I just had the pleasure of trying out a purple days for a week. A friends unit. I have the Volcano Digit , Just started vaping 10/2010 for the first time. Long time heavy smoker...anywho.
Volcano digit:
-It would take Literally about 20 bowls of the PD to fill up one Volcano easy valve bowl.
-The volcano does a great job, even for a heavy user. Single person or party vape.
-The ease is pretty much a no brainer, and the reliabilty is there. no heat on draw-easy to draw- no curve
-I use about the same amount of herb as smoking.
-I can easily go through 7 grams in 24 hours with my volcano, using decent mids, dried out well-
of course that includes sitting the bag down mostly full a few times and forgetting about it.
-Some say the vapor stays good for hours? After 30 minutes, I just empty the bag and start over. no flavor after sitting. vapor flavor is obviously more airy because of bag, but flavor is still there.
-3 minute warm up- no biggie for home vape
-accurate, adjustable temp...obviously. I tend to set it at 415 f and leave it there
With PD:
-the flavor is there and is pretty rich
-You feel a little heat in mouth using stem only.
- learning curve to draw- a day or 2 should be plenty
-The efficiency is awesome. Have used 5 grams in 48 hours- that is a lot of bowls. 1/2 usage of volcano.
-I have been where I want to be the whole 48 hours, using decent mids, dried out well.
-30 min warmup no big deal since you are supposed to leave it plugged in.
-PD is pretty easy to use, can be used with bong- I havent tried this.....yet
-PD isnt what I would call a party vape, but if everyone has a low tolerance (they only usually take 2-3 hits off joint etc) the PD would still shine.
-PD probably uses less electricity in the long run than the volcano, even though it shuts off.(depending on your usage)
-Reliability and less parts to break.
-Short cord though
-no temp adjustment- I figure you can somewhat control this with your draw speed. its plenty rich for me at 12v as intended, but I warm stem before and after loading, before taking hit. (I'm no expert).
-due to more, smaller bowls, I think you find yourself using less with PD partly because while filling / vaping each bowl, the THC is absorbing. I guess what I am trying to say is ts like an "eating slowly and feeling comfortable and content vs. eating really fast and being really full and miserable." if that makes sense....
volcano is awesome to look at, so is PD. PD is 1/4 cost of volcano. They each stand out in the craftsmanship. PD easliy blends in to any decor, and is much more low key. I would rather take PD out of the house, than carry expensive volcano, even with its padded case. Much cheaper to replace PD, if stolen.
They each have their benefits and drawbacks.....and As every one here says 'to each his own vape".
verdict---I know my volcano is going on the back burner for a while...no pun intended
