Severe insomnia here.. Over the years have had 3 sleep centers tests. Outcome was mild sleep apnea. Find it hilarious since the last testing I had to go back twice since I couldn't sleep at all. Tried CPAC and was no help. I vape but it only helps with the anxiety I get from not being able to sleep.. But I have to remedicate since I only sleep an hour and half at a time usually less. Recently went out of town and had no meds. Didn't sleep for 3 days.. Was terrible. Lots of info here so need to go over it all.
Yes both centers were certified. The last time had me going back because I didn't sleep at all and second time was the same. Were these certified sleep centers? Or sleep 'labs' that the healthcare group sent you to? I went to the Stanford sleep clinic a number of times eons ago (they monitored and tested for any kind of sleep disorder), and in the last 5 years was sent to a sleep lab, where there was no real sleep tech, and all the telemetry (no infrared record of the test, apparently not looking for restless leg or periodic limb movement disorders.) All telemetry appeared to be shipped automatically to a polysomno doc offshore to read and determine if you had OSA.
You really want to be evaluated in a certified sleep clinic, who will evaluate you for ALL sleep disorders, not just OSA. They may crack the insomnia nut for you.
Before my cancer diagnosis, I was the BigPharma guinea pig for the Pain Management Group I used, copious amounts of Ambien CR were in the mix... I DO NOT recommend that stuff. While I can't take melatonin 'cause it's contraindicated with my cancer, most people can. Better yet, or in addition to.. chewable L-Theanine has proven helpful with my father's insomnia... others try Trypophan too. Just be careful with tryptophan if you're taking a prescription anti-depressant, you do not want to cause a serotonin storm!!
Some of the terpenes (I think Myrcene and Linalool if I recall correctly) are involved in sleep, along with the presence of CBN. CBD is helpful for dropping anxiety levels, and helping with depression, but I haven't had it actually help me sleep aside from those aspects. A profile typical of the more 'couch lock' style indica's, although some if not many of us have a paradoxical reaction (I responded really well to Trainwreck <sativa>, but haven't been able to find any GOOD Trainwreck in years, it's either been mislabeled or the varietal drift that has occurred fundamentally changed it's profile.)
My Emerald Triangle 'brother' Erik and his brother Dr. Jay were 2 characters who were behind Trainwreck and prominent figures in the early medical cannabis movement... they are greatly missed
I was trying to see if I could go without one med they prescribed from Stanford with all the various forms of cannabis I've been using... but in the last week discovered that it hasn't really worked on EVERYTHING. But I'll take what is has worked on, no problem!
Good luck!
The only edible I tried was a chocolate candy bar that was recommended. Small dose and nothing but continued uping my dosage with still no results. Recently bought Terpofx Sleep Elixie same results.I so hear you...
I get maybe 1 2-3 hour nap a day, if I'm lucky I get two.
Personally, I have not responded to oral CBD oil, except perhaps for the concentrate made by Care By Design, they have a 4:1 syringe of CO2 oil,
and that worked.
My next batch of medibles, I'm going to try using the edible CBD oil I bought from
CWBotanicals (Charlotte's Web folks in CO) along with the various other concentrates I've got. If you don't respond to edibles, you might look into using digestive enzymes along with them (many people are low in HCL and enzymes, especially if they've been using antacids). Edibles are the only thing that really works on me... vaping is for breakthrough pain and only last 20-30 min, where the edibles are good for 3-4 hours.
Not sure if the amount of CBN increases in ABV, I thought it was an oxidation process that occurred over time (exposure to light helped too).
I do recall one company making an edible that had CBN in it, sadly, brain-farting on the name.
Have you tried any of the other remedies I mentioned?
Will try to use it. How do you guys arrange it near your bed. I was thinking of buying a headboard and placing the unit behind a headboard on some object like a night table.
I got diagnosed with central sleep abnea about a year ago I was surprised I only weighed about 135 pounds and I'm 5,6 but central is when the brain isnt telling the tounge to move so i guess it can happen to anyone! I think they told me i was having like a small eppisode every minute or 2. Now ii get like 3 every night with the cpap! I absolutely hated the mashine in the beginning but after like 2 months I got used to it and I love it now! Wearing it for like 20 or 30min before bed while reading or something did seem to really help for whatever reason! And messing aroumd with the mashine with different temps helps 2! If i don't wear it now I feel like a zombie throughout the day lol!
Which is why he needs to get checked and have a sleep study- to determine if he needs a cpap, bipap, or whether a dental appliance would work. Not something anyone can determine, including a doctor, without data.@Dutchem, when I read "mild apnea", insomnia and anxiety it makes me think "UARS!" Patients who have UARS have different needs from those with OSA because of the anxiety. They will most likely be happier on BiPAP than ordinary CPAP. Read about UARS (I compiled a list here https://pastebin.com/2rWSxqps) and look for a doctor who is specialized in UARS. Barry Krakow MD is well known, look him up.
@Kosherbubba, you have a ResMed unit with something called "EPR." It might be turned off right now. You can set it to 1, 2 or 3, which are the degrees by which it makes exhaling easier.
I know this is off the thread but thanks for the suggestion. My eyes are so dry without the cpap that it interferes with my sleep. Adding the face mask and having the warm air blowing in my eyes is pretty intolerable. Right now I have a resmed air fit f10.Have you tried the F&P Simplus? It's a little bigger than the mask I started with (ResMed Quattro Air) but it works really well for me. I've been happily using the same cushion for a year now.
