well my post office took their sweet time delivering my PV package...

got my cart filled with .5 earwax. no clouds yet but just started on it!
it's supposed to make a hissing sound, right? and you charge the 18650's to 4.2volts?

mine is charged to about 3.6 volts which i thought was okay since it was a 3.7volt setup but i got the blue flashing light after about 6 hits.

too bad the chargers don't have auto stop, would be nice to just let them charge overnight...

You need to allow the charger to charge it completely. It will turn green when its ready.

Also if the Persei then it comes with 5 ohm carts, that require 7.4v to operate. the big battery is 3.7v and needs to charge to 4.2v This battery will run the 5 ohm carts but your not going to see big clouds, drop in the two small batteries after reading the instruction manual and you will see massive clouds.

Ah, I must have taken a warning in the manual too seriously. For some reason i thought my batteries would overcharge and get messed up if I left them in!

Sorry I forgot to mention I am using 2.4 carts which is why I am using the 18650. I was excited and posted before I really got a chance to start using it though.

no worries it happens. Just let it charge completely and it should work fine.

also few rules to follow that will make your vape perform like a champ.

start inhaling like half a second before you press the button
Keep inhaling as long as you can after you let go of the button
once you exhale take another 10 second inhale from the cartridge without pressing the button
let it cool down about 10 seconds between hits
Fill about .5-.6 at a time and it will work like a champ.

The hissing that some people refer to is in reference to the Hercules carts. Definitely not the 2.4's!

You mean it's supposed to be totally silent as you inhale through it?

VV Nice! Thanks for the explanation. Good to know it is a pulse charger, thats all I needed to know :D but that was a great explanation and will help many i'm sure. I wish I had an Omicron. Might still get an O PHOS when it comes out but for now my NO2 is my trusty backup device. VV

You know, after reading all the confusion on the battery chargers, I decided to do some strong discharges of my own batteries and my plan grew more clear the more I discharged. I then placed the two 18350's into a charger and sat and watched them charge as I then started to discharge a 18650 instead, but with a double top and carts! (See what I did there? Went from two batteries, single cart to a single battery, double cart? Well... In honesty, it seemed somehow more relevant at the time...)

The way I've noticed how the battery chargers work is that they are pulse chargers. When in a deep charge cycle, the pulse is full or is "static" and the LED shows a constant red. As the battery starts to top up, the pulse shortens from static to gradually opening a trickle window which is shown by first brief flashes of green that grow longer and longer. Eventually, they'll appear to just flash red and green until the green flashes become longer than the red, and eventually the red will become just a brief blip or disappear altogether (as the battery reaches full charge the charge pulse is shortened to nil).

So, in short (too late), the red and/or green isn't a simple status indicator -- watch it for more than a few seconds to see if it's "blipping" the other color. If it's "mostly" green, dude, really, you're good to go -- the difference is pretty insignificant because these batteries are progressively harder to charge in the last few percent of capacity -- we're talking likely less than a percent.

If you got the time, let it sit for a while to top off, then take it off and let it sit. I don't know the "official" stance, but I've had bad results leaving past rechargeable batteries on the charger for great lengths of time (weeks/months at a time). With the Omicron, I would try to recharge after every session, but with the much bigger batteries in the Persei, I just plop them in at night, take 'em out in the morning and always good to go (and I still have my Omicron for "emergency use" at night).

I don't agree with this. The hissing I know is related to the concentrate, I assume moisture or poorly purged solvents. Some do, some don't. E-cig 'juice' also sizzles in use I'm told, in fact 'the guys' at TV stick theirs up to their ears to listen. I'm serious. They claim they can judge when to drip more in and when to recharge by the way it starts up. It might, but it looks silly enough to keep me from doing it in public.

Anyway, I often hear some noise from Omicron carts and I use 2.4s almost exclusively. It usually disappears fairly quickly. I wouldn't worry about it if everything else seems OK. Enjoy it, it's why you went to the expense and trouble isn't it?

Sorry for the barrage of questions again... I hope I'm still just figuring this out.

Hmm, well the battery is charged and everything but I don't think my carts are even getting hot! I was suspicious of why I wasn't getting any hits and I see the heater element going but no vapor and the cartridge stays room temp. :(

Tried re heating the carts with a torch to try and get the wax to re-flow, weighed out my cartridges and everything. About 10-15 button presses later and it was flashing the blue light again!

PS that hissing sound I was talking about was just from pulling on the cartridge like normal. You get the same sound if you pull on it when its not attached to the vape.

Since I got the Persei used (from the FC classifieds) I want to make sure it's not a flaw with the unit itself that this is happening. No luck in my last 45 minutes and my cart weighs the same it did as when I filled it down to the 0.01 grams.

I have hope that I will figure this out with your guys' help, even the NO2 was a little much for me to figure out

I have 4 PERSEI tops:
Black Single and Double
Chrome Single and Double
They all work very well.
Then again I paid full retail at a Smoke Shop.

I suggest buying direct from: Planet Vapes or from Delta Nine Vapes is my choice for these types of purchases.

Then again I'm a cheap ass!
You may say, "really"?

Medicine is very expensive.
However good devices are worth their cost when you do a cost in use analysis.

I see by your AVATAR that you are a car person. Restoring cars is so cool and I too restore and maintain my quiver of vehicles. Junk Yards, EBAY and GARAGES around ORANGE to do any work you need for 1/2 the cost of a Commercial Garage.

Having said that please note that the VAPORIZER Industries is still developing.
Cars have been around much longer and we have more options.

Buy direct!

You will be happier!

You do make very good points. I have given Delta9 and PV good business and I plan to keep buying from them.

I was actually planning on just waiting for the O PHOS but I saw this Persei in the classifieds for an unbeatable price so I just went for it.

I promise to THC Scientific and PV that if I can come up with ANY indication this unit may be defective I will buy a new one today.

Edit: Given the behavior of the first 2.4 im not sure if I want to try and fill a 1.5... Maybe I will when I get home.

Why would the heating element glow red and the cartridge not get hot and even burn off 0.01 of oil...?

I make rookie mistakes all the time however to recover from this one?

I took a quick picture after salvaing 0.23 grams of a LOUIS XIII WAX and dripped it into a full GONG with some BUBBA KUSH I tried to finish it however I went in to a self induced coma(SIC)!

I'm ready to make the Jump to Persei. Been using my Omicron for about a month now and feel I have gotten as far as I'll get with it. It will still probably be my go to stealth device but I want a bit more.

I never got 2.4ohm carts to work well, I'm guessing due to variances in my oil. My very first test with a 2.4 worked ok, but since then I've filled 2 bran new carts, both of which hit so barely that I feel like it's not working. I may have been impatient and slightly overheated some of the oil. One of my 2.4s I can eventually get to hit after 15-20 second draws but it is NOT enjoyable more like work.

But all of my 1.5ohm carts hit better and without much priming. My only issue with the 1.5's is the slight burnt metal oxide taste. Can I expect anything different using 4ohm carts on Persei?

I know that if I go Persei, the 4ohm cart will give me 9a (just under the 9.1a from the 1.5ohm on Omi) on the 6v, and 10.2a on 7.4v. Just so I'm sure, using 1x18650= 7.4v and 2x18350= 6v??? Or do I have that backwards?

So should I start out with the Persei and 4ohm carts? Also when is the new Hercules available? Are there currently any oil tools for the Persei BESIDES the Omicron carts? I know about the "Hammer" but I'm not interested in that. Only want all in one portable solutions where the oil is contained inside the tool and no extras required.

i believe you will need two CR123A batteries acutally in order to do that, according to the manual

Also when is the new Hercules available? Are there currently any oil tools for the Persei BESIDES the Omicron carts?

it does not have an ETA but you should find a good estimate on this page or the last one. and no just the hercules.

By the way,,,
Do you guys think my cartridge not getting any warmer is a cartridge problem or a Persei problem. Tried with both tops.

Ok, then what exactly are the voltages you can get with the stock kit?

  • 1 x IMR 18650 Battery.
  • 2 x IMR 18350 Batteries.
Doesn't say anything about voltage beyind the mention of 7.4

*edit* where does 6v come from?

1x 18650 will give you 3.7v
2x 18350 will give you 7.2v

that's all you can do with the 3 stock batteries you get. if you have a SS kit you can use two 18650's together at 7.2v

Stick with 2.4's @ 3.7 until you get it down. The carts work. If you really want the persei stick with the 18650 on 2.4. Get AW batteries.

Remember...You don't want to jump behind the wheel of a manual Ferrari when you just got your learned permit. Sure it is similar to that Pinto, but I bet when you hit that wall, it will hurt much more.

ok good point... I just am nervous to waste more oil again :)
So far my best performing oil was BHO redissolved in Ethanol, and I boiled off the ethanol but lefta few %. There's no ethanol taste but its slightly runnier than most oil... can be disturbed with a stick whereas most of my oil turns to a shatter when cold. The shatter types seem to perform the worst.

does anybody modify their oil in any way to make it more suitable?

Amen. TRM may not be much to look at, but the man knows of what he speaks. "Jumping over' 2.4s just because you can't get them to work yet is a big mistake IMO.....but your call.

One thing sure, if you're messing with Omicron carts there's not a single advantage to Persei over Omicron V2x unless you just want to throw money around. You can run 7.4 on Omicron HVD....when you're ready.

Your money, your call. But that's the advice.

Sure some (few) mess with stuff like Limonene. It doesn't seem productive, it's not real popular.

But think about it, any ETOH or ISO is long gone before 400F where the action is. No way it can alter stuff in a useful way here. And all concentrates are pretty liquid at that temperature. Once loaded well, shatters feed and vape just fine, being hard is not a disqualifier.

I have to respectfully disagree. I have never seen anyone mention listening for a "hiss" when using regular carts. However, the most common tip given for using the Hercules 7.4v has been "hold down the button until you start to hear a loud hiss".

Well it seems the OP was talking about something else anyway, but this here Omicron cart I'm holding right now makes a hissing noise (I just checked it again, it's still there) so saying 'it only happens with Hercules' might not be right all the time?

In case you misunderstood me when I mentioned it a few posts back......I kinda mentioned I hear it in an Omicron cart?

Hercules carts making noise is interesting, but the topic was about Omicron carts I think. Depending on the concentrate, Omicron carts make noise sometimes. That same concentrate, loaded in the Cera, also makes that same noise, BTW.

Like I said, not a big deal as the OP was talking about drawing noise, nothing to do with vaping really, but I'm here to tell one and all I have concentrates that make noise in Omicron carts from time to time (and am sure others do too).

Yes, the hissing which I mentioned is nothing unusual.
It's the same sound as putting the cart in your mouth and drawing lightly.
I am only trying to diagnose if my own Persei is defective.

It concerns me that the cartridge is not getting any warmer. Surely the cartridge is not supposed to stay room temp after long warmups etc.,

I think I will try filling a 1.5 with a new funnel when I get home and give that a shot too. Then I will know if something is up with just that cart or the Persei itself.
If anyone has opinions until then that's appreciated but I think I should assume my Persei is defective if it does not heat a 1.5 either.

(Yes the orange glow happens but it strangely stays room temp regardless)

IMO sounds like bad cart. Sounds like the first heater which melts the oil is working, but the main one which Vapes may not be working.

Edit. It may be a loading issue but with no heat it leads me to think its the cart.

Almost anything is possible, but if you see normal lights on the Persei and can see the heater glow I seriously doubt there's any problem with the Persei. If it drives the main heater to incandescence one can't ask much more, really.

You do understand there are two heaters in each cart, right? I'm betting the outer (bulk) heater is dead in that cart. If you had a meter you'd read 5.0 Ohms, not 2.4 for that reason. IMO another cart is called for, 1.5s are still a mistake, but if 1.5 is all you have.......

Any chance you can get to an Ohmmeter or a 'battery' that reads out cart resistance (they're becoming pretty common)?

IMO sounds like bad cart. Sounds like the first heater which melts the oil is working, but the main one which Vapes may not be working.

Funny, I had the same thought except the other way about? I figured since it's not getting hot the bulk heater isn't doing it's job, but the main heater (which he can see glowing) probably is?

In either event, a cart swap is likely to show at least part of us is right about at least part of it......
