Hey guys, long time Persei User here. I've been using and loving my Persei after mastering the 1.5ohm and 5ohm cartridges at their respective voltages, I'm no longer burning out or clogging my cartridges.

I recently bought a SR-71 from W9 Tech, it came with the stainless steel cap, a white rod (7.6v) , and a black rod (3.6v). I've read nearly every single post in this thread (no exaggeration) and watched every SR-71 assembly video on youtube, but for the life of me I can't get my SR-71 to work.

I've put about .3g of some shatter and .4g of some blonde crumble on top of a uncut oil coil. First I assembled the SR-71 with the 7.6v white rod, the unit did not get hot, and it broke my 2 imr 18350 batteries (no longer powers anything...) and broke my single top (serial # 3507). My internal battery spring is fine and undamaged. The light on the single top functions, but it will no longer power my 5ohm cartridges. 3.6v 800MaH.

I took apart the SR-71 and inserted a black 3.6v rod and paired it with a imr 18650 battery and my functional dual top. Still no vapor production, my BHO is not getting warm, it is only saturated into the oil coil because I applied some heat with a jet lighter. After countless reassembles of the SR-71 I still have yet to get a hit, the unit used to warm up but now I can't even get it to do that. My dual top and imr 18650 battery are both fine.

This has been an absolute PITA, I'm eager to get this working but I am completely stumped after 4-5 hours of tinkering and scouring the web for any information, any ideas? I tried plugging in the SR-71 directly into the persei (without the insulator) and it still wont warm up. I'm guessing its an issue with the heating element but I'm honestly stuck and frustrated.

Any ideas guys? Is this improper assembly or hardware failure? I'm not sure if its relevant to know, but I purchased my Persei at Revolution Health Center in San Jose, California, whom I believe is an authorized Persei dealer (unlike eBay).

Ok what seems to be the issue is the bottom adapter.

If you look inside you will see a center pin that has a slot for a flat head screw driver. You would need two screw drivers, now look on the other side and see another slot, hold one slot down and unscrew the other slot 1/4 circle.

Should fix the issue.

@THC SCIENTIFIC what is needed to use the LAyG Cartridges? Do I need any special attachments like a Herc? Also, why are the new units being sold by W9Tech.com lacking the dual head? Is there an issue with them? Finally, how much of an improvement is a Herc/SR-71? I love my Persei, but I blow through cartridges as I never put it down. I would love a better option that the current cartridges, so I am very curious if these (Herc sr71 or LAyG) are it.

Thanks!

The LAyG cart works on the ophos omicron and persei lines without any adapters, as long as you get the right one.

He tried without the insulator and still no heat. I think it might be the contact btween the bottom stainless steel cap and the slotted cylinder that holds the bottom of the heating rod.

Of course. I unscrewed the bottom chamber of the Herc, where the leaks end up. Followed the guide to rebuild, to no avail.
@Silver420Surfer
U gotta make sure that there's a gap in between the collar nut that keeps the rod in place, and the metal prongs that the rod slides into in the bottom chamber. If the rod slides into the metal fingers that holds it too far, then it will make contact with the metal from the upper chamber and cause it to short out. I blew both my old tops b4 I figured out that that's what the problem was!! I hope this helps! Sorry for the late response.

Hello THC Scientific,

I've actually already tried precisely what you recommended (read about the advice a few pages back), I screwed the SR-71 without the bottom insulator (pictured above) and the SR-71 still does not heat up what so ever. This is incredibly frustrating to trouble shoot, however I am determined to get to the bottom of this. I really like the SR-71's features and am eager to fix this however possible.

Do you have a multimeter?

@THC SCIENTIFIC if both screws on each side of the bottom PTFE insulator are completely tightened, approximately how many turns does it take to loosen them into proper position?

This information would make a good starting point for people especially if no DMM is available.

Perhaps people with DMMs can check this on their own units and report back do we can see the average?

No unfortunately I do not own a multimeter, I'm going to ask a few friends though and try to use one because I realize that it would help identify/troubleshoot my issue.

This may be a bit off topic, but is the white rod 7.6v configuration more likely to break something than the black rod 3.6v configuration? I'm just wondering because I'd like to try out the white rod setup to further troubleshoot (see if the black rod is dead), but I REALLY don't want to break my only functioning persei top or any of my aw imr 18350 batteries.

I've been assuming that the white rod config draws more power and is more likely to break a battery/persei top, and have therefor been avoiding the white rod, but I could be misinformed. Should I try the white rod setup or is this too risky/definitely not the issue?

I agree. A point of reference would definitely be appreciated.

I agree with your caution. The white rod would definitely draw more current out of your batteries, and if yours is an older Persei top and the Hercules is assembled wrong it can/will blow it out.
Best bet is to have W9tech walk you through the assembly instructions, preferably on Skype if G is available. This way you can piece it together then get instant verification if you did it correctly before moving to the next piece.

Multimeter will only tell you if you assembled the herc correctly. So if there is something else going on that has nothing to do with the assembly, then the multimeter wont be much help. But for less than 10$ (Harbor Freight Tools) its an investment that comes in handy for things outside of Persei (like checking your batteries to see if they are still good).

Thanks for the advice, and especially for confirming my suspicions about the white rod 7.6v configuration. I'm about to call W9Tech, is this the correct number to call regarding broken parts/SR-71 troubleshooting (818)-849-6133? How would I go about a skype assembly session? Seems like a good way to figure this out and I've got skype along with a webcam already.

G, could we get some help regarding how far to turn if screw is already tight?

Silver420Surfer,
will the hammer tops be ok with this shorting out prob caused by the herc assembly? I have the old persei tops and don't want to break em. I plan to send them in to get the 2013 specs but low on funds at moment and my hammer top is still under the one year mark

has anyone seen the vapor x xrt? its an almost an identical design with the( heat rod and such) as the Hercules, just cheaper but also more inexpensive. south beach vapes sbvapes.. I seen this and I cant believe it. not saying its better worse or anything the hurc is def way superior but I really thought w9 came up with this shit? Iguess there are many great minds in the vaping world. anyone with any experience with the xrt would like to hear about its use

Nope the vapor x is my design. It was not up to par so we never put it into production. The design was given to skyda to make samples in 2011 and when we never did business because the quality sucked they decided to part ways. This is documented in the omicron thread and other threads here.

not sure about that one?
the silver bullet with double barrel looks same to the perse
someone copied someone.
I like these products but let's keep it real
some aren't originel designs.
you can mass produce the Sam item like them from China.
I usually stick with USA products event thouh iam not American.
china can make good items to but bringing a product to USA can't mean it's now worth 200 but it comes at $15 per unit.
I hope people open there eyes soon this is injustice in that you can make people believe whatever you set to.
my device is not a functional item all the time.
I'm a so mad, I could of Baugh USA quality and messed up and got China quality. :-(
enjoy you people, but know that China makes things very cheap and for low low price
you all seem to be fooled?
why?
product does work for you OK?

Don't let outside appearances fool you.

The silver bullet has always been my inspiration to the Persei, similarities in outside is all that's similar.

Silver bullet is $85 bare bones and has no electronics. When you purchased the double top and all the accessories to compare it to the Persei in fact the silver bullet costs about $60 more.

Now to explain the difference. The silver bullet has no electronics. There is no built in battery adjustment plate, and they do not use a led button. In fact their warranty if I'm not mistaken is 6 months and it's run at your own risk.

Now just because the Persei isn't built in the USA doesn't mean the quality is bad.

Moving forward the subject was about a design that looks like the Hercules just because someone else has it doesn't mean we didnt design it. In fact if you look at that design you see a ceramic rod with a wire wrapped around it. This is the version of the very early Hercules cart When we decided to go full ceramic that design was abandoned because of its inhalant flaw which happens to be a wire heater.

So please stop with the it's made in china so it's crap part. You have your opinion but it is based on stereo types as much as I hate to say it.

On another note I don't see altsmoke researching or developing anything.

That is what we do. In fact in 2009 when we contacted them to have the Silver bullet be our Persei they straight out said their devices will never be used by drug addicts and that they will never accept the essential oil market as legitimate.

By your logic, every laptop, cellphone, and lord knows what else you own is a piece of crap because they're all made in China.

Most of us have been here and vaping long enough to know that w9Tech has created multiple groundbreaking devices and attachments. How about the often duplicated Omicron carts? What about the Hercules SR-71? The Bender? The Nibbler X and Nibbler XL?

Okay so I just got SS(18350) tube for my hercles and the replacement parts for my hercules. I cant thank @THC SCIENTIFIC enough for the always amazing customer service. I lost the little white ring on Friday i think, and i would have had a replacement on Monday had it not been Columbus Day.

Anyway back to point. I was very skeptical about the SS tube, because I didnt think one little 700mah battery would be able to last all that long with a hercules. My thinking was id rather just carry around the original persei and 18650 then have to bring extra batteries around.

Boy was I wrong. Got it in the early afternoon yesterday. Used it pretty frequently throughout the day and it as still kicking on my ride home later that night. I thought it was running low, it blinked after the last hit i took but i wasnt sure if it was a low battery or the cut off. Opened it up and sure enough it was basically empty. Loaded it back up and it was still kicking.

With the SS tube, it brings the persei/hercules to about the same size as the cera, but much much lighter. And i can get a full days use of one battery which is all I need so i couldnt be happier.

Also guys, be careful screwing on the black heater cover... Mine got cross threaded and became such a pain because it would just spin around constantly sometimes unscrewing the herc if it wasnt in tight...

Let the troll move on. This isn’t a political thread and where its made thread :)

Could be someone is copying Delta9 and as time goes on people will, nature of the beast. That means its mainstream!
