Discontinued Ghost MV1

My MV-1 was one of the ones that worked pretty dang good with a newly charged battery on firmware rev 1.0.1.

I did, however, download the app and upgraded to 1.2.8 and I'm pleased with the results.

Previously I never really needed to run higher than temp lvl 3 to finish a load and often could do so on lvl 2 with just a clean up on lvl 3.

The firmware update did indeed seem to cool down lower temps for me and give me more resolution and control for temp stepping. That is, it seemed to spread temps out more evenly across the temp levels (purely from a subjective POV) than previous.

And yes, I have no idea how, but this upgrade completely eliminated the sticky goo on the lid. It was a startling change.

I'm very with my MV-1. It has its place, it hasn't replace all of my other vapes which I continue to enjoy, but I'm very happy with my MV-1 and I'm glad to own it.

This is what I do if I head over to a buddy’s to hangout and serve up the MV1:

Old sunglasses case (everything fits in snug and I’ve even dropped it a few times and everything works fine):
chyaaulok2fnveot.jpeg

The entire contents (mv1 is in the sack):
eo88rrah0zr5dq7h.jpeg

And with another small case with a few extra batteries and cleaning stuff if I’m going to be a while:
68b1owp8ug13uw7b.jpeg

That’s it...! Nothing else needed except maybe more herb.... that recycled earplug container only holds so much... and only of one variety...!

Who says this thing isn’t portable? Not pants pocket-able...? I’ll give you that.

I like that set up. Are those nine crucibles total or you got additional lids? How many crucibles loaded can you fit in there?

The thing is definitely portable, the sunglass soft bag is what I'm looking for. I should buy one of them so I don't have to worry about scratching it in my pocket. I use the firefly bag for my IQ for that reason but I couldn't fit the firefly bag around the mv1. Sunglasses bags look to be better. You got a wizard staff too :D
What cases other people got? Curious now..

There’s a lid out there somewhere I can’t find... grr... But yeah I have 2 crucible kits and 2 devices... = 10.

Your method is cool for total on the go ease of use but I like doing this if I’m just hanging out serving up crucibles... you really only need 2, which is all I carry. Lots of lids means no need for iso for quite awhile. Plus a sunglasses case is total stealth... other than that it weighs like 2 lbs... ha!

I have an intermittent issue with the ability of the unit to recognize the three clicks to put it into vape mode. I have to say that Ghost has been ALL OVER the issue. They are probably more concerned about the problem than I am and are taking very proactive steps to resolve the issue. They sit comfortably at the top of my customer service experiences (with Marc from Firewood). After that, S&B and Delta 9 share second. Beyond that, the next filled slot is probably 7...

In addition, the surprising impacts of the firmware update are mind blowing. I have to admit to wondering what they were smoking when they kept saying to wait for the firmware update but I'll be goddamned if they haven't pulled off more than I though possible without modifying hardware. There seems to be some crazy juju in there.

Anyone interested in air path pics...?

Everything stacks one on top of the other.

This is production unit #621 and I’ve used it pretty heavily and almost exclusively since September.

@Bologna, nice shots. Are you able to get in with a damp q-tip & clean around the coil? Is this your 1st time taking it apart?
Thanks. Well, first, let me just say that Ghost has publicly stated that they would rather you not remove anything below the door... will it result in voiding your warrranty? Is that detailed in the manual? These are all things for you to decide...

You could get tools down in there and use micro q-tips, I guess... the ceramic double walled oven piece in the top left of the pictures nests into the other stationary one in the device. The lower gasket just pops in and holds the heat diffuser plate in place sandwiched with the double walled oven piece... pretty cool.

Edit: Oops, missed this... yes, it’s the first time I’ve removed anything, including both gaskets and below (besides the crucibles and lids, obviously...)

Wow, look at that man. That's like pulling the beard off Santa. I was curious to see how it broke down. I remember we were talking about taking one apart shortly after it came out but nobody had the balls to do it. I would've guessed that the metal screen under the crucible was permanently affixed to the interior body somehow. I also thought that what looks like a ceramic tube under that screen was unmovable too. These all just fit back together no issue? Ya think the debris just simply burns off the bottom coils?

Yes. Yes, for the most part... there’s residue on the very bottom but I suspect most burns off or burns to the oven wall... good luck getting all that off...!

I’m pretty sure I’ve tasted that happening couple times. It’s pretty infrequent but it had that unmistakable taste. It’s unfortunate that cleaning that part is so invasive.

Are you sure it’s just a zapped trichome or sift you’re tasting and not a pubic hair...?

If you look at one of my pics closely you’ll see I now use a custom cut screen in the crucible. This greatly reduces stuff, pubic or otherwise, from falling thru... as well, I feel it provides a bunch of other benefits.

Yeah... I’m pretty sure...

How has it impacted airflow?

I tried using the screen in the bottom of the crucible....it did not work out for me. It took away taste and airflow where it was not worth it. But....try just wrapping the screen around the top of the crucible where it just grabs around the top a bit. Then insert it upside down and use. ElkyP used to like doing that I recall.

Not sure if just a screen would be good enough to keep kief and small bits from falling through when extracted further and after stirring.

Bologna.....how hard was it to put the lower silicone in place? When I cleaned the vape up initially, I tried lifting it out....but seemed held in fairly well compared to the top one, and I didn't want to mess it up right after I got it.

I don’t notice anything negative affecting taste either... I feel it def helps limit stuff falling thru... how much exactly? No idea. It certainly makes dumping out the spent crucible way easier. I think it aids the convection by raising the herb a little more for air to get around while also minimizing the small conductive effect created by the crucible’s hot bottom... I dunno... we’ll see...

As for putting it all back together? I haven’t attempted that yet...! HA!

Nah, not at all... I may try to put it back together before I send the body back just for the hell of it. May not...

My app stopped connecting to BT a little while ago... the device was broadcasting too, but it wouldn’t pair no matter what I (we) tried. So, they asked for it back and said they only wanted the electronics and I could keep whatever wasn’t screwed down and sent me a replacement...:D

Cool.....Ghost goes the extra miles for their customers....I just can't say enough about that.

Actually, that's pretty chill then. Ok, so as far as the outside colored area, the black chrome, rose gold, etc.. if you take that portion apart, does it look like an easy change out? If my device gets maaaad scratched up, like I drop that sumbitch down the stairs and it's still workin' just fine, ya think I could just order a color change kit and be good? Is that portion glued down? It looks like Philips head screws.

Since getting eight crucibles now, all my other devices are kinda collecting dust. I just swapped my battery. One blinky light, 11 crucibles in. I'm sure it could've gone another two to four for sure. I wasn't stepping it up like I normally do during the day. I was blazing through level 4 and 5. 6-9 draws each crucible up to crucible 7. Crucibles 8-11 step ups from level 3,4 four pulls level 5 one pull.. stir for the last two.. I've been pushing the stem in and it's goooood...

Actually more I think about it.. yo, first person to come out with skins for this is going to start a Chinese mass manufacturing frenzy. What kind of material could you use to not totally mess with the heat dissipation or at least minimalize it? Inexpensive one could be a simple sticky type deal. Carbon fiber wrap or something that what we saw come out for the firefly. Hmm... maybe a leather or leather like type coverage case. I'd buy a dead pool one yo. Or a punisher. Yeahhh.. have a skull on the back where the battery is at, front part like a crossbones. Yeah pirate ship that up man.

Or maybe like a rocketship.. yeahhh it's not a pirate ship, it's a rocketship. Hells yeahhh.... rocketship'll blast ya to the mooon! Make it look like a Star Trek phaser. Yeahhh mv1 phaser skin. I'd buy one of them too.
Figure you could probably get away with covering over everything except for the heatsink maybe... and the door. The door maybe a netting web type deal.

I’ve decided I’m not going to try and put mr dumpty back together again... I don’t want to risk breaking any of my valuable spare parts... sorry to disappoint.

Edit: a moment of silence or cue Taps, please, for fallen soldier, #621.
(actually, I bet I could put it back together and fire it up no problem and it would deliver like the champ it always has... even without BT!)

Could someone illustrate exactly what the app does that improves performance?

I was not very pleased with my MV1 and decided to send it back for a refund. What could I expect to be different if I decide to take the plunge again?
