I've been playing around with it last night and actually vaped a decent bowl at 12. I have to take quick sharper draws that last about 1 second. Doing this I'm able to get about 4-6 hits. If I draw slower it turns very dark brown almost popcorn like in taste.

tfiWL.jpg

If at 9 o'clock it is too hot, no matter how fast you draw, there is a strong probability there is something wrong with the heating element. Differences between the relative position of the knob and its temperature are know in this model, but they are minor differences, not like it seems in your case that it is "combustion hot" at 9.

I would suggest you take fast draws, but you can pull longer than 1sec, and don't do multiple 1sec draws with no intervals.. that will make the temp to rise quickly.

Usually the slower the draw the higher the temps, BUT if you do quick micro hits, like when you want to re-light a cigarete, it will rise the temp as well.

The only way to draw and lower the temps is one continuous quick draw, not super quick like when you clear a bong, but quick.

I could draw at 12 all day and never get past light brown/green regardless of draw speed. I would definitely send it to 7th floor; you shouldn't have to modify draw speed that much at all. I have to pull very slowly on 3 o clock to get any popcorn.

After playing around with it some more it doesn't seem as if there's much difference between 9 o'clock and 3. 3 is easier to combust but if you draw slowly on 9 or 10 you can pretty much take down an entire bowl in one breath.

I'm going to contact my seller about the issue first before 7th floor since I went through a top ebay seller. This was supposed to be a silver model, not black anyways so hopefully I can just exchange it.

Thanks for your opinions guys :)

The black is actually more expensive (not by much though..), i have the silver but i find the black is prettier.

When you say combust do you get black abv and a bitter taste? Have you tried drawing a little faster on 9?

vorrange,
I don't know why there is such discussion over this. Your unit is faulty there is no doubt in my mind. That element looks as red as mine looks at full blast. So there is obviously something up. IMHO I really wouldn't mind it as I always crank mine to full blast anyways lol. Try hitting the absolute shit out of it and see how you like it. When I have mine full blast I hit the crap out of it and I can get huge vapor clouds in seconds(literally I pull really really fast for a few seconds and pull the wand and clear). But there is definitely something up with that unit.

I agree with what you're saying. I can use it on 3 if I hit it very aggressively like you're saying. Even with it on 9 I still have to make the air move very rapidly to vape the bowl like it's supposed to. I thought the unit would be very dim but there's noticeable heat output if your hand is held over the top of it at 9.

The color of the element doesn't change in intensity at all from 9 to 3. It's as if it's on full blast the moment you turn it on.

I hope to get it exchanged.

Mine looks like yours (full blast) all the time, as soon as the dial is clicked. No doubt mine's defective; no matter where I put the knob the temp stays the same, unlike how I first thought. It's still really fucking sweet though, maybe it's the tbreak but it really works on the smallest amounts of herb.

Tomorrow I'll be calling the company to see how difficult this is going to be. They do refunds up to 30 days so worst case I can just do that.

All this talk of damaged heating elements and temp control, coupled with my recently vaporist converted GF (let's hope she kicks combustion for good, this time!), has prompted me to bring my Buddha from the confines of my closet.

Like all true heavy-hitters, and with the help of two half-full wands, one and a half wierd and funny hours later, i must say i am glad i didn't part with my Buddha yet.

Allthough it is a unit that does not help you conserve, it is incredibly efficient and most of all, effective!

ABV came nice and light brown, eyes came nice and red. In fact, i didn't put sunglasses at the time because it was late and dark and i was going to bed.

still love my Buddha!!! i use it everyday and have been since i purchased it a couple of years ago now. Love it even more when using it with my ZOB bubbler.... MMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!! i really can't say a bad thing about this vape and it was the unit that converted me. My first vape many years before my Buddha was an $80.00 unit that had a bowl attached to a soldering iron in a base and what i call an "inverted goldfish bowl" on top. the vapor tasted burnt and gross and i maybe used it like 5 0r 6 times to try and get the hang of it. never did and went back to smoking for a long time. then a couple of years ago vaping started to get a buzz again and i thought i would try it again. after WEEKS of research i finally got turned on to this site and 7th floor thank to a guy named "TokinGLX' and his show Tokin Daily. he loved his SSV but touted that the Buddha was just as great for the guys on a "budget" so i bought the Buddha. When i got it i was so hesitant to use it cause the "fishbowl" experience was still haunting me. Thanks to this forum though, i dialed in the settings people recommended here for first time users and away i went, loving every hit. i haven't turned back since.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Buddha and have even got another person to buy one and he loves it too!!

P.S...... i wonder what happened to TokinGLX on here?? i know he still does his show as i still watch it, but have not seen his presence on here in awhile.

It was my conversion vaporizer as well, i got the VaporGenie first. Right now, i know enough to acnowledge that the Genie would get me there as well, although less easily but at the time, i was experimenting and i didn't give it enough time before dismissing vaporization and returning to combusting.

All that changed when i got my Buddha, i was higher than i had ever been with combusting and i can replicate that experience much more easily and consistently than i did while combusting. :)

Regarding TokinGLX, there were some incompatibilities with the forum, i never really knew what the reason really was, but it would seem it had something to do with him endorsing 7th floor products. Either way, people can still watch his shows so i say, all is good.

I'm not sure I'm using the DBV correctly with water pieces. Either the pieces are too big or something else is going on. Even cranked up to the max temp with a half loaded wand, it was difficult to see any vapor pulling through the water. Is the standard hose (3 foot I believe) too long to use with wps?

I also readjusted the hc so less air would be pulled through the bottom (may have been the cause) but is there anything else I missed going through this thread? Also not using the gong adapter, just the hose stuffed in the downstem, I doubt this is it, but you never know.

Use a slow steady pull, if necessary keep the temp low as it is more difficult to judge the harshness of the hit with a bong.

vorrange,
yea I always need to turn my da buddha down when I used it in a water pipe.

Oh and everyone I believe I'm going to be selling my da buddha. Be on the lookout as it will be in the classifieds soon.

Really? My impression was that people cranked it way up going through water. I pull just about as long and slow as humanly possible. Sometimes get some nice clouds, but definitely not as thick as just when using the whip.
I think it was most likely the heater cover being too high up, making the hits even airier than normal. Will test and get back.

Do people generally use a shorter whip when using a wp? I believe I read in here that it lessens the drag, and just hits better.

Just because it's a bong doesn't mean you throw out all previous vape logic. You still have to figure out the right heat and the right draw.

i do have to turn mine up some from where i vape it dry when i use my bubbler, but not much. i vape dry at around 12:00 or slightly less (depending on my flowers) and i turn it up between 1:00 and 2:00 for my bubbler

The thing is, if you use a slow steady pull, the bong fills up better BEFORE you inhale it. If you use a quicker pull, you inhale much more and you don't fill the bong as much and it doesn't get that white wall before the clear. Because of the slow pull, if the temp is too high, you will get an uneven roasting in the Buddha. At least this is my experience with the Buddha.

Nice, mmenzie. ;)
That water level looks a little high, though. Have you tried different levels?
