Discontinued The Grasshopper

Hey

So I'm using my Indiegogo Titanium Grasshopper for some time now but not very much, not even every week. Half a year ago I ordered two more batteries and today they just don't hold that long. I'm charging them with the xtar vc4 and they get full at 70mAh-110mAh.
Is this normal? Can I purchase this battery format also from other vendors, or is this a grasshopper special battery?
thanks
Welcome @BaTou069 .

The gh batteries are proprietary; you can only get them from ghl. They're reasonably priced from them. Ghl made changes to their batteries and are now shipping version 2.

Having said that, they don't seem to have a terribly long shelf life. It's generally referred to as cycles of use. I don't know if the batteries degrade if not used. From your experience, it seems so.

Unless others here chime in (lots of folks here have extensive battery knowledge), you may want to email ghl with estimates of your # of cycles to see if they think your batteries are underperforming to an extent that they do something about it. With the age of your unit, I'd be surprised, but you never know...

I've been experimenting with BIGGER more packed/tamped loads and WOW it's like another vaporizer! I have this little puppy dialed in and it keeps blowing me away more and more!
Yes! I keep re-discovering things with this vape, too!

I used paper towel last time I cleaned, doesn't leave any fuzz and makes keeping liquid away from the heater screen easy
Paper towel, dry or moistened with alcohol?
I've been swabbing with iso moistened regular q-tip, not dripping wet. Upside down Hopper. Gonna try not to touch the screen too much in the future.

But that advice from Caroline, to keep moisture from touching the heater element - wouldn't that be kinda generic advice anyway? While cautionary, I don't read it as "one drop of alcohol could ruin your Grasshopper!" On second thought, I've had a lot of warranty claims, so...

It does, however give us something to worry about instead of, say, the future of the mankind.

I did use a paper towel sprayed with isopropyl alcohol. It works well to clean the threads and chamber insulation, and the top of the chamber walls itself, but doesn't come in contact with the heater screen.

The user manual states to dunk a q-tip in IPA. "Insert into chamber and scrub the sides and bottom using a circular motion"
Whilst the advice from Caroline "Always be careful not to get any liquid on the screen in the Body as it can leak into the heater." suggests to avoid the screen entirely.

If cleaning has played a part in the deaths of any of my bodies, it was only a tiny amount of liquid-heater contact causing it.
It's worth pointing out that moisture can easily get trapped in the mouthpiece after cleaning, and so not allowing it to dry properly could be a more common culprit.

Not necessarily worth worrying over, but worth being aware of.

@biohacker , How do you use a tiny wipe inside the chamber? Just trying to picture the process.

I kinda just fold up the wipe, invert GH, and roll and wipe the sides up without getting to the screen. Actually a first, before I read that one post I was cleaning the screen in there too...no problems so far (knock on wood). You can also wrap the wipe around something like a toothpick or pokey tool.

I'm getting MUCH more medicated now that i'm using .2g loads in the GH instead of my usual .1g! Especially when using a glass piece....I LOVE the silicone condom 14mm connection.... I simply inhale to milk the glass, and then crack the seal to clear, and then I keep going and repeat a few more times unless I feel i'm being too hard on heater.... i'm going to take a video of this process/technique as soon as I can! Yes, I know, i'm quite hard on my hoppers! Just need to do it in the name of science! It's quite the visually appealing eye candy!

Has anyone tried the DDave dry-glass cooling unit with their hopper? http://www.ddavemods.com/store/p13/14mm_Vapor_Cooler_*DRY*_Flavor-Saver_Whip_Attachment.html

Saw it on top of another vape on reddit and thought it looked maybe small and portable

Yeah, I use it daily. It really helps cool down the vapor nicely and doesn't spill in my "kit".
The only down side is the "splash" of water you get if you draw to fast. I've gotten into the habit of stopping my draw before I remove it from my GH then finishing my draw from my GH native.

@vapviking , this line gave me a pretty big chuckle when I read it– thank you for the subtle perspective check. I find myself checking these FC threads more often than I check news sites, because I just can't bear to look. I can only muster so much angst, so for the timebeing, I've been directing it towards Hopper Labs rather than things that really matter.

So I took the plunge last Nov 11'th and ordered a stainless grasshopper to call my own. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the expected ship date was and still is December. crossing my fingers that will actually happen.

I wish you luck and hope that happens... but my order status showed an estimated ship date of "November 2016", even when we were halfway into December (and originally was April 2016), so... don't get your hopes up too high.

@Hjalmark - I ordered a tichillum as a hopper cooler from @cannabis.pro at 420EDC

Unbreakable. And just damn cool.
Can't wait to tell folks, "made of titanium, just like the GH I didn't get yet."

Tichilli-huh? I've never heard of this tichillum. Went googling but I still don't understand the "why" of it and the unique shape it has. Looks like some ancient Egyptian dog whistle. :hmm:

OK going to repost an old post re batteries. If the unit is working as stated the battery is too small to power this unit without problems. I don't know the actual power of the batteries so I am basing what it I say on common usage. "Anybody getting one should get a spare battery because with them being an unusual size they will be hard to find. I still have a few questions regarding power/battery. I am guessing at some of this because I have seen limited specs on this product. They are saying 30 watt heater. In e-cigs this would translate on a 3.7 volt battery to a 0.5 ohm coil with a life on the battery of 5 min (broken down into 66x5 sec puffs). E-cigs don't supply power continuously but in small bursts. Also since this battery will be drawing power at twice it's rating I was wondering if there is protection built in to stop it venting or over discharging. Love the idea but if you overpower your batteries thy will die quickly and cause problems. Just saying.

The why of it? It is 3D printed titanium with endless possibilities. It is lightweight, easy to clean, can be carried on a keychain (lanyard or necklace too). When attached to the silicon GH condom or FW4 mouthpiece, it rips air and allows for some very efficient draws while cooling the vapor. The shape is modeled after the Chillum hashpipe with a design focused on easy maintenance and future adaptability via the modular design.

So I've had my SS hopper a few days now and have a few generalisations observations and questions. I agree with biohacker that more packed seems to be better. Still learning it, but seem to be happiest in the 3.5 to 4.5 on the temp dial. Coming from a Crafty I personally think the flavour isn't quite as tasty, but it hits harder and much quicker. I find the tip does get quite hot, broke my only bit of glass so haven't been able to try it that way yet, but think it will excel when I do. Been considering trying the crafty cooling unit with it too.

I have a Nitecore on my Xmas list, so for now I'm using the supplied charger with varying results depending on the battery in use. They are all GHB2. But if I connect the charger to the GH after the USB plug I will either get one lone red LED flash, no flash or red and blue together. Only one battery functions correctly when charged in this order. They all seem to charge fine if I connect the charger to GH and then insert USB afterwards. Strange quirk worth a mention.

Anyone got any tips on how to empty a packed/tamped ABV load as it don't seem to tap out too easy and as its currently being babied I'd rather not whack it too hard. I'm using tweezers to get the firm bits out then tap, but don't think that would be super practical out in the field.

Looking forward to giving it a subtle outdoor test later tonight :)

I suggest you get @Ratchett's mini scoop and poke. It helps scrape debris from the mouthpiece screen too. A toothpick would probably work to help you loosen your spent oven load too. I wouldn't trust it in the mouthpiece though.

Enjoy your new toy!

Does anyone have issues with the hopper's bowl threads? I just cleaned things up the other day and it appears as if I can't fully thread the mouthpiece on without going really hard; there's a small gap to where the complete seal can be.

Doesn't seem to be affecting performance, but not normal.

maybe you have to tighten the screen in your moutpiece...

members suggest using precission tweezers and you have to be carefull otherwise you could bent your screen

Don't know if this is supe then obvious "tips" but the clip on the Grasshopper is great to hold a toothpick or the little stir stick that comes with Davinci ascent

Probably could 3d print something that fits even better because only down side is dropping your toothpick when changing battery

@Purple Lava Lamp you need to tighten screen on mouthpiece, a pair of tweezer with a sharp tip is required like @btka said, I had a loose screen on arrival from hoppers and it has loosened again after that, no problem though fixing it
