Which torch for Oil Rig.

Hi Guys,


I've finally taken the plunge and ordered a proper concentrates rig from the US via ebay,

I spent ages looking online for places in the Uk but obviously couldn't find the right search terms, anyway I was just wondering if one of those cheap pen type blow torchs would be good enough to heat up the nail?

I'm somewhat sceptical as all the vids I've seen on youtube the guys use somewhat bigger ones.

In my opinion, you don't want a "pen torch" for an oil rig. They can be really inconsistent and run out of butane fast. I bought a bernzomatic pen and could never get the sucker to even light.

So it might work, but if you haven't ordered it yet I'd get something different.

It should work just fine. Butane burns at the same temperature (so long as it's a real torch not a bic) regardless of the container size, you'll just have to refill it more often.

Personally I'd rather just go to my local hardware store and pick up a propane nozzle for the same price and not worry about refilling it but if you want something small/convenient, that works.

Wouldn't want a propane nozzle for a lil glass nail! They shatter easily enough with a regular torch flame.

Although you are right that it should work fine. My pen might have just been built extra crappy.

I would absolutely ditch the nail / dome setup as soon as possible, and go with some form of domeless. The difference in hit quality is night and day on a domeless vs a nail/ dome rig. The nail doesnt seem to be able to consume most of the material and it dirtys up fast. The kings moat style domeless is the way to go IMO

I would absolutely ditch the nail / dome setup as soon as possible, and go with some form of domeless. The difference in hit quality is night and day on a domeless vs a nail/ dome rig. The nail doesnt seem to be able to consume most of the material and it dirtys up fast. The kings moat style domeless is the way to go IMO

you'll be able to fit any quartz/glass/ti nail on that rig so long as it matches the size of the male joint on the rig, they are generally 14mm, 18mm, and 10mm. it does not say on the auction what it is, so i would contact the seller. it looks like a 14mm to my eyes tho.

as for torches, i like my crême brûlée torch. i got mine at bed Bath and beyond. not sure if they have those in the uk, but im sure there's some sort of home goods/kitchen supply type store near you.

Well, except for those of us who LIKE a dome, for our own reasons. At certain times.

I've gotten a nice Victor torch. It's a little fiddly, but I'm learning it well.

i have this one for my vapocane and vaponic, not sure if a oil rig is comparable with one of these, but it works great and it's a monster of a torch lighter. very solid. also you can change the angle of the flame!
