The Tempest by Mad Heaters & Phatpiggie

The visual indicator is one of my favorite parts of this thing lol. Doing back to back bowls, while the head is still hot I find combustion easier if you run to time out same temp.

Maybe it’s my wand, but I run to time out first bowl, and if doing back to back I love being able to see it move through the bottom of the wand.

And I’ve been using torch a ton recently when I can, preferred method when I can fiddle with it. Maybe it’s all in my head but hits seem more satisfying and cloudy. Not that the wand can’t. I just like the ritual of it all I suppose and watching that VI go round as I torch

About the heathshield, mine moves near the mouthpioece, at the opposite side of the o-ring.
Some of them just do that--mine does. Apparently, some do not. Since there is no o-ring at that end, it relies on the machining of the two pieces. If the tolerances are off a tad, no assembly technique will change that fact.

My radiator sleeve is ever so slightly recessed into the heatshield by the o-ring
There is a small ledge on the inner diameter of the heat shield, toward the carb end. This ledge butts up against the first cooling fin, preventing it from installing any deeper. My radiator sleeve can't be recessed as you describe.

This is indicating where you need to add pressure
Yup; I've figured out how to assemble it completely. The play is still there. Its only anchor point is the o-ring, and it's pivoting off of that. Without another point of contact, there's no way it's not going to have play if there's any space between the two parts--yours may be machined more precisely.

Alternatively, it may be that you're not trying hard enough. In your video it appears that both your hands are moving as you attempt to recreate the play. That won't work. Watch @Duba's video, and note how the hand holding the mouthpiece is static, while the other gently rocks the sheild to and fro. It takes a light touch to feel it. If you monkey-fist both pieces, it will feel solid.

I can make the play go away by installing another o-ring below the last cooling fin before the carb, but that stops the shield from sliding all the way up, and it isn't quite as secure. Instead, I just live with it. It's like my tinitus; it's always there, but it's only a bother if I pay attention to it.

It's not going to stop me from picking up a second Tempest when they go live--I'll probably go for a wood stem, anyway.

Yeah back to back hits, the VI is definitely helpful. I rarely back to back with this thing. Clear a half bowl with one hit and call it good for a little while

The room I usually vape in isn't bright enough to be able to easily see the VI through the bottom glass of the Wand. I do find, however, when reheating I can pull the stem out of the wand for a sec to take a quick look at the status of the VI without losing much heat so I am having an easier time of getting good reheats to exhaust the herb when I am taking smaller hits rather than trying to exhaust the bowl in one go.
I haven't used the torch with it much yet, but I intend to...

That's normal. I don't think that it's too noticeable as long as you're not doing it on purpose 🙂

Don’t know if I did something wrong with mine but it’s like rock solid on mine, I actually wouldn’t even know how to remove mine or loosen it if I wanted too
I'm getting new o-rings for the HS which are a bit softer so it's easier to push on and off.

Mine was extremely hard to pull off first couple times you do really gotta use a good amount of force.
We've made the airflow tubes thinner, some were a little too wide. New ones will be sent with the final upgrade kit

Since lung surgery, I can't really do the big rips anymore without coughing. So I am now a more smaller hits kind of guy.

The other side of that, of course, is now that I'm not blowing out huge clouds of unconsumed vapor I am getting much more economical use of my cannabis...

I was sitting here thinking about what I'll be ordering in Jan when sales start and then had a horrible thought, what if the initial stock of some bits are limited.
I know right off I'm intent on grabbing 4 more wand adapters, at least 2 different color Ti Tempest Kits, at least one of each glass sleeve type, extra bowl screens, extra ball retainer screen, and a final upgrade kit.
That is just what I know I'll be ordering. so far...

For me, it's gonna depend a lot on what is available and what will be included with the rest of the kit, but independent of all that I know I'm gonna want at least an additional Tempest head to reside permanently on glass. For the most part, I'll only be using the stem when I'm out of the house. At least that's the plan. And as we know, plans change.

Added: had to add this here cause y'all seem to be sleeping...
Currently I am using the package tube for the Revolve to carry my tempest around out of the house. It is an adequate temporary solution but I'm looking forward to @Duba's Parchment cases becoming available. None of my vapcap dynastashes or alternative cases are long enough for the Tempest.

I know you already have something, but for anyone else out there that wants a cheap temporary carrying solution, another user posted this back awhile ago before I got my tempest and I ordered one for it when it arrived.

Fits it well, nice and snug and also fits in the case that I use to carry my wand in.

I was getting ready to order exactly that before I thought about the cardboard container the revolve came in, which turned out to work pretty well. If I had not seen the pic of Duba's parchment style case I would be getting that. Somewhere I thought I saw a Leather case that was purported to be Brenyo's design, but I don't know if it really was or not. It seemed to be a similar sleeve to that one.

there has been a rough render that @Brenyo has posted both here and on his website but there will be changes to the original image

I look forward to the release for that :)

I really struggle with this at this time of year and during the beginning of the year when things aren't available.

my poor paranoia has me buying a bunch of Zrc balls just in case I loose them before next years release.

EDIT : Awesome, my girl came through with a new Prophet and a few J-hooks, I do like the Prophet -> Tempest combo..

Been enjoying the half bowl setting past couple days
I do enjoy a half bowl; the half bowl (although I use 2 screens in my Tempest to stay in half-bowl) is a perfect maintenance amount when I am sitting on the couch watch TV just maintaining the level I am at. 0.15g is actually the average amount I use in my Taroma 360 (the scoop I have is 0.13g to 0.17g so its pretty reliable) which is the same size as a full bowl from the Tempest.

Nice video/setup - I wish more people *hint hint* would share there setups as I like to learn what I don't know from how other do things :) common people :p

This device looks amazing, The only thing i don't understand why they don't do, that I realllly wish they did, was make it 14mm native, and not 10mm. It greatly simplifies and diversifies my use of the Anvil (with the large mouthpiece which honestly should be the only mouthpiece they sell at all).

Mouthfeel of 10mm is way better IMO and looks more sleek. I’d just get a simple 14mm wpa to swap with to use with water. Less cleaning and restriction that way

I tend to skip the stem completely when I'm putting my Tempest on water. The head of the Tempest slips right into a WPA meant for a VapCap tip, so an 8mm WPA. I have been struggling a little bit to find one that has an 18mm male joint, but I'll find one eventually or talk someone into making it for me. In the mean time it's a 14mm with a reducer.

You in the states? I’d email Oregon Glass Blower. He’s done a couple of custom adapters for me at a reasonable price.

So my thing lately is 3/4 bowl, one heat cycle. I give it a light tamp so the abv doesn’t move around & working good. Even let it rest upside down while still in there. Ronx dual just came in too. Only used once and need to dial it in a bit more but it hits the cap very nicely

I put it into a 14mm joint the other day by accident as i wasn't looking and it is only a few mm smaller than the space so I wonder if I slipp this silicone sleave I have laying around, over the airport and bottom of the heat shield - would it create a perfect seal in a 14mm chamber? I just need to try it and take a photo

I would hate that. The native stem is the best way to use it imo. I wouldn't sacrifice the ergonomics and slender form, for a WPA. Especially considering the tip is compatible with any Dynavap stem/WPA. When I want it on glass I just put it on a BB3.

Anvil native experience is horrible. That's why it's so important for it to have WPA.

I never use the Anvil native, always with glass, so I agree with this, but I can see a wooden sleave that would fit and act like 14mm / 18mm WPA would be an easy aftermarket add on - best of both worlds *shrugs*
