Discontinued Zion vaporizer

Hey @thekarmawhore! Have you done any drop tests? I have a feeling that if the Zion falls and hits on the wooden cover, the stem could possibly break if the cover doesn't attach very steady on the body...

Challenge accepted.

How about a steel dowel pin in the base and close-fit hole in the lid to take all the shock load in the event that when dropped it hits lid-first? The clearance holes to the glass are big enough that the pin takes the whole hit.

LMAO!

In the production units this will be covered by a panel of.... wood.... or mica... or glass... or brass... or copper.... or... anyone have any preferences?

Peace
RBT

Carbon Fiber, please.

ps. It was fun being gender indeterminate there for a bit. Is that TMI? My apologies in advance if it is.

Is this desktop power in a portable form? If it is, hopefully it's easy to load and reload. Take a page out of haze's book, but use screens instead of cans, like Arizer or evo elbs. It would be nice to have bullets to reload when necessary when out, instead of dumping and reloading. That would make it the perfect portable.

I'll raise your dowel pin and throw in a stir stick down into the body ;)

No swaying the audience with your sexy CAD renderings either @thekarmawhore lol

Thanks for getting the creative juices flowing... What cha got FC?

@mixchu69 we have a "basket cartridge" design in our patent portfolio ;). It will be intermingled with metal and artisan glass stem releases post launch. For now if you run the full .3g load that will keep you busy for awhile. The quick change will be more applicable with the stealth module.

It's getting better and better but the day… That should do it!

That's it! I knew we were forgetting something! Can it be a tamper as well? Or a small brush somewhere if there is enough space so it's all inclusive? I know it's already tight of course…

Please excuse the red electrical tape....It is covering the electronics....In the production units this will be covered by a panel of.... wood.... or mica... or glass... or brass... or copper.... or... anyone have any preferences

Well, if there are some kind of inner gubbinz behind the panel then I think something transparent such as glass would be cool.

It shows a certain honesty & I would find that being able to see some of the internal workings would allow me to connect with the device further.

Also, as this 'window into Zion' will be hidden underneath the cover, I think it would be a nice touch as when it's opened up you would get to see it's guts, so to speak.

And then, how about using some of the coloured glass you already plan to use for the stems, for the window pane? I imagine that would look cool too.

This is all as long as you don't feel that the additional glass would compromise the units durability, of course.

But the carbon fiber also looked good as favored by TKW. Plus, I would imagine it's much lighter, cheaper & less hassle to work with than glass.

That's just me anyway, I'm sure others have differing views . . . . :)

Ha ha! ;)

We have access to the largest selection of hardwood in the northeastern US so don't be surprised if you see a unit in an exotic purple wood in the near future.

:mmmm: purple wood, always wanted a vape with that... Maple will be fine though I guess lol

Love the stirrer/pin, was going to suggest it do double duty. Likewise nice thinking with the magnets and prepack bullets etc. Love the way this evolves everytime a new one is made, going to be a long fun ride...

I also think clear would be cool for the panel, but not glass at sacrificing durability. Some sort of clear plexiglass thing maybe? I dont know what's most durable, but I wouldnt say no to more wood or potentially carbon fiber if it matches

And never TMI @thekarmawhore, we're here to support you completely ;)

Naaa, I'd hate to add plastic, even nice plastic, to this natural looking device. I like that they went with wood for the cover. I'm sure plastic would have been a lot easier.

Now, down the road an ALL CF one might be nice. Like the stealthy model...

Or pull a Jyarz and do an all recycled plastic one.

I don't really understand it, but apparently 3D printers can now print out of interesting materials too, but for now I am likin wood.
Did I read that they can print ceramic now?

Duh. The google box is right there... I must be medicated.

I do understand where you are coming from with regards to using plastic but I'm pretty sure the panel in question is actually underneath the wooden battery compartment cover & therefore would not be seen during normal use.

However, I did wonder if people might be adverse to adding plastic to the feel of the Zion so that is why I was hoping that RBT might already have the aspect of durability covered with regards to glass - especially as he has suggested it to us as one of the options to consider. Plus, there is already glass in the unit anyway so maybe adding a bit more would make little difference?

Hmmmmm . . . . . .

GLASS GLASS GLASS!!!

Please.

:peace:

**EDIT** I would just like to acknowledge however, that Magic Flight have managed to make use of wood & plastic together to great success. And yet still maintain what many, including myself consider to be a very natural feeling & personable device in the form of their sweet little Launch Box.
BUT I do LOVE glass :peace:

@pakalolo coined the perfect term for what is going on here... CrowdBraining

Awesome input all! I know there are tons more people lurking with good ideas... Come on all, there is no bad ideas!

I like the glass idea. Well protected by the wood so limited breakage risk but we will do our drop test and see. I think it fits well with the retro vibe playin' out. Wood would be too thin in this application. For metal I like copper because it matches the battery bus bar but that would be expensive... Which leaves me with Stainless because it matches all the flow path metal ;)

I'm all about the glass, but as far as metals are concerned whats the cost effectiveness of polished aluminum. In the future this could be a really cool option for having a few different choices to customize units.Rasta keep this shit up and your gonna have trouble finding big enough realestate to keep up with your companys growth.

Sorry, I was a little off base there. I thought we were talking about the battery panel, pointing outside the device and visible to the world. I went back to post #501 and I see you are actually talking about a panel inside protecting the electronics. Completely different. Again, wood would be nice but if not practical, any natural(ish) material, including CF, would be fine with me. Glass, copper, SS. Almost anything but plastic. To me the CF would be the least natural but inside would not bother me.

I was concerned about the visual and tactile integrity of the Zion, and that is not at risk here.

I am really counting on the Zion to avert me from getting an eNano... :) I really don't want to mess with cords... I also hope I won't have to change the batteries every few months like the Crafty! ;)

Congratulations on what looks to be a very exciting product.
I have read through the entire thread and believe your process of involving the many experts involved with the FC community has greatly improved your product. I am some what new to vaping at up until 2014 I still preferred high end glass and combusting. Since switching to vaporizing I rarely return to combusting. My current vapes are both considered portables and one has a gong adaptor that easily mates to my glass when at home. The vape through water experience has won over several long time combustors and is my Favorite for cool flavorful blue clouds. I tried signing up for the first 100 but was given an invalid username /password warning. I would like to get in on this initial offering and wish you success with your product launch.
Thanks!

natural farmer you and myself are 2 of the same mind.
I'm looking at the zion like a log vape with a power button.
Almost every video of a person using a log vape with a glass piece they knock all the shit over on their table.Hell I get frustrated just watching them fumble with the chord.
But trust me this is going to be my daily portable also.
Damn I get all geeked up every time I open this thread up.

@MrRare thanks for taking the time to catch up and joining in on crowdbraining the Zion with the FC team. We are using the standard 19 mm joint on the Zion to enable it to be easily adapted for h2o and are excited to have experienced folks like yourself hook it up. We have reserved a few select users such as yourself. Send me a PM with your email address and I will personally make sure you get added to the overflow list. Please post your ideas on how to best adapt the Zion on this thread. We plan at some point to do a glass specific Zion for home use.

Welcome to the Team!

@MikeInMiami a natural quartz or slab of some mineral would be dope!
