You made me correct my previous post but apparently I wasn't completely wrong in the first place. While in practice it might be impressive for you, it is still the device Achile's heel, as with all current convection vapes: here's a post by @OF in another thread explaining why, with numbers - http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-grasshopper.9952/page-141#post-740742
And I agree with his prediction that the Grasshoper will top at most at 5mins of continuous operation per cell. Now maybe we should use another metric and really think in terms of bowls per session instead, as convection vapes are not like conduction ones.
Here we will have two advantages on top of that: the Zion will have two good cells and not just a single tiny one, and they will be easily swappable.
PS: for the Zion team I'm unsure it's that good of an idea to give your device blueprints away for the Chinese to steal...
...but patent(s) or not, you will get copied anyways in the end...

That was pretty damn impressive cloud I'd say, plus size of the unit in hand and its aesthitics look phenomenal. I think I'll definitely be in for one as soon as possible...
@KeroZen personally, I feel we may see something unique and more revolutionary than we were suspecting with the Hopper, but I know very little about battery chemistry. I just believe, maybe battery dies after 10 or 20 min on high temp sessioned, but in my opinion that may be ok. Also they have a custom designed and built batteries so who knows for sure?
And like the Zion they have a custom designed heater as well. These are new (inventions?) ideas with new patents, so I expect them all to surprise us with something new, hopefully something better right?
Also with on demand to precise temperature heating, its easier to make batteries last a long long time if they can be used efficiently on lower temps, and if theh retain charge well being turned off and on. And with replaceable batteries its even less of an issue overall ( though you do want some decent baseline level), especially for trips, sessions, and groups (not to mention longevity).
Adding to the reasons I am also really looking forward to getting my hands on a Zion!

Wow Mike... That is quite the complement and we are honored! Thanks for the words of encouragement we are determined to finalize the design as quickly as possible but will not shortcut our rigorous quality and performance testing prior to launch. If things stay on schedule like they have been we will be taking orders late next month.

Kero another variable is the size of the load. The Zion has an adjustable load chamber so depending on the size of the load the number of bowls would vary. Maybe it makes sense to have the metric be pre-weight of product at a given temperature (or visual indication of ABV)?
We did think long and hard about how much information we release and that is why no detail was given to the actual heater technology. From the pictures / post you can see that it is a wood body vaporizer with glass joints with a power switch and a temperature control... feel that the PDF doesn't reveal any more that that but please let me know if you think we are giving way too much.
We will be shipping the units with a sealed heater and electronics compartment but if someone wants to they can tear the unit apart and see. It will take some material analysis to determine what the actual material it is. Our plan is to launch with a rock solid vaporizer (we are on prototype build number 5 now and will do two more builds prior to launch) and flood the market quickly. We also plan to launch at an aggressive price point (thus the Karma Whore's work to make the most efficient design and not add anything that the customer doesn't value) and are doing rigorous quality control and believe we will have outstanding reliability due to the intentional simple nature of the device. We believe these steps will keep us ahead of the Chinese. At the pace we are moving at we will have the next advancement in technology before they knock-off what we are doing today. The patent that was filed not only has this technology but 10 others that lend themselves better to high volume manufacturing
With the help of the folks on this forum we will surely advance this infant technology at a breakneck pace creating more reliable, higher quality and more cost effective devices that are exactly what the customer wants... as well as guilt anyone that buys a knock-off...lol. In all seriousness, I think having a the Chinese attempt to copy our design would be a good problem to have. The RBT team has humbly enjoyed all the good karma so far. The team is excited to hear from the users of the beta units over the next few weeks. But from the early indications... the Zion Rocks!
Thanks! The new design is more ergonomic, sleeker and smaller... but yeh, the 2x4's don't look half bad all joking aside... and yes the clouds are staggering if that is your thing.
The grasshopper design is impressive and we plan to be that small, powerful and efficient in time. But for now, the Zion will leverage 2 batteries and a .3g load chamber to put the technology in use as refine it with customer feedback as well as some focused R&D... but the product build-out plan does include a single battery LCD display unit that will be stealth
Knowing that the Grasshopper technology was released before mine I reached out to them to check to see that I am not infringing on their patent. It is cool to be a part of the creation of highly efficient battery preserving technology that is specifically designed for the portable market. What an exciting time for vaporizing... really feel that the world is ready to say "Fuck Combustion"

Wow! Thanks for the kind words but it is I that feel truly blessed to be a member here and interface with such bright people that are willing to take the time to care. I am hard at work finishing Mr. Peanuts 2x4 as well as reviewing the design with my wood worker. You all will be glad to know that we are working on the cover as well. I think we have something in mind that you will like
If schedule holds true we will be taking preorders in late March unless issues emerge with the Beta testing but initial results are going well and it is really down the technical of the manufacturing and assembly process and tweaking ergonomics and esthetics at this point.... Technology has proven to be Rock Solid and the performance of the 2x4's over the metal prototype is surprisingly much better.

Hmmm metal prototype you said... could be an idea for a product variant in the future maybe? Wood is warm to the touch and metal is cold... I like both... If you offered the Zion with the two possible shells I don't know which one I would prefer in fact... and with electroplating/anodizing/coating endless color possibilities...

Yes, you are absolutely correct…my mistake, I did not realize this Thread was 7 pages long until after I made my input. I'm pretty new to this Forum(All Forums operate differently so I'm still in the process of figuring everything out) and am not used to how to maneuver around yet. But being that I do not like to hear excuses, even from me, I will learn from this experience and do better from here on out!!!

The wood and glass on glass is the dignities of the Zion along with its VoC stain. The wood @cybrguy hit the nail on the head in that the wood is the perfect starter medium in that we can make design changes rapidly which is not possible in metal unless you machine it and it is expensive and slow to machine. Wood also gives both electrical and thermal insulation and we saw an improvement in efficiency when we went to wood.
Now that's not saying we don't do a steam punk or machined anodized aluminum in the future... The Karma Whore is hands down the best designer I have ever worked with and if you look through the concept gallery you will see some of his handy work.
For now is all about refining the Zion to be a rock solid reliable well built hand crafted work of art that is made to the highest of quality standards. Once the technology is stable moving it to other platforms is a winch since we started with the hardest first... On demand pure convection technology.... So your camping... Here is the car charger, your home, through in the AC adapter and plug it in, have some friends coming over... Fire up the coffee table unit or through the AC heater box on your favorite water piece, headed out for a jaunt... Grab the stealth Zion single battery with LCD display... The possibilities will be endless and the customers will always have a voice and be part of every RastaBuddhaTao design.
