No, it's not. Neither are the log vapes that I was comparing it to.

When I first started vaping in 2014 I got the HA because I wanted to try different methods of vaping so that I could narrow down what would be ideal to my tastes. The HA allowed me to use a bag, a whip, direct draw or turn it over into glass. As I got better at using it I found ways to spill the crucible out so it would stop cooking when I wasn't drawing but that wasn't really how it was designed to work. I was improvising.

These days I have different vapes that work better for all the different ways I like to vape, but I am nearly always using something on demand because I like to be in charge rather than the vape shaping my behavior. That is usually either an RBT vape (any of them) or a VapCap because those give me exactly what I want most of the time.

Yeah so I guess I meant some people like to use the Splinter like an instant log sometimes. Most session vapes are slow to heat up and most on demand vapes are instant, but not always. I also much prefer instant on demand, though my logs heat up pretty quick and then become just like instant on demand in use with the wall as their power source. I have been using the Aero a bit as session experimentation after my Fury2, but I am with you I much prefer on demand. So even with my Splinter in autofire and my Tubo in cruise I still don't think of them as session vapes, but another way to enjoy my on demand pure convection favorites!

Go back plenty of you want, everyone super patient (or at least they privately discuss their frustration) and there's a lot of info, but the last 6 or so pages seem to be the critical bit of the recent relevant and fine tuney stuff, as they're getting into a lot of hands.

But if you mean how much to read to decide if you should get one? Just this reply. Seriously. Get one.
No, I’m not shopping for a vape. There are tons of these, and I know almost nothing about almost all of them. Almost never do I buy something I know nothing about, and I don’t have $1000 to try out a bunch of unknown quantities.

Just trying to educate myself....

Hi, gang!

How far back in the thread do I need to go in order to learn anything about the Splinter?
All this stuff about mods and firmware and other vapes, I don’t know what any of this means.

I *DO* know about 510-threaded batteries, so that’s something, maybe

So if you don't know anything about the Zion or Milaana, there may be more useful info for you in those threads if you start at the beginning even? Like this is on demand convection if that doesn't mean anything, and you don't know any other vape like volcano or pax? This is a vape that takes the heater from RBT's previously designed vapes and uses tech from e-cig mod batteries to control and power it. Then you load herbs into the glass stem basket screen and insert that into the vape, then while powering it with the mod box you draw air into the heater and through the herbs in the glass stem to make vapor for you to inhale all at once! Other vapes can make the vapor for you more automatically, but the effects of these are extremely effective in my experience. I hope that helps you?

That’s beautiful....I have vapcaps, I have a Ghost, I’m on-list for a Nomad and an induction heater. I do understand on-demand, and know the difference between conduction and convection, though I don’t yet know which vapes are which, necessarily. Makes reading reviews mind-boggling when they never speak of basic function - which *you* have done wonderfully well.

I wish every vape-specific thread featured as clear and concise a summary of the topical device as you’ve done here. Cannot thank you enough.

Oh, I have an eLeaf iJust - which, if I’ve understood so far, is a mod (2x18650, I’m guessing)? Is that the sort of battery/mod relevant to the conversation I derailed (sorry ‘bout that)?

Ah okay then! With that baseline I can elaborate even further: So this functions like a Ghost meets Nomad, but yeah tricky with needing to buy the vape (Splinter which in its Milaana form is essentially the Nomad part) and the power source (your mod battery of choice which is the high tech fancy featured Ghost part) separately here...

Anyway thank you for your appreciation! I certainly try, was a bit confused at first lol

Yes that eleaf looks like the right thing and looks like it might be capable of 80 Watts? I think you might be the first to try how well it would work with the Splinter though, interesting to have a simple pen shape design. If you do like that style but want to try something with a bit more tech and users here, the Wismec Sinuous P80 seems to be a nice simple option.

Oh, I wasn't trying to be flippant or dismissive, just offer a glowing endorsement. If you know 0, then as I said, a lot of the meat of the how to is very recent as people have been getting a hold of and playing with them...
At this point, if I'd seen your response earlier, I'd give some bullet points, but shit snacks has you covered, and is the one I'd ask, so have at it!

Just got a splinter v2 today.

Initial impressions:
Its Huge, a lot bigger than it looked in the pictures. Quality is excellent...

Is there supposed to be a screen in the stem. In some videos ive seen people pack the joint and then put the basket in on top and ive also seen people just put the basket in the joint and load that? I feel like you can load more the first way but mine didnt come with screens only the baskets...

Im using power mode. at around 26 watts. the first bowl was dissappointing. Burnt popcorn taste from the very first hit. I tried rotating the stem between hits but the herb was black in the center and then livht brown/green around the edges...

have tried a few more bowls and ilim getting a little better taste out of it but not much.

Peace to you, I did not take it amiss, I took it as the enthusiastic endorsement you intended. For my part, I hope that you didn’t take my response as abrupt or dismissive; I wasn’t keeping my nose above water right then, in terms of my understanding. I appreciate your remarks.

This is from my new V2. It only seems to be vaping half the basket. I've only run 2 baskets so far but both came out like this. My V1 works just fine. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this happen?

I also seem to be getting some werid behavior with my v2. As i brought a new mod at the same time was not sure what was playing up. Seem to get hot spots, and poor vapor production.

Could just be me, more testing required.

My V2 heats very evenly with my RX dna... It was from the first batch. All of you have prior Splinter experience that was better with same mods and technique etc? Hmmm

I think yours was fully new to you, correct? 26W its pretty low so that kind of surprises me, depending on your usage exactly... Also funny because it was way tinier than I expected in person, ah perspective! lol

If I hold the fire button for ten seconds at 30W on my v1 is it normal or a concern if the coil is glowing orange?

Doe anyone know of a dosing capsule type option for the V1?
Looking to enhance portability.
Storz & Bickel's are too big.
I was looking at the capsules for HR Fury2, but I can't tell size from photos, and don't know if they fit in Fury2 chamber or in glass stem?

Anybody have any improvise suggestions?

Come to think of it, are there any other alternate filling methods that folks like? I only have the standard stem and baskets that come with the V1.

The dosing capsules for the fierce fit in the stock rbt 19/19 stems. Some stems fit the dosing pods better than others. Alternatively lamart makes wooden stems that hold S&B capsules and you could put a domed screen in the capsules to reduce the amount of herb you need to put in them.

Yes I also got a new splinter v2 today. Mine seems to be heating the center more than then the outside though. Not having issues with vapor production blowing clouds theyre just not tasting the best. I tried a few more bowls and messing with my technique and was able to get some decent flavor but at the sacrafice of not getting much visible vapor.

I was told to rotate the stem a 1/4 turn in between hits to avoid the hot spots but the center is still darker than the outside of the basket.

Yes Purchased from vgoodiez last week. Im at 26 watts and hold the button down for a quick 3 count to preheat (1-2-3 not 1-1000, 2-1000, 3-1000) and then keeping the button pressed for about 8 seconds of inhaling then release and keep inhaling. Getting big clouds but not so great flavor and uneven heating

Wow guys, the splinter v1 with rx gen3d my surevic TCR is putting my ghost down for quick on demand rips. It's a just trend I'm noticing lately since getting both right around the same time frame. I haven't wanted to reach for the ghost lately. Quick, potent, thicker rips wpa style like @AJS is becoming my go-to. It's just quicker to me.

I'd say try to let go of the button a second sooner, and/or draw slightly softer, to avoid a hotspot. Still surprised that is happening to you on such low wattage, I don't even go that low with my Z, but my V2 is using TC on my DNA mod. Technique can be honed the more you use it, can also try higher wattage no preheat etc. Also did you ever run a burn off? I did with my V2 to break in that new China scent, as high as 55w in 5sec increments if no air was going through (can try blowing through the side airholes a bit, but tricky to do). That may be part of your poor taste issue, aside from the scorching center? Maybe not if you say it was good with lighter hits...

I did not do a burn off prior to using it. I didnt notice any significant smells so it didnt even cross my
mind. Makes sense though im on my 5th stem and taste seems to be getting a little better.

Before using the vape at all I did notice a small black mark on the center of the screen in the actual splinter. Im sure that is just a coincidence though. Ive been changing my draw strength and speed which seems to be helping vape the bowl more evenly...

Still surprised at how big it is. Is the v1 the same size as the v2? Im glad i didnt go for the Z i feel like that would be too big based on the size of the v2...

Does anyone put a screen in the glass stem load herb in the joint and then cap it with the basket? One of the videos i saw they used it like that. I feel I would be able to vape a little more at one time that way? Is there a reason it only comes with the basket?

A little more detail...is this just holding it without drawing and watching what happens to the heater? If so, don’t do it...glowing coils create a form of oxidation...not bad in itself, except that most oxidized surfaces are frangible and in this case will eventually shed some (albeit small) material into the airstream. Not ok, IMHO. On the other hand, 10 seconds at 30 W with airflow should not be a problem. Of my four mods, in their current configuration (an OG, a US one, a V1 and a US Z) are all used in Wattage Mode @ 38 to 50 watts. All of them are beasts in there own way.

They're probably similar size, negligible, I guess it can look big on the mod depending what you are comparing it to, on its own or on mods I still find it small personally... Yeah Z is definitely larger

And yes you can try to do that, also like a vxl elb, but it is not as efficient, like I can take a smaller load further more easily than a larger load so it kind of evens out?

The other thing that happens as you vape the load gets lighter and lighter, so a full joint load will become half that. Then it can be tough to finish off because the herb is twice as far from the heater, though it is certainly possible if you crank up the heat and/or your draw.

Shouldn’t really be glowing orange at 30 watts. Shouldn’t really be glowing orange at any wattage, as that’s not how RBT vapes are meant to function, but definitely not at 30W.

First, know that you don’t really have to do burn-offs with the V2. Ryan has mentioned that he has since made it a part of the assembly process to do burn-offs on all Splinters before they ship out. They are newly assembled from a manufacturing space so trust that the flavor will even out after you run your product through it for a little bit.

The method you mention with a screen in the stem does hold more herb, I like to use it this way sometimes, but I’ll tamp the load down a little or use the top hat screen only for the first draw, till the load is secure in the stem; I find that the extra thermal mass of the steel screen in the way of the herb causes the vape to use up more battery power than is necessary, but this method does work fine if you’re patient and get to know your vape well enough. Imo this also works best with one of the wooden stems from Ed’s tnt, as those come with a flat screen that can easily be set on an indentation within the stem. But usually I prefer the smaller micro-dose method in the top hat screen, especially in glass stems where it’s pretty tough to get another screen to sit inside.

One thing I learned about my Splinter is that the manner in which herb is loaded also plays a huge role in the experience. I found I don’t get the best vapor production if the material is tamped down too tightly or if it is left too loose. Additionally; some flower is just simply higher grade and produces much better, more satisfying and more flavorful vapor. This is inherent with the bud as all strains and harvests are different. Right now I have a strain that is really turning me off from vaping as it is underwhelming across the board in all of my vaporizers...RBT heaters are pretty great, but they can’t do magic and turn crappy herb into great herb.

Tubo capsule stems work well with my 19/19 waitlister and v1

I don't know, which Splinter I exactly have. It's an high flow 4 holes unit, number 235. It came with 19/19 stems. Think it could be from the first batch of high flow units.
Here the Lamart/Tubo stems don't fit with a dosing capsule included, only without one.
