My Mind Is Free
Yeah, I am waiting on a ps3 dl to finish and just keep typing and posting without thinking. Boredom at its finest.
I'm actually getting anxious about this vaporizer. So excited I'm anxious and feel like buds aren't worth it until it arrives, well on the go that is. At home the underdog will be there for me ALWAYS, so the zion is exactly what my collection needs. The mighty just sits in the box now. I use the firefly but it doesn't pack enough ooomph lately. Prob needs new battery.... I've been using more oil than ever between the drought of QUALITY buds around here, and the knowledge that I want to vape with full convection only. I need a zion in my life, then I can wait patiently for the single battery unit, and actually start using buds again.
I was going to be happy with just a Grasshopper, but there's no way I'm waiting until Dec (at the earliest). Just placed my order, even happier that I got it for this price AND the insurance of the lifetime warranty.
Question, is this shipping early October? Will I be placed on some backlog and have to wait longer because I just preordered?
I guess it comes down to, when are they going to start shipping and have they made enough to fulfill the preorders?
I contemplated a few times posting something negative about the Zion, maybe out of a contradictory spirit or I don't know... Everyone is so happy, it makes it sounds like it's the perfect device, the Holy Grail! And we don't even have the finished product in our hands with the extra polish and details...
But so far, I found pretty much nothing important to report... I was for instance tempted to say, that it might not be well suited for people enjoying sipping and small hits, as it tends due to its free-flowing air path to require larger inhalations. And it's true that this vape invites you to go big as it's very generous, and furthermore, because it is really able to follow you and deliver.
It doesn't mean you can't take small hits. In fact, I feel like a miniature man when I read the other testers inhalation times! I just measured my average time with the Zion and it's between 5 and 10 seconds of continuous inhalation (but more often closer to 5 than to 10) and of course I hit it dry all the time. No water/glass filtration of any kind.
So yes, I can confirm that it works, but... it's inefficient, energy-wise. And using it this way I'm not getting as many bowls per battery set compared to the above reported values. But let's not forget that we can't make any direct comparison: Ashton is an alpha Zion and is not working on the same voltage as the production units, it has a different heater configuration and materials, and on top of that I'm using 2500mAh's cells (vs 2900 for most others) Giving you any figure would be pointless, but it's considerably lower.
The inefficiency stems from the fact that every hit comes with the pre-heat time penalty. Put simply, if you need to pre-heat say 5 seconds before each hit, it's more efficient to inhale 10 seconds in one hit rather than taking two 5 seconds hits each with a 5 seconds pre-heating. And everytime you are not hitting it, it cools down. The more you wait, the more pre-heat you will need next time. The time it took me to write this paragraph for instance will make me need to do a long pre-heat again, almost like a cold start.
The few times were I completely drained my cells down to not getting any vapor anymore from the device, was when I was distracted and not focused on what I was doing with Ashton. Like reading forums, with a movie playing in the background and doing internet shit... You know... If you stretch the session too long with the Zion, you are not going to get that many bowls out of a charge. I bet you could possibly drain a full set by stretching a single bowl over a couple hours...
But you see it's not really a problem per se, and even less a Zion specific one. All battery powered portable units have the same issue. It's just worth noting at least, and kinda frustrating because it's so good to know that whenever you put it down on the table, it's not going to spoil your bowl for more than a few seconds, as the conduction heating is practically inexistant. Meaning it's tempting to really drive it at your own pace, and be as laid back as you want, with you being in control of the device, not the inverse.
There is one thing that I can blame the Zion for though, and I kinda secretly hate @RastaBuddhaTao for it: Ashton simply spoiled me, plain and simple! I used to be perfectly happy with my vaporizers, and bam, the guy crossed my door, he installed his base camp on my living room table, and in no time he managed to make himself essential and dependable. I thought at first he was too strong for me, knocking me down everytime violently. I decided to leave him at home and reserve our conversations for late at night before bed time...
That's pretty much how it started. Everytime we interacted, such a "wow" effect. So powerful. So easy... Too easy. That's the problem. It's a lure... Because one day you wake up, go outside with your smaller portables, which you used to love until that day, and you realize... that they don't satisfy you anymore. They leave you half craving... And you understand you are hooked, but it's too late... Curse you RBT!
I believe you will want an 18.8mm m/m adapter. I have the same piece (sans logo, of course) and it should mate nicely with the Zion. I plan on mating the two myself.hello again~ I was going to order this bubbler from dh

and have no experience with adapters/gongs, was wondering if someone is planning to have the same/similar setup and which adapters should I be looking into?
still super excited. this will be my first vape-bubbler exp, coming from mflb+pa for two and a half years.

This is a V.1 so yours will have a better perc lower in the can.
Ask the vendor you are getting it from for a Male2Male instead of a bowl or other crappy nail.
Or order one from @Oregonglassblower and tell him it's for the Zion.
That IS what you want, tho the picture is of a 18M to 14M. If you are gonna spend that much for it definitely get it from Mike. He will custom it however you like. Have him make it an inch longer, for some circumstance you may need that.
