Water Curing your bud

yep I ever try it and I prefer the normal ''air curing'' cause water curing remove 90% of the flavor ...the water curing is made to remove chlorophil, humidity an to raise thc % (in a gram less chloro, less water = more thc in % )what is good when you smoke it but for vaporizing i wont change anything remove the taste of your buds .... to me water curing is like and anti-curing, your bud became extra dry, kind a brown/grey color and taste/smell less ....I prefer my herb lil puffy (not too dry) and with a lot of taste soo :2c:

the only time ive given my plants a water cure is when they had a partial outbreak of the spidermites. only half of the plant was contaminated, so i had a good comparison between the regular dried and cured stuff and the water cured batch.

through the vaporizer, there was very little, if any noticeable difference in taste. the smell tho was greatly lessened in the water cured stuff, it was an undeniably smooth hit and it had a brownish grey hue to it that made it look considerably less appealing. picking up a nug of the same size you could feel how much lighter the wc was. due to some of the outer trichs having come off during the water cure process, id have to say that the potency was only very slightly less. break open a nug of each batch, and aside from the color, youre looking at exactly the same picture. itd be like comparing your average nug that is in a plastic baggy to its sister nug that has never been outside a jar.

the water cure will also give the nugs a denser finish.

personally, i think of water curing as a quick fix, ill give you one of the few situations i can see myself doing it
that situation is if i was out of bud, and i had some plants that had just finished, i would water cure maybe 3/8 oz and then use that while i waited for the rest of the bud to air cure

water curing what?

naah...i'll doing that only if my plant drop in the mud when it is almost ready to harvest...just to clean up...i hope this never happens to my babies....water curing to me sounds like a good method to get a big amount of mold instead of delicious fruits.
I hate mold so much for hi humidity levels in my area as a constant issue to me!

Dry air is the only way to cure your plant...why waste all that work done?

So when you water cure there is no need to jar cure?
from the extreme thread, im replying here so as not to derail that thread further

whe you water cure there is no need to jar cure, basically the only advantage of the water cure is that its completeley done in 7 days, but you lose much of the water soluble terpenes and stuff that give the bud its flavor, and flavor is a huge element of the vape experience, as opposed to smoking, where the flavors are way less delicate

the health benefits of water curing is that you wont be smoking any of the chlorophyll or the plant sugers that the water removes from the bud, but when you vape, all that stuff stays in the vape duff anyway, and you sacrifice the flavor experience when you take those first couple of hits off the bowl

and to marcuss, mold shouldnt be an issue at all, after the water cure process, you dry the but with a food dehydrator

i disagree about the bud losing its flavor. on 2 of the strains that i water cured, the taste of the vaped buds was not very different from a standard cut and dry operation.

ohrly?
good, we have someone that has experience with vapes AND water curing, please tell us more!

if the difference in the experience is negligible then i might consider just water curing, or at least water cring a higher portion of the harvest in order to see which way i liked better

food dehydrator?
hahhaaa.....i can't believe that.......anyone has already tried a cloth drier???.....maybe you can also do some expresso hash in the same time :lol::lol:

My opinion....don't wash your plant...vape it!

marcuss, i think you are missing the point. people typically water cure their harvest to wash off any impurities, if they had to spray chemicals on it to treat for pests, for example. or if a grower is real hard up for weed they might take a branch and water cure it so that they will have some smoke to toke while the rest of the harvest is drying and curing out.

after soaking the buds in water for 7 days you take them out, and to make absolutely sure that all of the water gets removed from the buds in a speedy manner, they are placed in a food dehydrator on low power. pull the nugs out and vape as normal.

aoz- the real difference will be in visual appearance and weight. the buds will not look as good as normal. they will be greyed out, and VERY lightweight. the hit from a water cured nug is most definitely smoother, most especially when smoked.

What about water curing? (merged)

It seems technically water curing your bud is the healthiest and best way to go, yet I never hear word of anyone doing it. I was just curious what you guys think about the practice vs air curing bud after harvest. Apparently the water removes the carcinogens leaving just THC and CBD/CBNs(and whatever else). So if you where to smoke it you would just be inhaling the actives plus the plant matter itself. But vaping it would be even more pure I guess. So why does no one do this if it apparently removes most carcinogens and tar, yet doesn't remove any potency? Is it because maybe it also takes the terpenes, leaving little taste? What do you guys think? Google it if you wanna see some guides and pics on it.

the water curing makes it more potent(well actually the same, but it removes more eight in stuff you don't want so per weightunit more of what you want)
but it has one big negative, it removes smell and taste
so especially for vsmokers it's gross(because then the only taste is combustionashtaste)

also it feels like ruining your weed, putting it underwater, so I think this psychological factor also plays a role

and it's a lot of hassle, you have to refresh the water every day for 7 days

so only beneficial when you ave limited room and time to dry(after the watercure it dries much quicker since the cellwands are ruptured)
or you're in a situation where it can't smell while drying, the watercuring is odorless and after that the smell is gone so the drying afterwards is too

I tried it one time with molded bud(well not really molded but from a plant with a lot of mold) but srewed up
I didn't refresh daily and left it in the water too long(longer then a week), it had a lot of white slime on it(byproduct of aenorobe bacteria or fungi) and when touching the bud it would dissolve into green slime mostly

*btw mods, great job on the merge :) on a topic with tokin so close :p Wish he still hung out on here! anyone know why he doesn't?

I find it really hard to believe that water curing your weed does not decrease the potency. surely a bunch of crystals break off and sink to the bottom of the bag. think about ice extraction hash making with the bags...

Because of this i have always been hesitant to try it.

I have thought about doing this to my abv though before turning it into QWISO or BHO. I haven't totally decided yet though I think on FC i heard QW is better than tane on ABV.

On a side note, I also think a food dehydrator is blasphemy on buds. WHERE DID THE TASTE AND SMELL GO???

you just mentioned a keyfactor of the hash-extraction: the ice
putting weed in the freezer before sieving for hash or using icecubes woth ice and water extraction makes the trichomes break off much easier

probably it will cause some loss, but so does drying, handling, keeping in a baggie etc

I should try it and see what i end up with i guess eh? make 2 batches of QWiso from maybe an oz of material (starting weight) each and then see the difference at the end :)

I have watercured a few grams recently, because it had some mold on it so I wanted to try everything instead of throw it away.
It was my first time, but after reading lots of guides and tips I decided that 1 week would be too much for me so I kept them only 4 full days (even if it was not suggested).
The final result is nice, it has lost a bit of smell and weight but the taste and potency still excellent.
I am sure that the aircure is better, but if you want to try I give you 2 important advices:
1. Handle the submerged/wet buds with care, to prevent any loss of trichomes and hairs
2. Drying process is the crucial part, that has the major impact on the final result. Put your buds in a towel and let it in front of a fan checking and moving them constantly for a homogeneous result.
When the buds look just like before you started, they are ready.
