Discontinued Zion vaporizer

Reading over in the USB thread makes me want my zion even more! Hopefully we hear of more and more people getting their zions to calm the nerves of all of us still waiting.(well at least mine:rofl:).

Everything's coming together and I love it!! Zion zombie nation:zombie:

Calm Consistency
Here's my advice to you new Zion owners.

When you get it, make sure you charge up your batteries first. While they charge, take a few dry hits through it to see if you detect any flavours. (You shouldn't.) After they are charged, turn the power knob all the way up and hold the button down for 30-40 seconds. Use a strong light to look for off-gassing. (Highly unlikely.) Next take a dry hit without any power, then a dry hit with the button down. Keep looking for off-gassing or noticeable flavours. When you're satisfied there are none, you're ready for your first load.

I recommend using the stem to suck up the load rather than dumping it into the stem, but it's your choice. I find it is simplest if you always hold the stem with the load facing up and invert the Zion to place it atop the stem, then turn the whole thing right side up. This keeps the load in place. The load will be pulled up off the internal screen whenever you draw on the stem. To remove it, first take a pull and then reverse the procedure: invert the Zion holding the stem in place, then remove the Zion from the stem. (This is all second nature to Solo owners.)

Now for the best part. Start your first hit with the power knob at 50%. If you look at the Zion from the top with the power knob in the lower right, 50% should be around where the marker is at 12 o'clock. Since these units are hand-built, there could be some variety in the exact position of 50% but it's not enough to matter. The Zion isn't a precision instrument and doesn't need to be.

Hold the button down and after 5 seconds, start taking little test puffs. When you detect the vapour, you can start a steady inhale or do whatever suits you. You can inhale too hard at this setting so don't hoover it. Don't worry, at higher power settings the heater can handle a lot more flow if that's your style. This is just a baseline to get you dialed in. If you found that vapour too thin, turn the knob up 45° and repeat. If you prefer thinner tastier vapour, turn it down 45°. At each position, just hold the button down and take test puffs until you taste the vapour. Don't be afraid to keep the power on. Since the Zion is convection, holding the button down just uses up your battery and not your load (unless you're drawing air through it of course). It shouldn't take more than three test hits to find your sweet spot.

I'm reading through the Zion thread starting on page one, currently on 46. I came across this post, and considering all the new owners showing up, figured this would be worthy of a repost.
Keep in mind this is one of the earliest units, but still seems to hold some useful information!

I would NOT recommend 30 to 40 seconds of constant heating without drawing on the production units.

AJS, thanks for digging this out! 30-40 sec preheat at 100% wakes the Zion up in a hurry!

With the production unit, 5 or 6 seconds is the maximum i would go from a cold start on full blast before drawing or turning down the voltage. I often preheat from cold for 5 seconds, then dial back about 25% for another 5 seconds before drawing. This is only from a cold start with fairly moist material. If the load is uber dry, or the unit is already preheated, you would likely be overheating by following this procedure.

@RastaBuddhaTao WTF. This Zion should come with some warnings. Especially for the over 55 crowd. My Grandma friend is having great great experiences with the Zion. HOWEVER,and this is a big HOWEVER,every time granny gets a mind bending hit she keeps losing her ability to keep from letting gas go. No shit(at least I hope) she's not happy unless she is getting huge rips. And it's happend 3 times. All with the Zion. I've loaned her my lsv and it doesn't cause this. It's only with the Zion. Wow I knew we had a face melting machine but damn.

Yes do not hold trigger for longer than 5sec without inhaling anywhere on the dial will be a warning in the quick card (dono when those will be included though...) Like 30 max overall too

It is resilient and is doubly fine low on the dial though, but still not advised or necessary with the production heaters. They were design so aside from a cold start, no preheat should really be necessary (and yeah Pak first had the glass insulators, he Kero and sticks, Alphas)

Aside from that those first use tips also helped inform the quick card and should be included with units soon enough (and on the website?)

So . . . . just in case anyone was wondering - I have put it to the test, the results have been analyzed, and I can confirm that the entire occupancy of the pub is in complete agreement that: the Zion stash spot is NOT smelly proof!

:leaf: :D :leaf:
I personally now see it as an extremely pleasant air infuser - and as long as I am fully aware of that fact, I am perfectly happy to leave a pungent yet sweet smelling trail wherever I go . . . safe in the knowledge that it will ultimately lead my way home . . .

THAT'S what I'm talkin about :)

Now where's that weedy witch's house? . . . . :brow:

Thank's to @vaplen.

Things are getting dialed in over here in stickyland. I've had too many vapes to test since I got my production Zion to really get things figured out (I know, you're bleeding for me). But my last two sessions came with 'wow' moments. It's that moment when your portable vape ceases to be portable, and is just a vape without anything lacking.

When you get your technique down, and it doesn't take long when you are using it regularly, it's an amazing vape. I can sit here and in three to five seconds have a satisfyingly thick hit and know that as soon as I am done, the unit will stop cooking the herbs. I'm getting hits for days, probably because it isn't wasting all that vapor cooking when I'm not hitting it.

I'm an odd bird in that I mostly use desktop vapes, because I like it rich. I've been reaching for the SSV for weeks now. The last two days since I got it dialed in I have been reaching for my Zion. For those of you who know me, let that sink in for a bit...

Good to hear you've found your groove @stickstones.

I certainly haven't wanted to put prod-Z down at all since I picked it up. And it consistently makes perfect sense and is so easy to reach for the Zion, that I'm having to consciously make time for my other vapes . . .

Each time, a little subconscious vape battle/analysis occurs in my head . . . & the results are that the Zion is proving very hard to beat just now. For me, it gives such a massive flavor profile, and delivers so much satisfyingly visible vapor, that I truly feel that the heater in this device is really doing a fantastic job of squeezing every last drop of goodness out of my precious material.

And I just can't argue with that.

Plus, the abv can be taken to whatever shade I desire - just pick my spot on the dial. . . . which makes me think of some sort of shading which could circle the dial . . . starting with a light green at the lowest end and progressively darkening, going through browns, until eventually reaching black at the very top end. . . . hmm . . . perhaps . . . but more likely, perhaps not :)

Anyway, I digress! The thing is, this new heater config kicks ass! Have I mentioned that? Anyway, after using this particular production model for the first time on Saturday, and being instantly blown away by it's speed, flavour & cloud producing abilities (in that order, 'cuz that's how it happened!), it now feels like I am wielding one hell of a lot of awesome power, whenever I hold the Zion in my hand.

Yeah.

What are your other vapes that you like to use?
I really get a kick out of using all of my vaporizers. And I truly love the variation in signature that a selection of vapes can provide, and using multiple devices - at least for me - keeps my tolerance in check, keeps me on my toes, and prevents me from falling into a vapor-rut.

After all, as the famous adage goes - "Vape variety is the spice of life" ;)

So um, o.k . . . . . I love to use all of my vapes, but some of those included in the current line-up, are:
  • Triihouse - Daisy; Lily; Peace; Duo
  • Vapman
  • MFLB
  • ExtremeQ
  • Cloud Evo
  • Sublimator Apollo
  • Mighty
  • Pax
  • Firewood 2.0
  • Cera
  • VapCap . . . . . er, that'll do

However, the Zion is definitely getting the lions share of use around here.

Now, does that help to add some perspective?
