Thanks for the video. Did you use a RBT screen in your adapter or was that an ELB or Extreme elbow screen? Thanks.

I don't use anything but Zion screens now. The new stems have a narrower ID that is too small for Arizer elbow screens, and I'm guessing ELBs as well. (I don't have an ELB).

I think milking a bong with Vapor has a lot to do with a nice steady draw, however one can certainly see from the exhale that there is lotttttts of vapour to be had!

Yeah, I need to develop a hitting routine. I'm working on it. The first part of the draw is pulling in the air from the bubbler, so I'm thinking I need to do a priming hit and exhale as soon as the vapour starts to appear. That will at least give me full lung volume to work with.

The quantity is there all right. I nearly turned my office into a hotbox.

Excellent @pakalolo thank you very much.

I blame you for all this.

Yea I'd just prime it! Not like it could take long with the zion. Draw till you build same vapor exhale then do whatever you can do! I'm loving the regulator on this too!
I'm guessing with direct draw and a quick pre heat, vapor would come pretty quick? Do you get noticeable exhale on the first hit of a bowl?

I can easily get thick vapour from the first hit, especially at high power settings but even at low power. I just can't make it look good when I'm using the WP-010. One of the reasons vapour looks thick is concentration. Since the hit is diluted with air that was already in the WP-010, it doesn't look as milky. I could make it look milkier with a well-placed light but that would be difficult to set up in my current environment, and I don't like the practice anyway.

With Pauahi, I usually wait 5 seconds before starting a hit, or 10 if it's the first hit from cold. How fast the vapour comes depends on the strain and state of the load. What I get after that depends on how long I keep pulling and how long I keep the button down. That's probably not helpful, but what it boils down to is that I find it easy to get Pauahi to do whatever I want.

Don't worry Pak, soon as I have my Zion in my hands you can take the day off.

Those milk shot vids are kinda ma thing :p

And there will be many to come.

Not that I'm noble or anything like that, but I did take one more for the team this morning.

I forgot to say that the load was ~.1 g in a Zion screen installed basket style in my new little friend that I brought home last night. I stopped by my LHS to look at their connectors, not hopeful but just in case. Wonder of wonders, I found an 18 mm male/male with a short joint and a small ID, almost exactly the specs of the new stems! You can see that it works nicely to connect to the WP-010, and I'm trying it out as a shorty stem at the moment.

I noticed though that you can get vapor in 5 seconds from cold when the bowl is fresh, but you need more preheat when starting from cold with a partially used load.

In fact at any given power setting you need to increase the preheat+draw time as the session progresses if you want to get the same hit size and concentration. Alternatively you can just increase the power, but that's kinda obivous... :)

@pakalolo About your 87% power vid, with the same setup, what if you preheat for too long? What happens?

To all the zion testers: Anyone test the zion to see if radiant heat can cook the bowl? What if you load the zion with the vape pointing up and hold the power for 30 seconds at 87% or higher power? Without taking a hit does it cook the herb at all? This is the swing and a miss scenario.

Aye aye

Too long of a preheat can result in combustion upon inhale - and believe me, you'll know all about it in an instant

And, as has been said previously, the Zion is pure and true convection. So, holding the fire button will fully engage the heater, but your load will not begin to roast until you start to draw and pass heated air through the material.

This test has been conducted during beta testing so you don't have to subject your production models to such punishment - I believe it will be advised not to exceed a 10 second preheat without drawing air through the device, as going beyond this threshold could cause damage to internal components and also void your warranty.

Sterling work on the cloud footage @pakalolo - persistence pays off.

Oh btw, Johnny#5 is still tearing up the scene around here. I have been full pump, pedal to the metal, white knuckle riding in this thing called 'life' just recently, so I haven't posted much. But it seems that you really can't keep a good vape down, and the goode Johnny Zion absolutely loves it on top!

First, keep in mind that there are several variations on the heater in the beta units, and that none of them are the production heater, including Pauahi. They are all similar in that the temperature curve rises quickly in the first 5-10 seconds, then flattens and continues to rise but quite slowly. With Jessica, I often used pre-heat times of 15-20 seconds at 50-75% power with no signs of overheating the load. I just gave Pauahi 30 seconds of pre-heat at 87% with a partly vaped load (therefore dry and easier to combust) and all I got was hot thick vapour. The load is pretty black now, but definitely no combustion.

The advice cited by @VegNVape might well be in the final manual, but as a beta tester it is my duty to break the rules, especially one like this. Lots of people will exceed 10 seconds of pre-heat if for no other reason than the Zion has gotten them so wrecked they forget to inhale. There's really not much reason to fear combustion with a Zion unless you are trying for it. There's only risk if you use high power with a long pre-heat and a really dry mostly vaped load. I can testify that the internal components will not be damaged by a pre-heat as long as 60 seconds.

Re radiant heat, this is an excerpt from my first posted impressions of Jessica:

The Zion is a power-on-demand convection design, with a virtually all-glass vapour path and a wood body. One of the first things I did was test the level of conduction. I put in fully charged batteries, then turned the power full up. I dumped a load of medium grind Jack Herer directly onto the screen at the bottom of the bowl, then held down the power button and used a strong light to watch for vapour. At 40 seconds, I detected a tiny wisp. When I examined the load, I could find no traces of heating. As far as I'm concerned, that's enough reason to call it a purely convection device.

That was Jessica from cold. Pauahi has a faster hotter heater, and I just did a similar test. I used Chocolope, which produces vapour more readily than Jack Herer, and Pauahi was already warmed up. I saw the first wisp of visible vapour at 32 seconds. I want you to know that just for you, I sacrificed all those tasty terpenes I would have gotten in the first hit from this Chocolope. For you and Science!

I confess. No harm done. I Will say if I do this at high temps, and take the hit anyway I CAN easily combust. But that is only likely to occur if I am TOO high or so involved in something else that I am really not present. And combustion doesn't really "sour" Venus in any way because it occurs at the end of the vape path in the stem and cleans up easily.

But I like it!
For you accidental combustors was it difficult to clean afterwards? I'm asking as I'm cleaning another HI screen and roasting tube, for like the 17th time in the past week. I'm obviously a crap multi-tasker, what with the PC in the vape lounge and all...

I'm not an accidental combuster where the Zion is concerned. I have, however, done it deliberately a few times, and had it happen when I intentionally engaged in risky behaviour so I don't consider that accidental.

The Zion cleanup after combustion is simple: dump the ash, brush out the bowl, carry on. Neither the stems nor the Zion itself retain any taste of combustion, at least not in my experience. The only cleanup I've needed was for the Orbiter or WP-010, which I'm usually using when I test to combustion. That bubbler water gets nasty.

Hey, cheers @poonman. And yes, of course brother . . . http://m.dhgate.com/product/2015-new-arrival-glass-bong-recycler-bubler/255417446.html#pd-019
(Sorry about the full ugly-looking address, FC link tools aren't working on my damn android no matter how many times I try 'em! :bang:)

There are several different sellers of it, but this was mine. It took it's sweet time to arrive too, & there are some small yet annoying air bubbles in the glass, but for the price (CHEEEEEAP!), the function & overall look is pretty damn good imo. It was worth the wait.

And, again imo, it pairs lovely with the goode Johnny here. Although I generally find it completely unnecessary to take the Zion to water, if I do fancy a good hit that I hardly know I'm taking - this definitely seems like a good way to achieve it!

I like having LOTS of options
