@nosmoking I dont want the teachers to have to do this either. What do you suggest? You know the gun ban was in affect at the time Columbine happened. So what do you suggest? Just curious...As far as why anyone needs an Evil black rifle......I never wanted one until my government told me I cant have one. Thats good enough for me. Others use them in compitition. The only stores protected during the Rodney King riots in LA had Evil assault rifles posted on the roofs. Then the cops came and took their guns away. Then guess what happened? They were luted as soon as the cops left. I could go on for hours on this topic. Doesnt make me right but I do have the right.

I gave suggestions concerning schools. As far as semis and fully autos I do say put a ban on them just because they come here and gonstraight to other countries and feed terrorists and guerrilla armies.

Also, I am not trying to take your gun or your right to have one...however there is a much more limited need to walk around with a gun freely then gun owners impose. Its more desire than need.

Funny thing is...most gun owners can tell you more stories about stupid things they have done with their guns than they can tell you of heroic things they have done or used them for. I had my father in law trying to argue why he needs his guns so bad, yet he is going to court for shooting a bullet into his neighbors house because he was not smart enough to aim up when shooting at annoying birds. It really does make me wonder why such people can have access to guns so easily.

Lastly, I own a gun and have owned others and shot plenty. I grew up in a tiny neighborbood of hunters and fisherman. I am like the guy on youtube that cut his gun into pieces. I hear what gun owners are saying, but your desires to own and shoot guns just are not as valueable as life itself.

@OldNewbie This is another reason against registering guns! Ots also why I cringe wjen they want to make laws taking guns from people with mental issues. I am sire that statememt made a few cringe. If I go to the doctor and I am given somethong for depression you want the cops to take my guns. GOOD LUCK GETTING THEM BACK! I am also against legalization...thats right I said it. With legalization I fear sobriety test that we dont have now. I have so much THC in me I should never legaly be able to drive! Also I fear cross examination of gun and MJ data bases.

It sounds like you should move onto an ungoverned island so you wont have any laws to follow. I have similar concerns with driving, however I don't feel it is justice to arrest and lock up millions of people just to make sure I don't break a law I wont like.

Non-gun person in the U.S. here.

I don't really understand the point of owning a firearm. Having a gun in your residence does not make you safer and it increases your risk for sudden death. We'd be better off repealing the second amendment and phasing out firearm ownership.

But then the government will absolve us because we will be rendered powerless against them. My gun is my only safeguard for protecting myself from the government.

Please note the sarcasm!

8man Thats like me saying....Non smoker here. I dont find a use for it so you cant either. As far as banning guns....Hitler Stalin and others agree with you.

HERE IS THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION.....NOTHING! Nothing can be done to stop the crazy people that do this shit! Every law passed will just be passed to make you feel better. If someone wants to kill they will find a way.

8man...i thought the same up until the time i had an intruder trying to get in my home in the early hours of the morning with a newborn in the house...was a repeated event and i know how fast 911 works. i dont think you not owning a gun (or even wanting others not to have it) invalidates your point or perspective, i respect it entirely.

step one: less guns. which guns? the ones typically used in mass shootings.
step two: make sure step one remains.

@crawdad you just explained the Dems. stance on guns. Make the evil ones illigal.....soumds good....but every few years they will pic another gun to ban which will end up being a full ban on guns. Give an inch and they will take a mile!

i explained my stance on the situation at hand, you can wrap it up anyway you want so i become categorized and marginally associated with other issues i didnt mention such that my point becomes watered down in hashtags or sides of a predominately binary political system but we each have a point that is worth considering especially if its different than our own, how else are we to evolve our society?

what if an inch turns into a mile? we dont need to resist appropriate change just because we are concerned with what our society might do down the road. hell, if pot becomes legal everywhere i mean, wow, just think of the shit that will come from that, right?

That's the fastest I've ever been associated with Hitler and Stalin! Maybe you should consider the relaxing effects of cannabis.:peace:

The smoking analogy makes some sense in that cigarettes are also harmful and serve no useful purpose. However, I won't go off-topic here to discuss the merits of a smoking ban.

You're right that a determined killer will find a way. Doesn't matter if you're armed or not.

That's terrible. I've been in the same situation; had multiple break-ins with three kids in the house. We now have an alarm and a very noisy and annoying dog. May not work in your situation but it's worked for us. Honestly, I'd be more worried about accidentally shooting one of my kids or a neighbor if I tried to confront an intruder with a gun.

I’m all for folks owning a gun but not machine guns. No teachers carrying guns either.

Inside a classroom is too small and so are the hallways for anyone with a gun. It would be too easy for a teacher to shoot a student. I’m curious if our president has ever been in a public school?

Our local schools carry out monthly bad person on campus drills. Finally our schools in our district are just starting to remodel with safety in mind. All the doors will have the card lock. One entrance only for visitors with a camera by the front door monitored by video. If the administration staff doesn’t know the person they won’t be allowed in. None of the money for the remodeling was given by the feds. It’s paid by the tax payers of the state.

I can’t get over the rediculious statement about teachers carrying guns. It’s just too over the top. The NRA thought that was a good idea. What does that say?

Get trained security guards at schools.

Edit
Every time there is a mass shooting at a school or some venue gun sales go up. Folks are probably buying machine guns in groves because they are worried they won’t have them anymore. I dont know if the lawmakers are smart or wise enough to get rid of machine guns. Don’t piss off the NRA.

Seriously? You had an intruder in your house at gunpoint and you would be more worried about hitting your kids or a neighbor?

What's the alarm for? A wake up call for an "energy" cigarette?

That's not to say that everyone should be armed. It is a huge responsibility and training is a big part of ownership. If you don't think you will spend the time considering things like how to reduce the risk of hitting things other than what you want to stop and then putting those considerations into effect, it might not be a good thing to be armed.

@CarolKing Parkland just had drills. Great for afterwards but won't stop a murderer. It really doesnt matter if Trump has been in a classroom....calm your hate. If I was in that classroom I would hope and pray that someone has a gun. You know this isn't Trumps idea right? Do you know there are teachers that are voluntering to carry? Do you know that this is how Israel fixed this? It's not as crazy as you make it to be.

PLEASE STOP SAYING MACHINE GUNS! They are not using "machine guns :bang:

On another note, how do you feel about the (alleged) shooter?

On one level, to me he is a scumbag that deserves nothing from us but a swift death for his crimes. So many don't get to see another day because of the horrible Cruz. On another, when you see the picture, he's just a kid. A poor, sad, kid who had a bullied, lousy life and the only person who took care of him died--leaving him essentially on his own.

  1. Perhaps I should have added that I live in a fairly dense housing area.
  2. Don't know if you have kids, but when there's a commotion in the house they tend not to stay put. Having an intruder at gunpoint is not the issue. The issue is recognizing that there's a threat while you're half asleep, getting a gun out of a safe and ready to fire. Then locating the intruder and aiming while being confident you're not about to hit a kid behind the intruder (or behind a wall). A kid who's also half asleep and wandering around trying to figure out what the fuck is going on.
  3. I'm going to assume the alarm question is a joke.
  4. I hope gun owners are well trained and thoughtful about their firearms. I am pessimistic that this is the case. If guns where prohibitively inaccessible, such training would be unnecessary.

For the families of those killed there's no revenge that could bring them satisfaction. And for Cruz, I hope he could be rehabilitated enough to understand that what he did was wrong and that because of his actions he can never be free again.

1. Frangible bullets.
2. If the kid is wandering between you and an intruder, don't forget about the intruder problem and why the firearm in the first place.
3. The "energy" cigarette was a joke. I watched Tobor a lot more than Gigantor growing up. As to the alarm, that was serious. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
4. I would love for all adults to be responsible in all their adulting. I agree, they are not.

1) Don't start getting into what kind of ammunition. It'll just attract meatheads wandering into the forum writing about how "ONLY PUSSIES SHOOT LESS THAN 45!". Frangible bullets are a half-baked solution to a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place. Which leads me to number...
2) Knowing that a firearm in my residence statistically does not make me or my family safer and it increases our risk for sudden death is the reason why I DON'T have a firearm in the first place. Not sure how having a gun improves a situation where I have a kid standing between me and an intruder.
3) Tobor is too old school for me, but I loved the "8man After" OVA. Gigantor always reminds me of the Dickies cover. The alarm is to make a very loud sound. This lets the intruder know that police are on the way (even if minutes) and if they intended to steal something their window of opportunity is severely diminished. Also, it lets the intruder know that all occupants in the house know of their presence and are taking active measures against them.
4) At least we can agree on this. And also :leaf:.

I wouldn’t agree that this kid (the shooter) getting the death penalty. Of course he should never be let out either. He should have a life sentence. I agree with @OldNewbie this kid got short changed in life. He had a sad life. It’s too bad that nobody in law enforcement didn’t intervein at some point. We need more help with teens and adults that are mentally ill.

I wonder why the police officer didn’t go inside to help when he heard the gun shots? Maybe because he heard the machine gun and knew he wouldnt have much of a chance? Just curious. I would like to hear him speak before everyone calls him a coward. Who knows, maybe he was afraid.

Edit
Far as the drills go. Many more students and staff would have been shot and killed if they hadn’t been practicing drills. The drills are something that schools have to practice so students know what to do. It’s too bad that we live in an era that this is a necessity. It’s really a sad fact.

I hesitate to get too much in the weeds when we're still getting the facts out, but, the kid was said to have been contacted multiple times by law enforcement. One of the issues to be discovered is why the armed and uniformed deputy sheriff on the scene (Who did not act as police are currently trained for an active shooter situation.) refused to communicate his knowledge of Cruz to state social services when they were doing an investigation about one of his prior violent incidences. (Again, allegedly.)

1. Since we've always had crime and people living in the same house, I assume by "problem that shouldn't exist in the first place" you want to eliminate firearms. Fair enough. But, you raised a specific problem and I gave a reasonable course to reduce the risk. If others have the same fear, I hope I put it to bed. But, it seems it may have been a bit disingenuous on your part to raise it if you didn't want to deal with it.
2. I'm not a number. Statistically, I'm asian. Just like everyone else in the world. I agree I am statistically more likely to die a sudden death because I have a firearm in the house. Now, compare the risk to myself from myself and the risk to myself from others. The former is not a problem to me, the later is. But, we're not playing a dice game where statistics tell us the odds, we're dealing with life. If 50% of the people have been shown by studies to never be able to be a good doctor and you have a doctor in front of you, what are the odds of him not being a good doctor? (Hint, it's not 50/50.)
3. a. Get off my lawn.
b. Your defense against intruders is to have them think you're going to do something?
c. If so, good thing they don't know if you are armed or not.

Close wall? I would image in a larger area with more room to get out or away from the shooter would be an advantage for the students and staff. They would have more of a chance to get away. In a classroom there is no exit for the students also close walled hallways kids would panic and be all over the place and could easily get shot from a teacher with a gun. The shooter with a machine gun has the advantage against someone with a handgun. I’m surprised only 17 people were killed.

It’s been really sad hearing from all the victims in all this.

Edit
If it’s not a machine gun it’s a gun that shoots off many bulletproof at one time. Whereas killing more people very quickly. It’s a weapon of war is what I’m hearing. Is that wrong?

I’m not for taking people’s rifles and hand guns. I’m for thorough back ground checks. A person should be 21 to buy a gun.
