How about if you think you have a problem with a product (especially a new one with a buy back guarantee), you go directly to the manufacturer first, before posting a video of what could very well be a roasting pubic hair? I understand the concern, and it is frightening, no doubt, but are there any other user vids of this happening sans the debris? I have one of these things. I want to know.

The vape definitely should not be charring or combusting your herb. I would never in a million years approve of a vape that did that, and I want to get this fixed up ASAP for anybody having this issue.

My guess is some units out there are either simply running hot or the heating algorithms aren't working properly, but either way it seems more likely than not that this is just a software issue that will be corrected when the app is available. Somehow when this initial batch of units were unlocked some of them got affected and are acting strange.

After messaging with a bunch of you guys it does seem like most of you are doing everything right and loading the crucible correctly. There have been many cases of people getting much better results after playing around with it a bit, but some people are still having trouble.

If you have already done your playing around and your unit still seems like it's overheating please contact me asap so I can help arrange an exchange for you (if you don't want to wait for the app).

Regarding the vapor path:

This is tricky with the wording because it's different than other vapes, I'm calling the silicone in this vape "adjacent" to the vapor path.

In some vapes like the PAX and IQ there is silicone actually in the direct path of vapor, so when you draw the hot vapor hits it head on. As an aside note, I don't personally think there's anything wrong with using medical grade silicone in a vape and I never considered it a negative.

With this vape the silicone is there to keep an airtight seal, but it's not necessarily what I would consider "in the vapor path", it's next to it. When you draw the hot vapor comes up through the crucible and gets sucked directly into the bottom holes of the heat sink, it doesn't directly hit the silicone.

What's tricky about this is that if we consider something like this to be "in the vapor path" then it kinda opens up a can of worms - are the silicone o-rings used in some vapes also in the vapor path? I never thought so, but if I change my way of thinking they could be.

Either way I guess this is a separate debate to have, but this is the way I'm looking at things with this unit:

I have no experience with this particular vape, but as I've said before, I have yet to encounter a made in China vape that DIDN'T offgass. (I tried 6 different ones) It seems to just be par for the course. (and why I and many others here avoid them)

I am simply a lurker on this thread and do not own an MV1.

Just had to point out that I never, ever thought I would read the words ''roasting pubic hair" in this forum (or any other, for that matter). I needed a good laugh, @Bologna, thank you. You made lemonade come out of my nose.

Hope folks having issues get everything sorted out to their liking.

Hey guys,

Figured I'd chime in here. I'm not trying to write a whole review, and indeed haven't yet used my unit with herbs due to an upcoming pre-employment screen. I bought this vape particularly because of the on-demand convection heating, the "medical grade materials", and precise temperature control of the device that was advertised. I have to say at this point I have some concerns about the vape, although still excited to try it out.

1. To add another voice to the previous member's findings of off-gassing. I was taking a dry run of the vape at the lowest temperature setting and tasted a very distinct chemical taste/smell. I recreated the same experiment with the light behind the device and I saw the same vapor rising off the coils like in the video. Definitely creeped me out. After about 20 or so runs the chemical flavor/smell has started to finally dissipate. I was worried it would not diminish and I would have to return the unit. Now that it's finally gone, I'm not as worried, but this raises some red flags over the safety of the device and how "medical grade" the components actually are.

2. Silicone is definitely in the vapor path. There is really no logical way to deny this. About 1/4 inch of silicone sits right above the coils and right below the crucible. Heated air goes from this area and passes over your herbs. Adjacent is true, but hot air passes from the hottest part of the vape and hits the silicone before the crucible. I have no idea the temperature tolerance of this material, or whether it is safe or not. Instead of trying to refute the obvious, it would be nice to see some safety data on the materials used. Should we just take a company's word that the materials are medical grade and safe? I bought it, so I took their word, but now I wonder.

3. The grinding glass against ceramic. I know it's being taken care of, but I wrote Ghost an email and got no reply regarding a replacement top. This is also a concern regarding particles of ground ceramic and glass getting into the vapor. That would be bad.

4. A projected date for the app release would be awesome. One of the main reasons I bought this vape was having the ability to control the temperature. I was definitely surprised when I got mine in the mail, went to the App Store for the download, and found nothing. On the site it says August.

--
I'm honestly not as disgruntled as it may sound. I'm just sharing my observations, and I'm still excited to fully experience this vape. I'd just like some more information with solid details qualifying the safety of the materials used, and validating the quality of a very expensive device.

Is the silicone safe? When is the app going live? What do you really mean by "medical grade" and "safest materials"?

Thanks.

I upgraded from silicone in my airpath as soon as I could. I'd never go back. Silicone is unsuitable, it's permeable to the hydrocarbons we love and breathe. Creating a mess, causing bad smells. It sucks and I don't miss it one bit. It is super adaptable though - but not to the conditions seemingly generated by the Ghost MV1

This is silicone in the airpath. Clearly. Undoubtedly. Undeniably. It'd be nice to know what type.
Furthermore, what is the maximum potential temperature (and lifespan) of that coil? What is the radiant potential heat experienced by the silicone airpath walls directly beyond the heat exchanger? The answer doesn't matter, it's cheap and gross with a limited lifespan and a stupid sticker price

OK, I got my e-mail today. Although the back and forth in the Ghost threads has me skeptical, I couldn't help myself. It dawned on me that I hadn't ordered a new vape in a year. It was this or the IQ and I settled on the Ghost. Here's hoping that the shipping box does not reference vapes in any way.

So far, I've had only had one dud vape (ESV 2) and one that was marginal (PnP). All others may not have lived up to the hype but have fulfilled their mission. Until I learn otherwise, I'll assume the Ghost will fall on the positive side.

Dunno what that is but it's not silicone, I'm guessing it's the green led light showing through the white ceramic bottom.

Re: the silicone, I'm just saying there is a distinction to be made between actually in direct contact with hot vapor and not in contact with hot vapor, I don't think that's unreasonable.

Whatever you guys are experiencing with the taste and offgassing I have not experienced with any of my test units, and I did buy one just like you did and used it fresh out of the box, first hit tasted like heaven.

I guess there is, and I would suggest it would remain the commonly accepted standard that a silicone free vapor path is isolated from silicone. Here that's not the case, perhaps the visible stream doesn't reach it, but there will be interaction on that sidewall. Regardless, the heat is going to reach it. What is it rated to cope with? It's in direct contact with decent thermal transferring mediums which are hot. With an oils pads thermal mass, plus crucible and lid at temps 4&5 (600°F?) how could this material succesfully cope with the heat exposure? And again, with the style of coil energy exchanger, that heater will be running well above target temps, right? How does the silicone cope with that? It's charring flowers, or capable of it (at much greater distances).

Why avoid the elephant in the room and just say that there most certainly is silicone in the vapor pathway.

For what it's worth, I don't have a problem with part #29, but why deny it's right to fame? What's it made of and how hot can it get for what sustained period? And then tell us how there's sensors to save us from very real potential risk.

I mean, in the name of vaporisation. Personally I'd smoke a bowl

I'll try and get an answer about the specific type of silicone used, I just found this on wikipedia after a quick search on silicone:

"Silicone rubber is generally non-reactive, stable, and resistant to extreme environments and temperatures from -55 °C to +300 °C while still maintaining its useful properties. Due to these properties and its ease of manufacturing and shaping, silicone rubber can be found in a wide variety of products, including: automotive applications; cooking, baking, and food storage products; apparel such as undergarments, sportswear, and footwear; electronics; medical devices and implants; and in home repair and hardware with products such as silicone sealants."

Edit: I have a silicone baking mat that you bake cookies on at 450F in the oven called a Silpat: http://silpat.com/faq.html

Never bad to back up "medical grade" jargon with fact. But, I mean. It's silicone. It makes the best muffin trays. And I'll point out that I figured 600°F was like 400+°C but it's 315°, which is much less alarming, for #29 which no one should really care too much about, save for cleaning it.
I figure there's a few reasons why there's 15s cut outs, and limiting the heat exposure to this is decent, but I'm more concerned with the fact that silicone is so close to a glowing coil (#31). It's not the vapour path, but also the air path that is important. It just seems a bit 'hide behind facts' to minimise the discussion to 'its not there / it's food safe'.
If the seal is important to function, then using a material barely suited to the conditions is not great for longevity.

Their solution is probably quite considered, so it'd be nice if they can show off their engineering skillsets a bit on such a crucial topic to vaping as safety

These brand new realeases always turn out to being a bit of a shit show. IMO. Some don't but most are/do. I'm not sure if it's to high of expectations or missed release dates or early production snafu's. Or over promises-misinformation. Either way it makes for some really good reading.

I still feel from all reports I've read it is doing exactly what was advertised. Delivering tasty very cool vapor. That hasn't been questioned as far as I remember.

Please no one make a thread about 'pubic hair' in the General Discussion area. Just sayin'...
I thought I was the only one...besides if I was a hair from the 'pubice' region I would, One: wonder how a hair from that region made it into my device and Two: NEVER vape from it...wtf.

that being said I'm sure that wasn't what it was.

I knew the lecture from @Stu was inevitable.

good thing I'm not a safety freak and have even used vapes with glue in the vapor path and found them quite delightful.

I also used the ascent with no burnoffs
smarts aren't my thing...im lucky that I'm easy on the eyes.

safety aside we all have different interpretations of in the path/ out the path...my :2c: is this: if it gets brown or resin coated it is part of the path. period.

if it is a overlapping ceramic piece with a silicone sleeve and there is no resin on it after extended use...it would be considered by me to be out of the path.

but I use my supreme sometimes with the silicone MP with vapor pouring all through that shit....it doesn't get warm though...so I gives no fucks.

by the complicated looking diagrams of this device it appears that there are alot of parts...how many 'seals' are on this device ball-park?

maybe you know @VCBud?

The reason I ask is because it seems like each seal location could be a potential maintenece location and definite troubleshooting location for weak vapor production or heat algorithm issues?

hopefully VAS will land me one soon to form my own opinion.

It absolutely is, well, except for the no app thing...

I thought I bought an app, too?

Edit: Actually, aside from the missing app (and possible off-gasses...) I'd say it's delivering more. I had no idea it would be this good with concentrates.

''Twas one of my favorite also. Still can be In all honesty. Crazy how much people want to persuade others beliefs. It's like it's not enough to express your own personal likes or dislikes or experiences. But instead we feel the need to get others to like what we like or even hate what we hate. I've been caught up In it myself. Cant say I haven't. Not my best posts on fc for sure.

But still here we have a brand new realeased portable pure convection vaporizer( which is I feel the absolute hardest type of heating to get to work properly 100% of the time) and it's gone better then I seriously thought that it was going to go. But it's still early so time will tell.

plus...keeping it 100: it also has something to do with WHO is the main promoter of this vape.

when people put more stock into your words than the thought your putting into them it's a recipe for disaster.

I thing VC is more polarizing than RBT because of his visibility....some will be angry because he preferred this vape over that vape or feel he rated a poor vape highly (like the alternate lol)

others take his word as gospel...

those two groups are the most vocal...the fist seeks to discredit everything he does...the other seeks to confirm and sing praises.

when your an ordinary objective person...things get overwhelming.

The other thing that I see at the snack table of the shit show is VC's stock in this company's success...monitary or otherwise.

personally I think too much weight is given to this. being someone who has NOT made any money off of a vaporizer review to date...but have been accused a few times...when in actuality I'm just giving my point of view and others will surely feel different.

but that's the beauty of life...we all have our own eyes, brains and sensory receptors and are more than able to make educated desicions if we remember we have the power to
