Thanks for your post on your dealings with manufacturing in China. I made a comment in another thread the other night that perhaps you'll understand. :) :)

Just a correction: It was a supplier issue. DV has their own factory over there.
Obviously there were more than just supplier issues. From what has been reported here on FC, those responsible for assembling the units are as much at fault for the production run failures. Multiple common inexcusable cosmetic blunders. I could go on as I have in the past, but don't want my knuckles swatted by the FC powers that be.

Well thank you. Sorry for barging in. I didn't mean to intend to sound condescending, my dyslexia doesn't help things in that department. I don't want to totally discredit the Chinese, Its just that I have had, and known of many bad situations that occur within the food industry when dealings with china, in any aspect of the industry, are done. Things that have changed quality standards bother me the most but its the delays, all in connection with China, that get me. It's just way too consistent to ignore. Don't mind me, I'm in I'm in the food industry, what do I know.
Love the link, thanks for the correction.

I'm not sure how many will sell their original Cloud's. I have one of the early tickers...and that beast is staying in my house even if it eventually croaks...I'm just too proud to own it to ever part with it.:)

Back to the Ascent...I hope Davinci themselves come out with some nice solutions to vape smaller loads with...I believe they are working on this...
I thought I would chime in here since i work in the food industry and work with suppliers in china. we have an office here that has been in operation for over 75 years, family owned (yes I am part of the family and yes I know how it looks, but I earn my money honestly; without any nepotism present, as a sales rep/ shipping adviser 9-5).
every time we place a new parts order with a Chinese company it's almost always a total crap shoot as far as quality and shipping times go. I went to China a few years back to check out the quality of work they were doing and factory setup they have. I can certainly say (I know this is no surprise) that they make many promises that they just cant keep. They'll clean the factory day and night before you come to visit, they may even take you to a different factory and tell you that this is where your products will be produced (happened to us)! They (and I'm not trying to single out the Chinese here, its just who I have had the most experience with) will just plane tell you what you want to hear. You could ask them to make a batch of mixing bowls to exact specs with tolerances of .0002 and they will tell you that they will have a batch of 10k sitting in your warehouse the next month. Come that time, you would be elated to find that they were able to fulfill the order, you might even start releasing them early because they look so good. This sets in motion a whole series of events that eventually leaves you (the distributor or in DV's case distributor and management team) with hundreds of unhappy customers after they find that the finish comes off and people are getting metal shavings in there food. Plus you have an extra 5k of junk product stuck in your warehouse (and no, china does not accept refunds).
My point is, is that we have no idea how this went down when management at DV found out about these defects. Considering the reaction and attention they have spent on updating us, I would suspect that they lost a considerable amount of product, supply contacts and unfortunately customers. From what i see, and i know no one is asking me; I think DV is doing everything in there power to fix this. Getting a new manufacturer as fast as they did impresses me tremendously as does the speed in which they were/are able to come up with a solution. If you have to ask me, I'm sticking with my ascent on order and if its still not up to par, I have full confidence DV will do everything in there power to fix any obstacles down the road. Alot of people are angry, and I understand, if I was waiting for a product for months only to find out its not up to par, I would be too. The thing to take into consideration is not so much your own reaction, the real test is how the company reacts. As they say every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Just look at PAX. I love the thing but its mouthpiece is not acceptable to me. I have herd so many complaints and all we've been given is lube. I don't even clean my glass as much as i have to with the PAX. I've had one for half a year and they still haven't fixed the mouthpiece issue yet , (unless you like lube).
I feel like that is the difference, PLOOM will give you a refund or replacement which is great but to see a company like DV tackle the internal and external bugs before the unit has been on the market for less than 2 months just says a lot to me.

Thank you for giving us some information. I work for a company that makes cable parts, and we own our Chinese factory in china. I would throw in my two bits to give a little bit of a diffrent perspective. We get between 1-2 containers a week from our china factory. It takes apx 25 days for the factory shipment to get to port in New Jersey, and another few days to get unloaded and get to our warehouse. We have had defective units come from our factory, as is with all factory's, people make mistakes. But we do a LARGE amount of testing in china, and often do testing again when the shipment gets here. In addition we recently sent a shipping container back to china because the a number of the units did not meet our specs. What I am saying is that shit happens, and its up to DV to make it right how ever they do that. I know that we are iching for this vap, it will come. Lets just hope its fixed up and done right.

Sorry for barging in

I don't think anyone who provides well thought out content can ever be accused of "barging in" around here. :)

I didn't mean to intend to sound condescending,

I, at least, (can't speak for everyone) didn't feel that.

Love the link, thanks for the correction.

Hope you didn't feel that I was correcting anything.

It takes apx 25 days for the factory shipment to get to port in New Jersey,

Thanks for your info also!

25 days is definitely by boat. DV's stuff comes in by air.

On sidenote: Saw an article the other day on how Apple deals with iPhone shipping (what with new units announced a few days ago) and they basically charter whole Boeing 777s. Each 777 can hold about half a mil units.

And for the doubters I will post some milk shots later because this sucker will CHALK this tube! And the taste is just unparalleled in a portable.

I just want to give credit to davinci for coming through with my refund. They received it monday, I inquired yesterday, and they said it would take 3-5 days and it took exactly that. I didn't return all the glass because some was dirty/broken, and I still got the full $ amount back. I did send back the t-shirt unworn because it did not fit.

So thanks davinci, I can definitely see giving the ascent another try at some point in the future.

Hey Nigel, thanks, I really Appreciate the posts. I have a hard time distinguishing between things when i read sometimes. I hardly use forums for that reason. People like yourself make it much easier.

Vaped, that looks awesome! Nice pull..How does the straight glass adapter feel? I've broken a serious amount of glass over the years and worry that the ascent will succumb to the same fate. I went with the U shaped one in hope that it'll fit on my McFinn.

I have the straight 14 adapter the straight 18 adapter and the u 14 adapter. They all feel strong enough but, I wouldn't wanna tip it over with any of them on it.

Hey - just wanted to chime in. Davinci issued an rma no problems and refunded my $ within 72 hours. I really do think that they have handled returns w/ a lot of grace. I look forward to doing business w/ them again down the road when issues get ironed out.

The offer of replacing working units w/ newer improved units free of charge is amazing as well. Davinci should be commended on this.

On a side note, has anyone seen how long it takes paypal to really reaad our $ to a cc? On their site, it says that they already have, but I don't see any new $ in my account. thanks

@VaPeD&CoNfUsEd , that glass piece looks amazing, and I've never even seen a piece with a function like that. So using it regularly, would be a 14mm bowl to a bent 2 valve to an orange fritted disc to a removable 19mm bent neck mouthpiece w/ color roll stopper w/ the most polished GG joint I've seen in a while. And the bottom is a 19mm plug/stand. Awesome.

Actually every joint on it is 18mm. The top and bottom joints just make the side intake look small in comparison because they are so thick.
