sorry off topic but for doggy lovers food for thought.
