Wake Up!

Thursdays at work is my most important day with a meeting I hold with all business and technical stakeholders within the organisation I work at (Government department so its pretty important shit) but I had a late night last night and an early start with my standard pre-work wake n bake. But with my meeting looming at 11am I was feeling pretty tired and washed out by 10am so i downed a 355ml (large can) of Red Bull and it made me feel heaps better. Defintly improved my alertness and quickened my thought patterns nicely.

This is the first time I have tried an energy drink in an attempt to counter a sleepy MJ comdown and it worked very nicely. 3 hours later I'm feeling as alert and awake as ever.

SOme ppl will be thinking that I shouldn't be getting tired on a vap stone ... but we are not talking a couch lock need to sleep buzz. Just a bit too relaxed and I was finding it hard to concentrate.

Anyone else got any good wake me up remedies?

Those little '5 hour energy' bottles seem to work. I think they have something like 5000% of your daily recommended vitamin B intake. :ninja:

Personally I'd probably vape some more or grab a tea.

Drugs aside... umm... maybe splash some cold water on your face or slap yourself. Sorry I'm not much help here. :p

IMO there's no substitue for a good 6.5 - 7 hours sleep... yet.

Absurdly enough, eating an apple first thing in the morning will wake you up more than having a cup of coffee. The natural sugars get your metabolism and digestive system working which in turn burns calories and wakes you up.

Maybe you could vape some Guarana, Ephdra or Ginseng... or a nice mix of all if you really needed to get up and going! :o

I've done Red Bull twice. First time, I was wired for sound. Second time, different day, different set and setting, I got very little noticable effect.

Years ago I would get fresh ginseng tea at a local ethnic market, it was a good morning eye popper. Tasted good too.

Bee's Pollen will rev you up naturally. Most pharmacies and health/nutrition joints should have it.

I make a coffee pot of green tea every morning at work. Keeps me going throughout the day. It's not true green tea but South American yerba mate. It has enough caffeine without having too much, and is loaded with healthy compounds. Cheap too-about $5 for a kilo bag.

From wikipedia:
In vivo and in vitro studies are showing yerba mate to exhibit significant cancer-fighting activity. Researchers at the University of Illinois (2005) found yerba mate to be "rich in phenolic constituents" and to "inhibit oral cancer cell proliferation" while it promoted proliferation of oral cancer cell lines at certain concentrations.

From reports of personal experience with mate, its physiological effects are similar to (yet distinct from) more widespread caffeinated beverages like coffee, tea, or guarana drinks. Users report a mental state of wakefulness, focus and alertness reminiscent of most stimulants, but often remark on mate's unique lack of the negative effects typically created by other such compounds, such as anxiety, diarrhea, "jitteriness", and heart palpitations.

Mate contains both caffeine and theobromine (which antagonize adenosine receptors) and reduces the body production of adenosine in the blood (prolongs half life of ATP, ADP, and AMP). These two processes will synergize to provide a much cleaner stimulation than a simple dose of caffeine (only blocking adenosine receptors).

Nice, max, I will defintely look for some of that.

It's amazing how many benificial properties are in natural foods. Shame that all the worst stuff has the most money behind it. Hard to compete with billion dollar budgets training us to drink Coke and eat McDonalds.

Here's a website I've found to be quite good for food matters, really detailed nutritional info. www.whfoods.org

Yeah fast food is a shocker ... and I eat a fair amount myself. I'm thankful my home town is a country wine village with no Macas, BKs, KFC etc. Have to drive 40 minutes to the nearest city for the fastfood chains ... so for my kids its a real treat not a regular occurrance.

I like cooking too and can whip up a bloody good feed. Which is lucjy actually coz my wife and the kitchen are not good friends :ninja:

I know what you guys mean. Fast food is the bane my existence at the moment.

I just had a Hungry Jacks (aka Burger King) open up 1 block away from me... all was well until they started giving out books of vouchers... 2 whoppers for $4 etc... Bastards!

Thanks for the health food site, vtac... for the bee pollen idea, p_d... and for the heads up on yerba mate, max. Much appreciated all.

Yeah, good food sites are always welcome, for info if nothing else. There was never a truer saying than 'you are what you eat'. A lot of our health problems are due to not getting enough good stuff and too much bad.

Here's the best place I've found to buy Yerba. Good selection and prices. I've tried different brands and found I like the Rosamonte. They have flavored too and some brands come both with and without stems. Some people like the flavor better with stems, but I can't tell any difference.

Another good site for Mate- http://www.gauchogourmet.com/index.html

That's where they get me too. The junk food I can resist at full price becomes irresistible when it's on sale.

Vtac, if those 5 hour energy things are a hge dosage of b12, id steer clear of using them regularly. Once in awhile is prly fine, but iv heard from a few people that ingestion large amounts of b12 on a regular basis is not good for you. Just hearsay though, so i may be way off the mark ;)

My favorite is chai. You can find it at most supermarkets now, or you can brew your own at home (its pretty easy, especially if you have a good spice rack and some good black tea). Chai will get you going, but without the jitters assoiciated with caffeine. Chai and bho.....mmmmm ya :D

Plain old Red Rose Tea (yeah, I know it's tea dust) is about as much kick as I need these days.

But for some more exotic stuff, these guys are great. www.holymtn.com
We bought some white tes for some special friends from these guys. Good service. And interesting info from these folks.

Oh, I absolutely agree. I didn't mean to make it sound like I recommended drinking one every day. I actually have only tried it once, it seemed like it gave me a boost, but I had been up for 30 hours so kind of hard to tell.

My friend was buying them for a while, I told him to take it easy. I haven't bought one since and don't plan to.

An article claiming the vitamin B does nothing to boost alertness. Probably all placebo.

A lot of B12 is OK, but too much B6 isn't, but as usual, the facts are in dispute.

"How much is too much?

Scientific studies have shown that B6 can be dangerous in very high doses. One study suggested that long term use of doses of 500 times the recommended daily level may cause damage to the nervous system. A second study found adverse effects in humans from ingesting a dose as low as 50mg a day, although there are question marks over the methods used in this investigation. The government plans to limit the sale of over-the-counter B6 to 10mg doses, with a doctor's prescription needed for larger amounts."

5 Hour Energy drinks are not a good idea. My mom is a registered nutritionist and she tells me nothing but bad things about those. Don't drink it, spare your intestines, stomach and body (and beware of the fire shits youll get :p )

I do like energy drinks, to be honest, I use to love redbull but now I am pretty sick of it, if you want to go with a tasty, but good for you energy drink try out the VITAMINENERGY's (Dragonfruit flavor is all I like). It taste good and doesnt have a bunch of nasty shit in it.

Have you tried organic Peruvian maca root powder? It has a highly stimulating effect.

i agree ... a workout first thing, before i realize i'm awake and start to make rationalizations for putting it off. my gym is in my basement: eliptical, nordictrack and bowflex. plus pushups, situps and chinups. 4 or 5 fruits and about an hour later 6 oz of nuts. every day. that's my end game until i fucking die. i want to be strong enough to pull the trigger, if need be.
