Sure, that screw is a standard #6 screw. These come on various lengths and can be purchased at Mc Master Carr. You can also purchase threaded rod and cut it to length with a hack saw. Just remember to sand a chamfer on the end so the nut will thread on.

Could you share your spare parts sources links?

This way the diy train will finally start :)

Here's some links to things I have bought.

Mesh wire spools: https://www.elementvape.com/vandy-vape-mesh-wire-spools-5-feet
Glass Joints: http://www.mountainglass.com/Products/CHINESE-COLOR/
Benchtop PSU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077GVMP5X/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That is basically enough to get you a functioning prototype.
Here is a build I threw together tonight...

10 ohm heater coil. Built to run at 20v (40watts)

I'm getting some basket screens delivered tomorrow and will test it out then.

The 19/22 mm joints work Well as they are 4 mm shorter than the 19/26. This is good as the load chamber isn't as long so the overall height can be shorter. However, the 19/26 is more common so choosing the 19/22 limits your selection. There are other places to get glass other than Mountain Glass but they are good people. I am working on finding US made glass but it is proving difficult and costly.

I believe @KeroZen will be doing some 14 mm builds as well. This is a bit more difficult as the heater screens, mouthpiece screens and heater screens are not hard tooled like the 19 so parts will need to be hand made.

Ok so, No? I may not buy nor receive a body, switch body was milled for (biggest ticket items), nor any assorted hardware?

Whats even in a kit, and whats not?
--------
One may not buy or recieve any parts or materials from RBT with out pupblicly posting our "qualifications"?

So if one is not of a small group hand selected by RBT, they will not be allowed to even buy any of these kits to play with at all?

At @slatihe a few skilled builders will be provided "base kits" to get the form started. They will be given heater material, glass and some hardware. This will allow amall team to get started in holding one of the designs detailed in the videos.

As the team has had some time to start building we will learn what parts people are looking for. @RastaBuddhaTao will then decide what parts / kits will be offered. These will be open publicly.

Any information you need to DIY any RBT design with the info in the videos or on this thread. @slatihe please read my prior post as all the info you need is in this thread.

Special thanks to @P.A.M. for the feedback that drove this in more of a DIY format so she can get started on her vaporizer design.

Kindley, all i need from you is the milliana body and switch body was machined for... the glass joint with pressed screan to cover the heating element would be super convenient.. the copper guitar pick with a dimple would be nice too...

Body/ housing fabrication is biggest hurdle. Also working with the kinds of mach machinery like a drill press, table saws, routers , etc, is more dangerous and requires more skills and attention then cutting and folding a lil ss mesh and checking with a multimeter.... For real, wood working teacher back in hiighschool sawed the tip of his finger off accidentally in class, and was professional carpenter whom had decades of experience...

Seriously, lame. If this a DIY thread i don't think we should have to qualify or selves to you, to buy a kit.

Join you development team sure to R&D and beta test your new product.... maybe. Sure...

Just get some parts and materials no.. i don't want to be you're researcher, thank you. I want a body to build my self a toy with.

This is really much more of an open recruitment, reseach, development, and beta testing thread for a future RBT branded product, that hapens to be a kit vaporizer....

Or am i missing something?

I guess I'm confused...does @RastaBuddhaTao owe you something @P.A.M. and @slatihe ?

It was stated up front that this is all a work in progress so the direction changing was to be understood as a possibility, no?

I mean the title of the thread even changed from DIY to Open Source?

It has also been said that safety is a big priority. Ryan made several videos to highlight that as well. So with that getting kits into the hands of folks who have experience seems like the right move to me. Then we can see where this goes.

It just seems that there are a few here who won't be happy no matter what the outcome is and seem to have a overly negative attitude for a long time when it comes to RBT. With that I might suggest you move on to other threads that interest you or start your own with ideas that you have. I think you might find more happiness with that.

@P.A.M. @slatihe

If you want to go build a DIY vape, off you go! Find the parts yourself, do the testing, educate your self in what u need to do, or copy others. It is a blank canvas

If you want @RastaBuddhaTao to help and provide parts - then surely its on his terms?

If you dont like his terms then "do it yourself" i.e DIY.

Do you argue with Airfix when they dont have the right model plane for you? No you just dont buy the kit and take your money elsewhere.

Personally i think this is a very generous offer for @RastaBuddhaTao to share how he makes a living with everyone.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about this thread. That is understandable to the extent that it was initially called "DIY Milaana" which implies you can buy kits to make your own Milaana. That is clearly not the case anymore and is why the thread title was changed.

I suggest that anyone hoping for a DIY Milaana should un-watch this thread as it is not likely to happen - at least not in this thread. until DIY kits become available (assuming that they do someday).

Also, please refrain from criticizing other members' motives here and use the report button if you find a particular post objectionable.

Thank you.

Thanks for renaming the thread @Stu and helping us all to a common understanding.

The idea here is still the same. Eventually three levels of offerings. Buy parts piece meal as needed. By a Milaana kit with holes drilled but still square or buy all parts complete and assemble.

The first is enabled by skilled individuals that have the understanding of the tech and tools to build a vape "from scratch". These folks need little direction other than the videos already provided on the RBT YouTube and some parts. Most have experience designing their own vapes like @KeroZen, Raucaus Trees, 420 EDC and ModPod. This enables the project to start immediately.

The second two options require more effort to make documentation, videos, enable the www for liability waver, sourcing etc. Uppon thinking through it there are tools and test completed in production that are difficult to duplicate inexpensively with a DIY to ensure safe assembly and operation. Even though this effort is DIY, the last thing anyone wants is to put someone in danger.

So, we will start with letting the Master builders and any that qualify by this Friday's deadline get to work. Depending on what is learned about possible safety concerns along with potential demand for kits and RBT will more than likely offer kits later on in the year. I am just not sure there will be much demand for DIY kits priced between $149 and $189 as Milaana 2 will MSRP at $229 and up. Most DIY folks are usually looking to do it on the cheap... time will tell

Please let me try and outline the plan who's dates are not in stone

Master Kits out this week
2/2 Open Source builders kits out next week
3/1 - winner of "Best Design" announced
4/20 - Winner of "Best Vape" announced
4/1 - Potentially offer parts for sale
4/20 - Potentially offer kits

Please keep in mind that this project will be resouced as the business will allow which will be minimal in the coming months thus relying on @KeroZen and company to provide this thread with knowledgeable support for all who will be building.

Really excited about this effort and continue to be impressed by the talent turning up.

So, let's have some fun and create less Combustion in the world!

Ey, hold on... I like rbt...preordered all his vapes... so ye i think does kinda owe some of us a TOD... and i never asked for any theory or nor support, just a few parts.

Also I wss invited here multiple times... so imagine my surprise and disappointment.

And I'm NOT criticizing his method of recrutment nor R&D... its grate every one can watch. I just do not want to garentee my time at this time nor publicly state my qualifications.

I was only stating my understanding of the facts and stating my simple opinions...

-if its open and diy i think parts should be equally acsessable to all forum members...

- and think title is still confusing, location confuses it more still...

Not trying to insult nor offend any one. Have fun y'all!

@slatihe and @P.A.M. In order to keep the piece in-hand I propose this. Given your excitement and inability to wait until processes and procedures are ready @RastaBuddhaTao will provide all the parts Required to build a Milaana 1 free of charge. Provided you sign-off on a liability waiver and understand there is no warranty or support from RBT (this will be standard policy for all Open Source sales)and you agree to document your results as you go here on this thread. This thread is planned to be the communal support network as no support beyond the planned videos / design documents will be provided by RBT as part of the conditions of sale. I am sure as long standing members you have some friends here on FC that can help if you get into trouble.

If blindly attempting to build a Milaana will make you happy it's worth the cost of the parts. In fact, you will help determine the problem areas and help shape the documentation. All I ask is that you detail a fused power source that you will use to safely and controllably be able to compete the 1.5 X over voltage burn-in and in-assembly voltage checks required in the build process, as I am sure you know.

If this isn't to your liking please propose what works for you. At this point, there isn't much farther over backwards I can bend for you two. Or is this really about something else? Did I wrong you in some way? Did RBT hurt you in some way and you are trying to get even? I am just having a hard time understanding why you have attacked RBT so much over the years.

Hopefully we can get you both happy and part of the team as this IS getting old.

I mean no offense to those who appear offended at what is offered in this thread, but as others say, RBT is under no obligation to play middle man and build his own supply of parts to distribute as they are requested. If you do not feel comfortable or do not have the woodworking tools, then you could certainly feel free to seek out and engage those that are. Maybe you know a woodworker. Maybe you dont, but there is no shortage of accomplished woodworkers on these forums. Why not reach out and ask, you may be able to work with them and design a body darn similar if not identical, or even branch out further and come up with something even better. I'd love eventually to own a milaana with a molded pistol grip.

I'm just saying, rather than focusing on what you can't get from the man himself, use that energy to explore alternative means of getting there.

@RastaBuddhaTao I think this is a real cool opportunity for us all to grow and learn, I am too simple for it, but I look forward to one day working with those that can.

Thank you @virtualpurple , I did demonstrate early on in the thread my ability to work with wood with photos of electric guitars I have built from scratch using my own tools . I was quickly dismissed off the team on basis of the safety aspect of the heater construction . Which on that aspect too, you are right one could ask a friend if not having proper fused power source if not having . I did ask earlier in the thread if possible to have a concrete parts name list so that i could procure my own parts. Mesh size, what the copper plate is called , things as such ... but apparently that is unavailable or restricted to those chosen for the project
